It's hard to say whether these are effective. I haven't seen bugs, but maybe that's a coincidence. I've purchased a similar brand before, and the blue light on the front was much brighter. Initially I thought these were defective, but they weren't.

I recently got a pest control repellent because I suspected that the apartment next to mine might have roaches. I had only seen one in my apartment, but it freaked me out enough to take action. I keep my place super clean and have never had issues before, so this was a new experience for me. I plugged the repellent into my wall, and since then, I haven’t seen any more roaches. From my perspective, it seems to be working well. I’ll need to check the instructions again, but I didn’t notice an expiration date on the device. I’m not very technical, so I can’t explain exactly how it works, but I believe it uses sound waves in the walls to repel pests. I can’t hear anything and don’t even realize it’s plugged in, which is great. Overall, I’m pleased with this purchase and feel more at ease in my apartment.

This review is for Upgraded Ultrasonic Pest Control Repeller from TEcoArt, 6 Pack. In writing this review, I tried to address two concerns about the product, its efficacy in doing what it states it was developed for and health related concerns. We placed these at a newly built location that was not used for living. Whenever I see the word “upgraded” in any product, I expect also to see what was the upgrade about. In this case, this remains a mystery. Regardless … as you might know, in 1908s’, the FTC (The Federal Trade Commission) charged the manufacturers of such devices with false advertising and made them accept returns from customers and pay for such returns. Since I do not believe evolution of any species can occur within a 40-to-50 year lifespan, what changed in the bugs to make them susceptible to such technologies? As such, take all claims with a grain of salt. The manufacturer claims these units, six of them in a package, can cover a surface area of about 800 sq meters (or roughly about 8,600 sq feet). The average house in the US has between 2,000 to 3,000 sq feet per level. Did the manufacturer err in converting the surface area units? All is possible. They also advertise there is no noise emitted by these units. To clarify, no AUDIBLE sound is made since these operate at frequencies between 22,000 to 65,000 Hz, much higher than what an agile ear in a human can perceive (at 20,000 Hz). This does not mean that not hearing any sound is safe for your ear, or pets’. Since no power description (in Watts per square centimeter for example) is given by the manufacturer, I would not assume these are safe. For example, a cat can hear frequencies of about 60,000 Hz so they might become agitated when these are turned on. There are not many scientific papers that show efficacy of such units, however a study done in 2021 in “Insects” publication revealed only a 19.5% repelling efficacy of these devices against the Australian paralysis tick after 1 hour of running. In the interest of these health-related unknowns, I would not operate these repellents in the same room with living mammals.
