This is the baby brother of our popular Top Draw handgun safe. It features the SIMPLEX mechanical five push button, easily programmable lock that requires no batteries. The Compact pistol safe is ideal for transporting a single firearm or valuables. The Compact pistol safe is nicely finished in a textured semi- gloss black powder coating, accented with a silver V-Line logo and brushed stainless lock faceplate. The foam interior helps protect your gun and/or valuables while in transit. The Compact pistol safe also features an elongated hole to accept V-Line's Optional Custom Security Cable on the left side corner of the case. The Vline Compact Keyless Gun Storage Security Locker is a sturdy metal safe equipped with many great features. While the safe is considerably smaller than many handgun safes on the market, the safe offers enough interior space (for both compact and standard sized firearms) that give enough room for additional magazines, etc. In addition to the sturdiness and convenience in size, the Vline Compact comes equipped with a simplex style lock. Personally, I find the simplex style locks the most reliable mechanical lock in providing both speed, security, and reliability. Not only is the mechanical system far more reliable than an electronic safe system, but the code style lock is simple enough to open in the dark for an emergency, yet secure enough to keep others from gaining access to your firearms. One feature I would appreciate in an updated version would is the additional steel backing behind the interior mechanics of the simplex lock much like the newer Vline Brute. (The Brute would be a much more recommended option if you are looking to store more than one firearm.) In the rear corner of the safe are two holes for either mounting the safe to an object such as furniture, a car seat, etc., or for the ability to slot certain cables through the safe for storing devices such as hard drives. Overall, I would strongly recommend this safe to new handgun owners who are looking for a reliable safe. This is great for room placement or safe travelling.

Just wanted to take a minute to leave a review on the V-Line gun storage security. I received the box and was excited to try it out. We bought two of them. Right off the bat you can see the build quality was excellent. The knob is responsive and the buttons have good tension. You know everything works right out of the box. The inside of the safe has padding, so your gun is not going to just be rattling around. The real test is the ease of use. We purchased the safes with this type of locking mechanism to avoid the need to change batteries or have a spare key lying around waiting to get lost. I must say that I was impressed. The instructions inside are very clear and setting a new code is simple. The default code even demonstrates how many combination possibilities there are, For a safe that is so simple to use, it has a good number of features that will secure your firearm. My only caution for anyone looking to purchase this for a full size gun with any extended magazine is to go one size larger than the compact version. Everything will fit, but just a little tight. I love the compact size, so I made it work. This compact box is a pleasant surprise. It fits perfectly in all my drawers, so it gives me many options if I choose to mount this safe. This is definitely a great price for the product. Less expensive safes just don't have the conveniences that the V-Line Compact Security box does. I am realy happy with the built quality and the ease of use.

I purchased this to serve as a quick-action pistol safe to utilize in my home. Before doing so I established my criteria. First, I wanted something that used a simplex mechanical lock. Low-cost digital locks that utilize low-grade electronics seem rife for failure. Plus, I wasn't interested in changing batteries. I'm already bad about changing the air filters in my house, I didn't want to be locked of my life-saving tool because I forgot to swap out some AA's. Second, I wanted something sturdy that wouldn't be easily opened by simply slamming it on the ground. Seriously, watch YouTube. Many of the less expensive safes will just pop open if they hit the ground hard enough. Lastly, I didn't need a massive safe. A small, single handgun, safe was more than sufficient. The Good: In all of those criteria, the V-Line safe was excellent. The simplex lock is easy to use. I'm assuming if I ever need to use this it will be in the middle of the night and in the dark. The audible and tactile response from the buttons give me assurance that I could literally retrieve my firearm blind folded with only a little practice. Furthermore, the thickness and strength of the construction is obvious. The thing is stinking heavy. I have great assurances that you won't be able to pry this thing open. And lastly, while there isn't tons of space in the case, it adequately fits my Glock 17 with a mounted light and a spare magazine (and with a little room to spare even). Hard to complain since that's everything I was hoping it'd store. The Bad: The confines of the case are certainly cramped, even if it does fit my firearm. Now, that's not a major complaint for me. As I said, it fits exactly what I need it to fit - including a tactical light and a spare magazine. But it did take a little trial and error to determine how to place the gun in the case in order for it to close. The simplex lock is on the lid of the case, but it needs a space for it to come down into the case when closed and locked. This means that just because things fit in the case it might not close. Still, once I learned to just put the hammer (or where the hammer would be if it weren't a striker-fired pistol) as far as I could in the upper right-hand corner it was a non-issue. Still, if you're looking to store more than one pistol in the case it's probably going to be a struggle. The other concern I had was a lack of mounting options on the bottom of the case. It has a slot cut through the steel where a cable could be attached (not included, you must buy that separately). But I was hoping to physically mount this inside a drawer or to some other solid surface. No dice. Honestly, that's a very easy feature to add and it's unclear why they didn't just cut a few holes in the back to provide this option. Practical examples: I've tried to upload photos with this review but Amazon is being goofy and won't let me. But below are the pistols that I tested with this case. All of them were able to close and lock without issue with a magazine in the weapon. Glock 17 - with mounted light plus 1 spare magazine Glock 43 - with finger extension magazine in the well plus 1 spare magazine Ruger LCP - plus 1 spare magazine Kimber 1911 TLE II (full size 1911) - plus 1 spare magazine M57 Tokarev (Yugoslavian model with longer grip) Canik TP9SF

