  • Beautiful Machine, Poor Mechanics
Hello! My dad passed away recently and I found myself inheriting his vinyl collection. The reason I gravitated toward the Victrola brand was because he also had an original model antique Victrola (with a hand crank, not a plug!), but that was much too big to bring into my apartment at college. I also had recently been looking to upgrade from my tiny waterproof bluetooth speaker to something a bit more substantial, so I ordered this. Overall, it's treated me well, but I had a couple issues. Let's get into it! Appearance: 4/5 This is a beautiful machine! I got mine in espresso to match my furniture, and I couldn't be more happy with the knobs, lights, or display. Everything from the outside looks very clean and high quality, as long as you don't look too close. The mechanics on the inside (the knobs and switches for vinyl) are plastic and feel a little cheap. Additionally, the wood is only paneling, and underneath the plastic faux grain is a lightweight wood composite. I was kinda bummed when I opened the box, but overall, not bad! Sound: 4/5 When playing anything, vinyl or otherwise, the speakers produce a warm, rich treble and patchy bass. As an R&B lover, I was slightly disappointed with that. However, the speakers pack a lot of volume. The sound this machine produces fills my apartment at quarter volume, which impressed me a lot for the size. The bass issue could easily be combatted by getting a set of bookshelf speakers, which I might do when I move somewhere bigger. Mechanics: 3/5 Earlier I touched on the fact that the mechanics on the inside of the machine seemed cheap. At first, the machine worked like a dream and played all my dad's old records just as well as I remembered them. After I'd had it for a couple weeks with daily use, I purchased a few new vinyls. When I played a new one, after a few seconds, the arm started to skip around! I had no idea what was going on, but after some googling, I found that the arm needed to be balanced (set to a heavier weight so that the needle would sit in the grooves and not jump around), however, this machine doesn't allow the player to balance the tone arm. After some more googling, I found out that many audiophiles put Victrola in the Crosley category of poor quality and cheap mechanics. Devastated that I'd spent so much money on a subpar record player and had already thrown away the box and receipts, I did what any poor college student would do: stacked two nickels on the arm. It played the new record like a dream! I did end up covering the nickels in some black electrical tape so they wouldn't stick out against the other parts. I'm still very sad I spent so much money on this for it to have such a big design flaw, but fortunately, it had a simple and quick fix. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this product. I love the way it looks and I love playing my dad's old records. I wish I'd done more research instead of just buying what looked cool and shiny, but that's what I get for jumping on the vinyl bandwagon so last-minute. TO SUMMARIZE: If you're young and cheap and want a record player (and have some nickels handy), buy this! If you're an experience audiophile, keep looking. ... show more

  • I’m obsessed! Love this retro Victrola
Sooo I never write reviews, but today I’m gonna. I eyeballed this Victrola at a local furniture store and had it on my mind since. After some time I bit the bullet and bought it… and I’m simply in love! I’ve always wanted a record player with built in speakers, as I only had one that needed a receiver and additional speakers. This is great for if I want it in my bedroom, or living room. And the sound quality coming from its speaker is perfect. Yeah yeah, with a receiver it can be better, but for what it’s worth- being a portable turntable, it sounds fantastic. Not to mention my old CD players are out dated, And I don’t own a cassette player- this little guy has it all. After playing some brand new records, I noticed it does occasionally do minor skips compared to my Denon brand turntable, but honestly I have so much cat hair flying around I think that’s causing it. But regardless- I don’t mind. I’m in love. And I love how the gold detailing lights up for the FM dial even if you aren’t listening to the radio. It’s beautiful and I’m going to treasure it! 💕 ... show more

  • Amazing quality
For what it's worth this was a gift and the people that recieved it loved it and couldn't wait to start jamming out on it. Can easily be connected via aux cord to additional speakers, that if which they had some bose shelf speakers. Even without the additional speakers its pretty loud, now if you're an audiophile itll sound like crap because of expectations, although your expectations from something like this if you're looking for top notch sound should be elsewhere. Overall a great product with man options with cassettes cd aux radio bluetooth and vinyl. ... show more

  • It's pretty cool - but it works way better after I upgraded the head and needle
The machine looks awesome - but it was having issues with brand new records. There isn't much of a counterweight on the arm - so that might be part of the issue. It doesn't appear adjustable either. I tried a diamond needle replacement - but that didn't work. So I decided to change the head and needle to a better quality one... it improved the player immensely. If you're going to grab one of these and plan to do vinyl - get one of these: Banpa Turntable Cartridge Replacement BP2ATC https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071WMFGHL/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and then find yourself an Electro-Voice 2428DS. I had to source that on Ebay. You won't regret the upgrade. Other than that - the Blu-Tooth works awesome. Everything seems good to go. ... show more

  • Really cute mid century style modern audio player!
I wanted an affordable unit that would play records that looked really cool and went with my decor. I was so happy to find this. As a bonus, it has a radio tuner, cassette tape player (I can play my mix tapes from the 80’s and 90’s! Yay!!), a CD player, and lights up like an mid century radio but with modern led lights! It’s so adorable. It has pretty decent sound on its own but if you like better sound, you have the option to attach additional speakers. I believe it will act as a Bluetooth speaker as well so you can stream music to it. (I wish it would stream outward to Bluetooth speakers!). I love it and highly recommend it if you want a really cute mid century style audio player with modern technology! ... show more
