Nice and functional smart lock

Update after 3 years. The screen did shatter from facing the sun half day (see photo). My door faces west, and the FL sunshine was just too much for this smart lock. For this reason I went from 5 stars to 4. I still liked the lock… but was forced to replace it since I could no longer see the numbers on the front screen. Original review: I like the look and feeling, and the installation process was relatively easy (after carefully reading the instructions). The app allows you to setup multiple passcodes, and they can be permanent (which only means they can be used indefinitely until you delete them), they can be temporary (where you set the date and time ranges) or they can be for one-time use (use it once and then it will expire immediately). It can create random passcodes, but they can be easily changed to any code you like, from 4 to 9 digits in length. You also have the choice to generate custom passcodes, where you set your own code from the get go and the valid time period (or make it permanent). Each passcode can be named so you know who it was assigned to. I also love the auto-lock feature, which can be set from 5 seconds to 900 seconds (15 minutes), or you can also disable the auto-lock function if you like. It even has a physical button on the lock to disable the codes (in that case only the administrator or people with the physical keys can open the door). This is ideal when you want privacy and don't want your mother in law to come in without knocking first ;) The only thing I don't like is that in order to manage the lock from another location (ex: if you are out of town), you will need to use a gateway, which is sold separately. Keypad is disappointing

On a positive note, I was able to install the lock without much trouble and it functions reasonably well with the app. The HUGE negative is that the keypad is extremely difficult to use. First, is the fact that you have to press on it for it to illuminate. It is likely you will also press a number trying to simply get it to light up, which means you've already entered a number. SO, the number you think you're entering will be wrong and the lock won't open. The documentation on passcodes is horrible. It doesn't tell you to enter the "#" key after the number. Or the fact that the "*" key clears the entries, allowing you to correct the mistake. EDIT: I upgraded my rating from two to three stars because once the quirks of the keypad were understood, the lock works as it should. I also purchased the G2 gateway and setting up the lock with Alexa went fairly smoothly. Based on other reviews, we'll wait and see how long the lock works. If there's a problem down the road, I'll be back here with another edit. ... show more

We purchased this Veise Smart Lock To replace another make that was discontinued and parts were not available from the manufacturer anymore. Right out of the box the installation was as simple as could be. Using the template provided we found the holes in the door we exact with the exception of a 3/8” hole needed for the top mount. We marked the hole and drilled a 3/16” pilot hole followed by a 3/8” which we drilled from each side of the door to eliminate any tear out. Installed the deadbolt assembly & striker plate first followed by the top mount stud on the exterior lock assembly. The rest was simple filling the instructions to install the backing plate inside with the exterior latch making sure the wire was located correctly under the deadbolt assembly. Finished by installing the circuit board assembly on the interior, connecting the wiring and installing the batteries. The gaskets seal the lock assembly to the door very well. With the app installed on my phone the setup was simple. Added a master code and a separate code for my neighbor that watches our home when we are away. Programming the fob’s was simple using the app on my phone to setup. All in all, I’m very happy with this keyless lock. With the added features, that were not available on the old keyless lock, we are now able to unlock the door from our car when parked in the driveway. This is great especially when we have groceries to carry in. My wife loves the fob option so she can unlock without using a code. We highly recommend this well made lock. We didn’t purchase the remote addition but the Bluetooth works fine from anywhere in our home so we can lock or unlock using the app. ... show more
