I had to laugh when particles of shiny metal came off into my ore as I was crushing it. The "stainless steel" is just a thin coating of shiny chrome metal. Their care instructions tell you to make sure it is dry after use for longer life so I was not surprised at this at all. Real stainless steel will not rust so leaving it wet will not harm it. Anyway, this is functional and does what I need it to. It crushes ore for gold extraction in samples. This is a bit thinner than another one I have at the same price. On a side by side comparison the walls and the base are thinner than my other one. But that means it is a bit lighter weight as well which makes this better for packing out in the field in a backpack. With any metal ore crusher there are going to be particles of fine metal in your ore. This is nothing unusual. But the chrome particles coming off were not expected. So far though the metal has held up to running some ore samples through it. For a small ore crusher for field testing this works fine. This one will be my grab and go crusher for field trips. This stainless steel rock/glass/shell crusher is just alright and the quality could be better. The first thing that I noticed about this crusher was that the hammer head isn't welded perfectly straight onto the handle. I do like that that there's two handles on the cylinder because it will work for a left or right handed person and you could also attach some weight to stabilize the cylinder and use both hands on the handle. There's plenty of room around the hammer head when it's inside the cylinder which allow air to escape. I wouldn't consider this crusher to be heavy duty and I think it's best suited for less dense rocks, shells, or glass. ... show more
