It is safe for people and pets which was a very important to me because I do spray on my porch and it keeps all bugs away I mean almost every single one and it is very strong smell to it but I enjoy the natural fragrance but I know it can bother some folks so be aware of that. A great bug spray and safe for pets. I spray around my dogs doggie door and door saddle to stop unwanted intruders and it doesn't hurt her if it gets on her feet. It smells very nice too. But what i found out was that it even repels pack rats or woodrats. I live in the borders of the Nantahala National forest of North Carolina. Outskirts of the Smoky mountains. Lately i noticed one of these (cute) critters on my deck late at night, after 20 years of living here. Never have i seen one before, it was turning on my sensor lights as it traveled around my deck, up the steps and across my deck to the bbq grill! I normally like anything with fur, but they bring disease and snakes. I was told to spray peppermint around, they don't like strong scents. But not essential oils, which are harmful to dogs and cats. What did i have in my house, Kate's home and garden spray. Peppermint and cedar. I sprayed it where i knew he was coming onto my deck, the steps, his pathway across the deck and around my bbq grill. His destination. Once it dried, i knew my dog was safe to walk on it. We waited and watched. No sensor lights ever turned on again. He never came back out of the woods. The rat never returned to my deck!!!! He did not like peppermint, that's for sure. And he stayed away, but unharmed. Plus, my dog was not harmed by dangerous chemicals. A win win situation. I’ve been trying to be less toxic with what goes in my home. We live in Hawaii with A LOT of bugs. I spray this every week or so and the only bugs I ever do see now are dead right at the door seals/ windows, they don’t make it into the house. It doesn’t smell terrible and I’m not worried about it giving me cancer like typical anti insect spray. Lots of use for one bottle too, definitely worth the price! ... show more

I've been using it as an, if I see bugs I spray kind of repellent around the house at the moment, with the on and off downpours in my area washing it away outside. Appreciate that I don't have to worry too much if my dogs go near it, they also hate the initial smell so have no interest. It does have a very strong smell at first but fades within an hour. Does it work? Idk! But i’m gonna keep using it anyways! It has a smell that reminds me of like stained wood.. I don’t like it, but it’s not horrible. It’s strong but not too overwhelming. I spray this umm almost everywhere😂 But I like to spray the entire perimeter of the side of my mattress. To repel spiders. The container is sturdy; the sprayer works well. But the scent is not nearly as strong as I feel it needs to be. Maybe some don’t want a scent as strong as I do. It’s a light pleasant cedar-mint fragrance that dissipates quickly. It’s October in New Hampshire. I was hoping to discourage seasonal ladybugs, stinkbugs, wasps, flies that try to come inside as the weather gets colder. But they’re still coming in any space they can find around screens and patio sliding door- Even though ALL have been heavily sprayed with this product. To be honest, I'm usually a little skeptical when it comes to buying natural products but the reviews were good so I gave it a try. I've been having issues with ants lately and tried this for the first time today and they really don't like it. It won't kill them (unless you spray it directly on or near them) but they really don't like crossing areas you've sprayed with it. I watched one of them twitch and die just because I sprayed this near it. The scent is powerful but pleasant. It smells like Christmas in a bottle. I'm still going to spray some Home Defense but I thought this would be good to try on areas I don't want to spray with chemicals like inside cabinets or counters. It does say to not spray on areas that come in contact with food but I'm going to be keeping all my food in plastic containers for the time being and this product is still good to use on counter top edges and walls. I also sprayed some on a paper towel and wiped it all over the cupboard doors and drawers. It seems safe to use but does have sodium lauryl sulfate which I'm sensitive to but not a bad idea to use gloves while using.
