  • 8 months later- Still love it.
I've had this on my 2010 flhtcui for 8 months now, and Im very pleased with it. The dual cameras are crisp and clear and work well at night as well. The wide angle lenses are great coverage without losing detail. It was easy to set up, & instructions were clear. The phone app works well, and the transfer speed is very decent. (Better than my cam system I replaced). In no means slow. On ignition the voice feedback is nice reassuring its has started and has begun recording. I had no problems with the cable length, even on my big bagger. The GPS on it works well I've had zero problems with it. I would definitely suggest getting it, to CYA. It was definitely worth the price. ... show more

  • Impress Dashcam - I love having video of what goes on around me!
I recently installed the Vantrue F1 on my Triumph Tiger 900 Aragón. One of my biggest concerns is having an incident with another driver and having no evidence of what actually happened. Having front and rear cameras recording continuously gives me a lot of peace of mind, and that was the primary reason I wanted a motorcycle dash cam. First impressions: Everything about the F1 feels high quality. The components feel solid and well made, and the packaging is neat, secure, and very well protected. Installation: My installation took about 2½ hours, but most of that was because I took my time hiding the wiring. It could easily be done faster. The installation itself isn't difficult, but there are a few things worth considering. Keep wiring away from hot exhaust components, and mount the cameras somewhere that doesn't vibrate. I initially mounted the front camera on the front fender above the wheel and may eventually move it because there is a little vibration. I initially planned to mount the rear camera near the brake light but discovered that the license-plate light was shining directly into the camera. I found a better location instead. The cameras have very strong adhesive backing, but I chose to screw mine in for extra security. I'd recommend using the adhesive initially, making sure you're happy with the location, and then permanently securing it. The electrical installation requires a ground, constant 12V power, and an ignition-switched source. Check the specifics for your motorcycle because some newer bikes, including my Tiger, don't have traditional switched fuses and instead use ECU-controlled circuits. Video quality: The front camera is 4K and the rear is 1080p. The Sony STARVIS cameras produce excellent video, including at night. I initially planned to run the front in 4K, but a three-minute 4K HDR clip can be around 1.7 GB. After seeing how good the 1080p footage looks, I'm going to run both cameras at 1080p and save a considerable amount of storage. The app is very easy to use, and changing camera settings and viewing/downloading footage is straightforward. There are a couple of settings I'm still researching, but overall I've found the app intuitive. I also really like the parking mode and G-sensor. The system can monitor the motorcycle while parked and automatically record if it detects an impact. That's a great feature for a motorcycle that may be left unattended. The wired remote and voice prompts are also very convenient, allowing you to control and interact with the system without reaching for your phone. So far, I'm extremely pleased with the F1. The installation came out clean, the hardware feels excellent, and the video quality is impressive. I'm especially looking forward to putting it through its paces on my upcoming adventure-bike tour of southwestern Colorado. Based on what I've seen so far, This is a very worthwhile addition to my Tiger. ... show more

  • Great camera system.. excellent customer support
After a simple but involved installation; removing fairings, routing/securing cables and then testing, testing & more testing, it was obvious the unit I received was defective... in that it would not shut off. Rather, it would shut off as designed but would start right back up, regardless of key on/off or yellow wire powered or not. I thought maybe the red/yellow wires were swapped or mismarked as I read affected some units, but that wasn't the case. I contacted support and after a couple back/forth communications and convincing them it was the 'you, not me', they said they would replace it, and I only needed to return the main unit & cameras! I was super relieved I didn't have to tear-down to uninstall the cables, but I was still bummed I thinking it'd be several weeks before I could use it. Once I provided them the tracking number, they quickly shipped a new (unopened retail-box) unit that arrived in only a couple days. Plugged-in the new head unit and installed cameras in my mounts and I was in biz! It worked as expected and am happy with the performance. The hardware seems to be of high quality, there's ample cable length to accommodate any configuration.... and the software/app works ok, but has room for improvement- which I assume will be coming. I've a couple 'wishes' and recommendations to improve: - I can see wanting to pull the card to download videos on pc. I understand the interior of the head unit needs to be sealed to the environment, but wow, the card cover screws are too tiny, too easy to lose and best only be removed on a bench. It'd be great if the card-cover were held in place by compression.. say, a spring clip in the external housing/mount, applying force as the unit is slid in. Or something, anything to allow easily accessing the card. - I requested they add a 'disable auto-record' toggle in the app settings. - Add sort/view options in videos/albums in app; ability to sort by size and to change to 'details view' showing only filename, as it contains the timestamp and which cam; A or B. - (Update) - PLEASE, MOD THE FIRMWARE TO ENABLE THE UNIT TO STAY ON AFTER KEY IS OFF, AS LONG AS IT'S CONNECTED TO THE MOBILE APP 🙏 To avoid having to keep the ignition on during long downloads, and for testing or just wanting to record with engine off. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend anyone who's considering to go for it! ... show more

