8/11/18 update: the lights are still going strong. Initially I bought them to put in front of the house for Christmas but they were so pretty that the spring after I bought them, I strung them across the back patio. They have been there ever since and I have had no problems. Everything still works great. Have never replaced the battery or had any lights burn out. They are in the hot sun in the summer and have been through winter snow and ice, rain, wind storms, etc. Over time the plastic pieces that hold each little light have faded to a light grey color on the side that faces the sun but it hasn't affected the performance any and they sit in direct sun for 8 hours a day, so it doesn't come as a surprise. The lights stay on for a long time too. I've never been outside late enough to notice when they turned off, so they must run for at least 4-5 hours after dark. I'm really impressed at how well they have held up! ************ These lights are great. They shine brightest after a really sunny day but I find they still turn on when the whole day was cloudy and overcast, they just dont get as bright. I also have them on the west side of the house where the solar cell is in the shadow of the house until late afternoon. So if they work this well for me in less than optimal conditions, I imagine they'd be even better if you have a sunnier spot. So far they've been through a few ice/snow storms (the only time they didn't turn on at all, the solar panel was buried under a snow bank all day) and a really bad rain/windstorm and they seem fine, though I've only had them for about a month, so I can't speak to how they'll hold up long term. They seem sturdy though so I'm optimistic. Would definitely recommend. ... show more

Started buying these lights for the bushes and trees in my yard years ago and they take a Northeastern weather beating every season and still work through it all. My first strings from three years ago are slightly fading but still going. Wipe off the solar panel (which I barely have) now and then and you could probably get more mileage. Literally just found a buried unit in the front that’s been under overgrowth for at least nine months. Set it upright and boom, like it never happened at sunset. I’d rate 5 stars if they weren’t so darn tangly. I like to wrap my branches a certain way so that gets annoying. If you’re just placing on a fence or less involved object, you’ll have less stress.     • Acceptable lights but many have display mode issue
A few things I world have liked to know before purchasing these lights: Appearance: light output, while not a cool-white, is nothing near the small warm-white lights typically used for Christmas trees in terms of color or brightness. They look okay at night but are fairly dim compared to conventional non-LED christmas lights, even after fully charging (i charged for 3 consecutive sunny days in full sun and without operating). Functionality: push button controls are simple and offer a lot of different display modes. One button is an on/off toggle and a second cycles through the light display modes which include a couple blinking settings, gradually dimming, alternating flashes, etc. and constant-on. If "on," the solar panel senses ambient light and turns on the lights once it gets dark, and back off when it's light out, which is great for outdoor use. I'm not sure if there is a setting to have lights activated during daylight, however you could cover the photocell to activate. One major issue however is that the display mode on our set reverts back to a 2-speed flashing mode each night. I'm not sure of the cause but this issue makes the automatic functionality useless for us as we don't prefer the mode it's reverting to and we need to go out and change the mode to the one we like...pretty disappointing. Battery life: so far, the battery powers lights for at least 6 hrs or more (probably greater but we're not awake to check) even after a few very overcast consecutive days, though lights dont seem to be displaying at full brightness. This seems reasonable as i assume they hadn't been fully charging each day. While we e hoping for warmer and brighter lights, they do look okay. However, the issue with reverting display mode makes these a dissapointment for us. If we could fix that issue, I would rate 3 to 4, though longevity and resistance to elements are still unknown. ... show more

    • Works great when its not snowing!

I used these to light up my porch for Christmas since I do not have an outside outlet. I have to say, its the middle of February and they are still going strong. I told my husband we had to leave the lights up to test them, when I was really just to lazy to go take them down. I will say the only issue I have has to do with the snow. I put the solar charging panel staked into the ground and it has done a great job of keeping the light going. The problem comes when it snows, and I am not talking a few flakes here. Balls deep with 2 ft of snow on the ground the charger got buried so the lights went out. Next time I would place the charger in a more convenient area so I could clean it off daily, but then again it is February and the lights are still up! ... show more

They aren't very bright, but they have a lot of different functions. I use them inside my camper and I have limited plugs so the solar function is great to stick in the window and they come on automatically when the sun goes down but if you don't want them on it has an off button too which is nice.

Love the lights easy to install and functions well. The only issue is they are not as bright as I’d like them. Dull and the light doesn’t project far.
