It seems that most of the negative reviews are from customers who do not understand what this product is or how it works. Let me be clear: THIS. IS. NOT. RAID! It's actually better! Raid is a chemical substance that is designed to sicken and kill insects almost instantly upon contact. Which is great if you happen to see the bugs and spray them before they scurry away. But what about the other creepy crawlies that might be lurking elsewhere in your home? Bugs, especially ants and roaches, rarely travel alone. So if you see one, chances are there are others that have yet to reveal themselves. And Raid will only get rid of the bugs that you happen to find and spray yourself. Ortho, on the other hand, isn't designed to kill the bugs immediately. Instead, it infects the bugs with a slow-acting poison that might take hours or even days to actually kill them. How is this a good thing? Because it gives the bugs plenty of time to return to the colony and infect the others with the toxin that clings to their bodies. In my opinion this product is better than Raid because it doesn't require you to find the bugs yourself. Just spray around the areas where you have seen the most bug activity (i.e. basements, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and voila! The bugs are doomed. Granted, it takes time and patience. Depending on the severity of your infestation, it might take weeks or even months for your home to become completely bug-free. However, you should probably take into consideration that even an overpriced exterminator can't rid you of your bug problem in one quick visit. Most exterminators make frequent visits to your home where they will charge you out the nose just to spray down your living quarters with an almost identical product. Call me crazy, but I'd rather cut out the middle man and save a few Benjamins by doing it myself instead of paying a stranger to come into a house every week to do it for me. I hope this review clarifies any confusion that someone might have and provide future buyers with a better understanding of what they're actually paying for. Update: Something I forgot to mention in my original post is the importance of keeping a clean and dry home. The poison works by attacking the bugs' immune system and making them fatally ill. And just like humans require food and lots of fluids to recover when we're sick, so do bugs. Keeping your home dry and clean as possible will allow the extermination process to work much more efficiently. ... show more

I was a little skeptical at first but after the first pass in the house, I definitely saw a difference. Almost night and day. I moved to a new home and quickly found out that pest issues were going to be something that needed immediate addressing. Biggest issue were the ants. We used traps (both the ones you place on the floors and also the gel ones that they eat and take back to their nests) but found it ineffective. With a million roaches per acre in Georgia, they WILL get inside your otherwise clean, tidy house. Decided to try this spray and it wiped out all of them within a week! Two applications under cabinets, behind appliances, and baseboards did the trick. I didn't know it came with a battery operated wand until it arrived and it couldn't have been easier to apply. Moved to a new house that had a lot of bugs and was able to help within a few days. Next day noticed a lot of them dead around the house. And after a few days didn’t see any. It was a normal day- just like any other when I was on my way to take out the garbage. I was started when I saw a cluster of yellow sacks hanging out in a crevice of my garbage can. When curiosity got the best of me I used a spray bottle with bleach and dish soap in an attempt to eradicate them when a GIGANTIC MAMA SPIDER came rushing out at me - I screeched like a 4 year old girl and most likely startled all my neighbors and ran in the house to grab my Ortho home defense spray. As soon as I sprayed the sucker it shriveled up and plopped to the bottom of the can where it belonged. I know she was a mother but I feel no remorse for it was for the good of my fur children and myself. I don't understand some of the reviews that say it doesn't work, doesn't kill ___ insects, doesn't provide a barrier etc. Because this poison killed everything I sprayed on contact, and stopped ants from going back to a spot. Even if you can't find the source of the ants coming in your house, this will help you keep them at bay at least. I really second guessed myself buying this due to all the negative reviews, but it does all the basic things it claims. Don't bother trying to compare it to a bunch of other options, just try it and return it if it doesn't work for you, it most likely will work fine(and it came shipped with a special sticker on the screw top to avoid leaks in shipping). I actually was surprised that it's pet safe with how similar it was to other poison I've sprayed. Note, I was dealing with a summer invasion of ants, indoor and outdoor, coming out of everywhere when it got real hot for a couple months. We had trouble with black ground beetles this year in our basement. I had tried many different types & brands of bug defenses & bug killers with no luck what so ever. This is the only one that worked. I watched the video & followed the directions exactly as it said & within a week or 2 I had not seen any ore of these bugs or any others. The spray has somewhat of a smell, but not like Raid or other sprays. My eyes burned a little after spraying. I just sprayed it so I don't know how well it works as of yet.