Update after 3 years of use: Still a fantastic value and it works 100%, always has. No batteries, no fingerprint readers that can and will fail (not if but when). Read reviews about people figuring out how to defeat the Simplex locks. Well, yeah, if you let someone have access to any kind of lock they will be able to get past it, just takes enough time. This is a pistol or valuable security box, not a safe. If you leave any firearm where other people can get to it for an extended period of time then that isn't really smart or you need some other kind of security solution, no portable or small box type system is going to stop anyone if they have unauthorized access for extended time. There are no miracle solutions for firearms storage security, none. Even your 10,000 pound safe bolted to concrete is vulnerable given enough time. They take the entire safe, rip it from the concrete and are gone in seconds. So be smart, locate this security box out of the way so no one sees it and then back that up with an intrusion security system. If you have friends or family that are allowed unrestricted access to your security or safe boxes and they steal your things that is not the fault of any security box or safe, it's a personal problem you need to fix. Same with children. No one should leave children where they have unrestricted access to safes or security boxes period. You might think your kids are wonderful and trustworthy, are their friends? Kids talk, anyone with kids who also has firearms guess what? Their friends, their friend's friends and all their parents know too. No matter disciplined they are, kids will talk because they do no matter what you think. So, be smart, locate your security boxes out of sight so that visitors just don't see them and to gain access to them they are violating your privacy and deal with that. In your vehicle, same thing, locate it out of sight. Leaving a security box in plain sight invites thieves to break in. Simple. It isn't cheap but it is worth every penny you pay for it. I've tried all the biometric reader and electronic lock boxes, none are 100% reliable and few are reliable to the point you'd trust trying to get inside when you really need it. This works, it works every time. Why would you buy anything that didn't work perfectly every time? Buy this, you won't regret it.

I just received the handgun safe storage from V-line. It is well constructed and I really like the mechanical lock which does not rely on battery replacement. The directions were very clear but you could also see a video on how to set the combination. It has 5 buttons on top of the unit which provides for many combinations. As previous reviews have stated, do not close the lid until you have set the new combination and tried it out with the lid open. I would also caution potential buyers to make sure that their handgun will fit into the box because the box is shallow and the lock mechanism could impact the handgun upon closing the lid. My revolver fit into it but I had to place it so that I could close the lid properly. Overall, it is a good product that I would purchase again.

Super good quality and a must have if you have kids in your home, it requires no batteries and you wont ever fail to get into your box because of dead batteries, difference between life and death :) Update: this is not at all safe, is very easily opened, i did not know this until someone pointed me to a video on youtube which shows how easy its done with practically no tools, i tried it on mine and was even easier than expected, what a humbling experience, i even reached out to V-Line and received a follow up message telling me to contact the office ! for what the product is unsafe even for kids, it can be knocked out opened and re locked its crazy, i regret it everyday, at top tier price i expect at least some form if comfort, i have since replaced my 4 safes with Viking boxes, i destroyed one Viking lock making sure it was safe and replaced the lock for $56, this is a case where you literally don't get what you pay for, Shame on you V-Line

This a very nice lock box. I purchased it over an electronic safe to not have to deal with changing batteries, keeping a spare key, and having to worry about a safe dying and me not being able to access my firearm. The lock is very nice with positive, firm clicks. It is very easy to reset the combination and there are endless combinations you can create. It is quite small, especially with the locking mechanism protruding down into the case so much. It fits my Springfield XDs only pointing left without hitting the lock, and has room for an extra magazine. It is a very sturdy, good quality safe, and I see no way to break into it. The only drawback I can see other than the protruding lock is that the lever is quite loud when turning it to unlock the safe. There is a pretty loud click when turning the dial, which I was disappointed to discover, but it isn't a deal breaker.

Don't be like me. I ordered this safe to hold a small pistol. I practiced opening and closing multiple times before I put the pistol in. Then, for several months, I had no reason to open the safe. When the (non-emergency) time came to open it, I couldn't. I tried everything I could think of. Many, many times. In despair, I finally took the safe to a locksmith. It took three people, but eventually they were able to open the safe. I was disgusted and angry...and out $60 for the locksmith, with no usable safe. I stewed, then contacted Amazon for customer service. Could I get a refund? That in itself was a 45-minute fiasco of being routed to through the exact same pages I had already gone through to try to get a result, with no joy. Finally, I felt I should call the company directly, just to get some closure on this disappointing saga. That's where everything turned around. The folks I spoke to worked at the company--not outsourced customer service agents, unlike virtually every other such experience I've had in the last year plus. They pleaded...pleaded...for me to contact them first if problems arose, no matter how desperate the situation seemed from my end. Sometimes you don't know what you don't know. A gentleman walked me through what I SHOULD have done (completely counter-intuitive) and agreed to send a replacement safe. I am satisfied, chastened, and hopeful that others can learn from my mistakes...both for your own sake and the sake of the poor folks at the company, who were pulling their hair out over my choices. Read the instructions and, if anything goes amiss, definitely, definitely call the company for support.
