Pump works great but the inlet and outlet fittings for pvc are not in inches. It’s in mm. Had to finally use jb weld pvc epoxy to make it hold. Afterwards everything went smoothly.

This is an expensive pump, but it is a good value if you need the capacity and features it offers. I have an 'on ground' pool, which is kind of a hybrid. The excavation is only about 2 feet, and a stainless steel frame is used to to extend the pool above ground by a couple of feet. I opted to have the poll expanded by digging in the deep end to 6.5', making it more of an inground pool, but at about a third of the expense. The pool itself is 15' x 32' so roughly 16,000 gallons of water. A 1HP pump is probably fine, and it came with a 1.5HP pump. So 3HP is certainly into overkill territory, but that also means I can run the pump at a lower speed, meaning it will run cheaper, and last much longer, so there is some benefit. My original pump runs on 110v, so I had to upgrade the breaker to a 220v 20 amp breaker, and run 12 gauge wire in place of the 14 gauge that was originally installed, but that wasn't too difficult. I added a local on/off switch for the pump and mounted it where it would be accessible from the pool deck. Installing the pump itself was simple. It came with enough connectors/adapters that I didn't have to do much else to get the system running again. I did take the time to move one of the isolation valves for the return jets, which the original installation team set up under the deck for some odd reason. The entire installation process took less than a day. Here is where this pump really begins to shine. It is programmable for run time, run speed, and is versatile enough that I can set it up for the swimming season, then swith to the off season in just a few minutes. This alone is worth the increased cost of the pump since I can save money by reducing run time and flow rate without sacrificing water quality. Given that the pump is overpowered, I run it most of the time on the lowest setting, bumping it up when the grndkids come swimming, or it's time to vacuum. And since it is running on a low setting, it's virtually silent, which is a nice change. I've had it installed for 2 months now, without any problems to note. This was a near drop-in replacement for my OEM pump. The footprint is larger than my previous single speed pump, and it's definitely heavier than my previous single speed pump. But the plumbing hookups were approximately the same layout. To be clear, this is a 220v (hard wired) and 1.8 HP pump. The output power is very close to my previous 2HP pump in terms of power and water flow. It might also make a nice upgrade from a 1.5 HP pump. They call this a variable speed but it's really a 4-speed. I cannot select any speed I wish, I am limited to the 4 preset speeds. The timer also has limitations, there are presets to choose from. While it's not as versatile as some other pumps, these limited settings do make it very functional and easy to use. The display is large and easy for me to see and read, and the buttons are also easy to use. It looks and feels durable to me, I did not see any quality problems. I did not see any initial leaks. I will update if I find leaks. It is very quiet, I cannot even hear it from more than 10 feet away. The leaf basket on this is huge. It's the largest one I've ever seen on a pump. However I tend to use filter socks on my skimmers to catch leaves and debris before it ends up in the pump. But the huge clear window makes it easy to check the pump's filter basket to know if it needs emptying. It has a standard blowout hole, as expected. It self primes very well. I am currently remodeling a pool that sat abandoned and covered for nearly a decade and everything needs to be replaced but in phase one the plan is just replace things and get it emptied and running so it's no longer a swamp so we can plan the next steps. Got this pump as a cheaper option to the others and I am wonderfully pleased with how great this little pump is. It was really easy to hook up although the instructions it came with were not helpful I was able to find info online and it is pretty intuitive. The pump its really quiet, I mean really surprisingly quite so much so that we cant hear it from the pool area. Everything connected well and seals tightly so that we have had no issues with leaks. It self primes and has adjustable presets and timers so you can program the pump to turn on and off at specific times and you can control the speed at specific times as well. Overall this is a really nice pump that is not much different from the name brands. The only thing that is really noticeable is that this unit is not as heavy as the name brands so the motor might not last as long but it seems to be running solid so far with no issues. ... show more
