I have simple sheers hanging from these rods, and they're just fine for that. I'd be hesitant though to suggest these for a heavy curtain. The rod may bow unless a strong center support bracket is added. They were very easy to put together and the finials add a bit of bling to the room. I'm happy!

The balls at the end of the rod are pretty. It's really pretty and the brackets that come with it extend pretty far from the wall to accommodate for my blinds so that's nice. I guess the one thing I didn't expect was that the rod comes in four pieces that you screw together so there are lines and it's not a clear straight rod. I've got used to it though I like this rod because it's so different from other rods I've seen. I thought it was kind of spendy. I wish it didn't come in four pieces and that it was the traditional two-piece rod that you screw together. It works great and I'm grateful.
