I was iffy about doing this to my car, but I decided I’m on vacation so I might as well get it done because I’m not paying somebody for something I can do to my car myself no matter what it is if I can do it I’m doing it I’ll buy the parts and do it myself and I love the results Great color. The paint quality is amazing. It looks good. It worked very well. Like any painter will tell you, prep is 90% of the work. Your parts gotta be clean clean clean. Remove the rust, remove the grease, as clean as you can get it. Degreaser, Brake Cleaner, Acetone, throw all you've got at it!! Since most calipers and parts are cast iron, you gotta get down in those crevasses and divots. Scuff with a Scotch-brite and wipe down again. My final wipe was done with a 23% IPA solution to get any residue from the cleaners off. So I did all of that as best I could, but it wasn't perfect and I have some fisheyes in places, but they look great from 5 feet away! Before I started painting I turned my oven on at 200 degrees. I painted the parts in 3 coats, 10 minutes between. After the painting was done I hung them in the oven for 2 hours (directions say 1) then turned the oven off and let everything cool. After an hour they were cool enough to handle. And I'm really impressed with the hardness of the paint and I think it's going to be very durable. Pealing off the tape I could tell how hard the paint got and it was kind of like a shell.

At under ten bucks on average, the VHT SP731 Real Red Brake Caliper paint can-11 oz. is well worth every penny. It seems to have more paint than most normal paint cans. This single paint can, can be used to spray 4 big truck-sized calipers. Specifically designed for detailing in breaks, drums, calipers and rotor customization. Designed to withstand immense heating. It can endure over 900 degrees when cured properly. Caliper covers are good customizations but they are not pocket friendly and they may not fit the car’s rims properly. With this paint though, an affordable customized makeover is possible. Even with bad roads and harsh weather conditions, this paint will not peel, rust or even crack. Using the real red brake caliper is as easy as applying it and waiting for it dry. Also, the paint doesn’t drip. Of course before applying, one ought to clean the calipers very well before applying the paint. Dirt, sand, dust, grease, oil, grime, and other junk can obviously cause the paint to not stick. Brakes take a ton of abuse being under the car, so you may consider a thourough degreaser. Other than that, there are no significant caveats attached to it. The effective performance of this paint of course applies to correct curing. The instructions for curing have been provided by the manufacturer on the package box. It is though worth noting that curing happens during the normal braking operation temperatures (around 200 degrees Fahrenheit) or if the braking operation is not possible during the period of curing, then pre-heating the parts is also viable. To get to the 200 degrees Fahrenheit, one is required to drive the car at a pretty high speed after painting and then braking hard. This curing aids in chemical resistance against fluids like fuel and brake fluids. If you don’t cure the paint then bad things will happen. One of the bad things that will happen is that the paint will melt leaving you with a messy surface. To achieve a glossy red color, you can use the red brake caliper paint with a primer and a clear coat. VHT also stocks primers and clear coats. The caliper paint can also be used on motorcycle wheels. The wheels will look really good. The paint has a strong odor and it may irritate your nose and throat. Everything should work fine and as expected if all the instructions are followed. You will also have to tape the caliper’s surroundings. But all in all, the search for the perfect brake caliper paint should start and end with this paint as it truly does what it says it will do. This paint is also evidently superior to other caliper paints like Rustoleum and Duplicolor.

This review is for the Gloss Clear (wish amazon would state this automatically for these multi item vendor pages). Edit: Apparently I have only one option of one review since they were from the same page. Seriously amazon, fix this for your consumers! One star dropped because no where on the clear can does it say clear. If you lose your cap then you have to test it if you also bought other VHT spray paints and have them capless nearby. The clear scared me more than I ever want to be scared again. Brand new 3k brake package and go to put a clear coat on and I got a milky look on a relatively light coat. I was tempted to grab my brake cleaner and scrub the days work I had on them. I'm glad I waited. At first I was letting them air dry. I need to wait for spacers so due to that there's no rush. I then did a test (1st pic). I sprayed one pad clip which gets milky easily. The paint under that is a dark orange (not the gold in the other two pics). I put it on a towel on the dashboard of my truck and let the sun bake it for a few minutes. I live in southwest FL so it was baked quick. The glaze was great and the milky look was gone. Some things don't get a good gloss layer, even with many heavy coats. Pics one and two are shinier than they appear. Gold really has a hard time showing that in pictures. The gold however took 5 - 7 coats before I was barely happy with the results. The VHT Red is more glossy as is without clear than the Gold is with my end result. My process was much more than most have stated, but due to trying to get the best and be sure it was cured. 1st I primed two coats. 2nd I painted 4 coats. 1st light and others thereafter were medium and heavy with no runs. 3rd I was going to wait it out, so they sat for four days. 4th My decals came in (I used an Infiniti set, akebono set for the a and underline, and a custom set I ordered online). I'm a ham and it's my hard work and paycheck so decided to get some laughs. 5th I sprayed 5 - 7 coats of this clear. After each coat I put them on a towel in my truck and sun baked them. They got almost too hot to handle and I have very calloused hands. 6th After work I took them home and baked them at 200° for 1 hour. 7th I smiled and am writing this review as they lay next to me so I can appreciate the tender loving care I put into this! The 4th pic is the gold without the clear. The room I'm in is incredible hot and humid. I had to buy a 3rd can because the end of the first started spraying what seemed like sand and was MUCH darker than the rest. 2nd can did the same only half way through. I then researched it and it was actually said to be something that happens in very low humidity so I did the 3rd outside in the shade with no issue. My own learning experience so won't knock off stars for my conditions during the painting. You can see the slight grittyness under the last two coats. At this point having stripped them from a past color change and being near the end of my third can I was happy to move forward. Best of luck with your project. Hope this helps.
