Man, this thing is neat! I knew (still don't) nothing about metal detection prior to this other than it's one of the very few things one can do fully clothed on a beach and not be deemed suspicious. I happen to live near the beach and have always wanted to try this so here we are. When I tell you that this unit is about as plug & play as you can reasonably expect it to be, I mean it. I would never lie to you, you know that. Not after everything we've been through together. Come on . It comes with the batteries it tells you it doesn't come with which is always a bittersweet surprise for me. I enjoy not having to get the batteries, but what if I was a proactive kind of dude and I went out and bought the batteries thinking that I would need them, per the instructions, and doing that made me late to take my dog to the groomer and after dropping him there, I try to make good time to get to my next class and get pulled over and ticketed for doing 37 in a 25? Now I have points on my license, my insurance is definitely going up. All because you told me that batteries weren't included, YOU told ME that!!! YOU!! ...The unit does not come with headphones but it does have a port for them to plug into and while the audio (beeping) works great with or without the headphones, I recommend using headphones as that's what keeps everyone around you from hating you. As a matter of aesthetic preference, the UTRBATT Metal Detector, Professional Waterproof Gold Silver Detector, Backlit LCD Display, High Accuracy Coil Metal Detectors for Treasure Hunting tends to skew a bit childish. Which is probably accurate and intentional if this is geared toward younger amateur detectors (" pre"tectors, if you will) . I think the emojis make me feel immature while I'm already doing something that is difficult for people with social anxiety to do. Bottom Line: (nuts and bolts, hehe): It's kinda short but it works.     • Lots of fun
This metal detector is a lot of fun. Comparing this to a high-end metal detector is silly and knowing this, my expectations were set appropriately. This thing is a ton of fun though. The assembly instructions were easy to follow and everything you need to get started is included. After reading the instructions on usage and testing it out around the house on miscellaneous items, I can tell this is going to be fun to play around with outside. My only gripe is that the length is a little short. This is perfect for a kid though. We live in an old home and I can't wait to try it outside and see what I find. This is good detector for someone who is just getting into metal detecting, or kids who want to go detecting with their parents. I go this for my child to go with mew so that they would have something to detect with as well, without throwing a bunch of money down for something they may not really enjoy. The detector works and does a pretty good job, not a lot of bells and whistles, but if my child really does start to enjoy detecting and wants something more advanced, we can move up from here. This detector has a lot of plastic that does not seem as robust as one might need for the long term, but it does its job. For this entry level detector, it does look nice and it does function well, so you will have everything you need to go have an adventure.     • Functional, Easy to Assemble
There is some good and not so good, here. On the plus side, this product was well-packed, with everything arriving undamaged. The assembly as super quick and easy. Without referencing the manual, I probably had it fully assembled in just about 1 minute, without tools. The manual says the two required 9V batteries are not included, but they are included and are name-brand alkalyne batteries. If you have any experience with modern metal detectors, you probably could navigate the user interface without the manual as well. I had to read up on it, first, as the hieroglyphics used on the user interface did not make sense to me. The unit has a useful and recommended earphone jack, but no included earphones. I tried the unit with and without earphones and it indicated loudly and clearly in both cases. The unit is so light that fatigue from use is hard to imagine. On the not so good side, the unit seems to be very fragile. Also, the length of the boom at maximum extension is just barely to short for a 6-foot-tall operator. This is probably my biggest gripe - the boom length requires constant attention to keeping your arm at full extension. I tested the unit on various targets, like bottle caps, coins, and hardware.     • Not What I Expected 😔

The media could not be loaded. I was excited when I ordered this metal detector, but all my excitement fizzled after I assembled the unit and tested it. I pit out a few coins on the floor and tested the detector. It kept beeping and regardless of where the metals were. It showed a 0.25 cents as nickel and after few tries a quarter. It didn't let out a long distinguished sound when it reached or found the metals. So it is hard to walk around hearing constant beeps and not the actual metal location. Also, the arm rest is short and the round top of the handle is uncomfortable and hurts. It feels more like a toy than a real metal detector for that much money. ... show more

Or people wanting to dip their toes into metal detecting without loosing an arm and a leg. Display is very user friendly, though a little rudimentary. Only issue is it seems the depth meter is wired or setup backwards. It starts off lighting up the deep end and moves to shallow. That or it is actually signal strength, maybe. Super easy to assemble as well ... show more
