This worked really well for me. I used it to cycle water from my swimming pool through a standard length garden hose sitting in the sun to warm the water up during the colder Florida months. The hose and pump were 12-18 inches above the pool water line on level ground. The only slight issue I had was that if I pulled the outflow hose out of the water between usage, I would have to prime the pump again. So, I just left both hoses in the pool as often as I wanted to avoid this. Right now (3rd) year I am troubleshooting a water flow issue. I haven't found my manual yet. Once I figure this out, I will see if I can edit this review or create a new one with any solutions I find. MY BAD, THE BRUSHES WERE WORN OUT. I REPLACED THEM WITH ADDITIONAL PARTS, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. I COULDN'T FIND THIS SAME ONE AGAIN, SO I BOUGHT ANOTHER BRAND THAT LOOKED THE SAME (RED ONE). HAPPY WITH THIS ONE TOO. ... show more

It's a cheap pump for sure but I pumped 85 gallons of polypropylene glycol into my outdoor boiler with it and it didn't quit. That stuff is like honey and it slowed the pump to a crawl and it got hot. I wrapped the pump in ziplock bags of ice and kept going. It got the job done. Pumps water like a champ but the poly is tough duty. ... show more

I selected this pump, which was extremely similar to many other pumps on Amazon because it had a 'Max Height' of 39 feet instead of 3 feet (see picture of box). However, if you read the directions inside the manual, it specifically states that it is only good for 3 feet! The directions also state to not let the hose become kinked, yet the hose included in the box was very cheap and severely kinked and proved useless (see picture of hose). I tried using it and getting the kinks out but ended up throwing it out and cutting off a length of old hose I had. The directions also state to not let the pump run dry. I was very careful to prime the pump and used it continuously for about 30 minutes but it became so hot that I had to turn it off and let it cool down before continuing. Finally, I ran it for another 15 minutes and it became so hot that I figured it would burn up when I was done and wouldn't be able to use it again. Interestingly enough, when I stopped the pump a second time it started to smoke! Read the warnings carefully, it says to not use with flammable liquids for a very good reason. It does come with a spare impeller and spare bushings for the motor so I'll be able to use it one more time after I rebuild it. If I had known it was going to smoke when turning it off I would have tried to take a video. Maybe I'll be able to do that with my second and probably last use. ... show more

I read other reviews, and almost didn't buy it for the lone star writers, but I took a chance on it for the price. It works flawlessly! For those that said it overheated, I'd bet that you are either not priming it, or you are using that kinky little hose that comes with it for the inflow. It is a little noisy, but I don't care. My boat is not sinking anymore! And FYI, it makes for an awesome bilge pump for a leaky pontoon boat. Advice: Get yourself an old straight garden hose, cut it to the needed length, and use that for the inflow. ... show more

Update: I've used this thing for 2 seasons now which is at least 40 hours (probably much more) and it's still going strong. Still haven't needed the included extra impeller and brush kit. I'd buy it again. Update #2: I spoke too soon. Stopped pumping on season 3. Motor worked but the pump stopped working. Got louder as it aged. I took it apart and didn't see any reason for the issue. Toward the end of its life it pumped less and less. Pumps may be one of those things where you truly get what you pay for. I've had $80 pumps with a similar lifespan Original review: I can't speak about longevity but it does what it says. I checked mine and it averaged 300gph. It's a tad noisy but I think that is the nature of this type of pump. It comes with everything needed except the discharge hose. Extras include a replacement impeller and brush set for the motor. At first use it wouldn't seem like a product that will last for years but it may surprise me. I just use it to keep the swimming pool level below our mesh cover during the winter. It will probably see 12 hours of pretty solid use this winter so hopefully if it breaks it will be during the warranty period. ... show more

    • I needed to empty my waterbed!

I still sleep on a waterbed, and have for 35 years. When it's time for a new location or a new mattress, etc., I have always used the fill and drain kits that come nearly free with waterbed supplies. Now my mattress had sprung a leak and I decided to go to a new size. After 35 years, though, I find I am 35 years older that I was when I started with these things, and the idea of lugging a not-very-empty and VERRRY heavy old bladder to the dump was terrifying. I bought this pump, swallowed my terror of electrocuting myself (or worse? Does that even happen?), hooked it up according to a genius video I found, and within twenty minutes I had a very manageable empty (almost perfectly) mattress! I now have my NEW waterbed all set up and am ready for whatever happens to it in the NEXT 35 years. This was really easy, embarrassingly easy, amusingly easy.... gosh, have they had these pumps around all this time and I didn't even know????! ... show more