  • Know What Your Needs Are for the Camera
Ease of installation: Depends upon how meticulous you are; the installation can vary from easy to complex. If you’re extremely particular about the installation, you can make the process more difficult than it needs to be. If you have an old bike where appearances are negligible, the process can be extremely easy. I think I may have made matters harder than it needed to be but I’m happy with the finish installation. As you know, bike design variations are many. I wanted my front camera location to be discrete with a decent field of view – I found such a place & needed to determine the best way to mount it. The rear camera required a different approach, I had to fabricate a bracket (as best I could manage) and install both cameras with some forethought employed. This was me making the installation harder than it needed to be. Given a different brand of bike, my method of installation would have varied accordingly. Picture Quality: I am very happy with the picture quality. Before purchasing, I looked at several different vendors’ product, watched the online You-tube videos, etc., with a burning question in mind – “Is 30 fps fast enough to give me a good video rendition of what it’s capturing at 45, 55, or 70 mph? When you think of an action camera, they have frame rates that exceeds 30 fps – and a photographer knows that the higher speed frame rates allow for pictures that will not be blurred – to my surprise, the software employed with this dashcam makes for taking good quality pics at 30fps, even when doing 70 mph. That was very important for my needs! Camera Quality: I’m going to say, excellent! To clarify, I am speaking of the camera lens – it’s small, think about 1” dia. x 1-1/4” long. I own an action camera & it’s just a little bigger (3x, maybe) than the Vantrue F1 camera lens. There are several differences between the two. Regarding power, I don’t have to change a battery after 90 min or so as I do with the action camera. When I turn my bike on, the camera automatically turns on & start recording. If I ride 6 or more continuous hours, the camera will record video accordingly – how much video you get to keep w/o it being over written depends upon the SD card size. My one disappointment is the speed at which it x-fers data via Wi-Fi, it’s slow. Even so, I feel it will serve the purpose for which I bought it, satisfactorily! If saving a day trip video, plan on removing the SD card for a computer download, the volume of data can be quite large. I’m still learning about the product and its functions, so I can’t comment on the other features at this time. Customer Service: I am very pleased with the Customer Service that I have received. We had difficult start & I believe that was due to differences in thought processes. I was being meticulous and seeking a spare part, my description of that part was confusing to describe but once made clear, they were extremely helpful in getting me what I needed. ... show more

  • Worked for 2 days then failed. Wouldn't power up and had to return
I thought I was buying one of the best option in dash cams for my motorcycle. It's an intensive installation, but I'm a mechanic so I can handle it. Got everything wired and tested. Downloaded the app and made some videos. Worked really nicely. Good image quality and audio. Nice app too. I was doing some other work on my bike so I was cycling my key switch once in a while. And I noticed this unit wasn't powering on like it did. Went through some troubleshooting, everything was powered correctly. Determined the unit was faulty. Never again, will I hardwire in a dash camera like this one. Get a Go Pro or some thing self contained so when it fails (which it will) you don't burn hours of your life on the install/removal. ... show more

  • ordered 9/3/24
Ordered the Front & Rear cam setup for my 24 Indian Chieftain DarkHorse on 9/3 after having a run in with a idiot road rager trying to run me over. I went ahead and spent ythe $400 on the cam system because after what happened I wanted to know I had the best possible camera I could get and this did not dissapoint. The clarity of the camera is excellent and the vibration correction is amazingly steady. I am very happy with my purchase and not at all disappointed in spending as much as I did on it. Installation was pretty straight forward, the most difficult part of the install was trying to determine how I wanted to mount it on my brand new bike so that it did not stick out like a sore thumb. I used zip ties to the outside of the rear fender and chased the antenna hole so that it was all hidden behind the saddlebags, unfortunately when I took my bike back to the dealership to have the accessory trunk installed that I ordered when I bought the bike, they cut the zip ties and did not put them back in place. during a 400 mile road trip, the rear camera cable laid across the exhaust and melted through causing the rear camera to stop working. I contacted Vantrue through amazon and they quickly offered to send me a replacement rear camera cable after verifying my order details. The customer service is on point for this company and I am happy to give them a good review here. ... show more

  • True 4k
Let me see where to start first its a very nice sleek setup the cable length is more then enough for you to hide everything best part no drain on bike even with park mode on it was still light to med on the battery take your time to mount everything as its worth it you can park your bike anywhere and not worry. You can also turn of parking mode which is nice for if you’re just riding and going back the garage i will up load a video as the play back is very smooth I have a 512 gig sd card which it pays to get a great quality sd card it comes with an16 gig but it works great with the 512 gig i have had it on my bike for a few months now and every thing is holding up perfectly will add a up date with video also has a very nice feature that gives you control to quickly snap a picture or turn the mic on or off. The company is by far one of the best i have talked with as i broke my brackets due to my own fault and they are such stand up company they helped me so i can fix my mistakes like i said take your time. I choose a poor spot to mount and broke my bracket main bolt up as if you take you time you will notice they give you a handle bar mount for front to use mine is under my forks- the rear i stupidly tried to use my seat bolt by making the original screw mount hole bigger that is where i messed up if you take your time you will notice spots to hide and have them see everything and not have to mess with bolt holes which i made the mistake of doing. The field of view is really good on both front and rear camera and the mic just does not pic up wind and has great sound quality. And overall is the best value for the money. ... show more
