I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: My neighbor got into metal detecting last summer and it looked like a super fun hobby. I've never done it before and wanted something with enough features to learn on, but not so complicated that I'd give up on it immediately. Likes: * The six detection modes are useful. I took this out to a local park and switched between coin mode and all metal mode to compare what each one picked up. The difference is noticeable. Coin mode cuts out a lot of the trash signals you get from bottle caps and aluminum scraps. * Battery life on this thing is insane. I went out for a long afternoon hunt and it didn't even come close to dying on me. The USB-C port is also a nice touch since I already carry one of those cables everywhere. * The LCD screen is clear and easy to read even in bright sunlight. It gives you a number readout when it detects something, and you start to learn pretty quickly which numbers correspond to which types of metal. * Everything you need comes in the box. The backpack is snazzy and fits all the gear. No likes: * The stem adjustment is a little screwy. It took me a while to get it locked at the right height and it felt slightly loose even after I tightened it with the included wrench. * The headphones are flimsy. Like, really bad flimsy. I wouldn't trust them to last more than a few outings. I'd just buy a separate pair. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, barely. Final thoughts: The modes do what I described above and the screen stays readable when you're hunting in full sun. The headphones are garbage but the detector itself is zippy and responsive. If you're just getting into this hobby, it's worth the money for the core unit alone.

I've always been fascinated with metal detecting, and with a background in history I was interested in trying one of these for myself. The main support of the metal detector, as shown, does adjust easily for different height users, however the aluminum tubes are held in place by friction, and this may not be the most reliable or solid long-term. Everything connected perfectly and after charging for a moderate length of time I was able to immediately try it out. Everything worked great and I was able to test it on screws and other metal items. I did have to consult the operating manual for the different settings of magnetic fields you can set it to so I understood what all the buttons did, though. The water-resistant cap on the charging port is only held in by an arrow-shaped stub and so unfortunately, that popped out fairly easily and I was unable to get it back in; I don't plan on metal detecting in the rain, however, so it's not a major issue. It looks like a cursory attempt was made to give the hard plastic handle an ergonomic design, but this did not even fit my (adult male) hands and seems fairly uncomfortable. Overall though, this is a nice budget metal detector. The arm brace adjusts with a velcro strap to your arm to make holding it easier, and it's solid but not too heavy.

So far, this metal detector has been a lot of fun! I will say right away that I am definitely not an expert when it comes to metal detectors. The only other one I have really used was when I was a kid and my uncle had one, so I have absolutely no idea whether that one was considered good, bad, or somewhere in between. With that said, this one seems pretty good to me and has been really enjoyable to mess around with. I have not uncovered some giant treasure chest or anything amazing yet, but I have found quite a few little metal objects around the yard and other areas that I never knew were there. Honestly, that is half the fun of it. Even finding random old pieces of metal, coins, or little buried objects feels oddly satisfying when you are walking around waiting for that signal. It has several different detection modes, and the screen is pretty straightforward once you spend a little time getting familiar with everything. I also really like that it is rechargeable instead of needing to constantly feed it disposable batteries. The adjustable stem makes it comfortable to use, and at least for the amount of time I have been walking around with it, it has not felt overly heavy or annoying to carry. As far as detection depth goes, I would keep your expectations reasonable. It is not some magical machine that is going to locate a tiny piece of metal buried twenty feet underground. For normal backyard, beach, or casual treasure hunting, though, it seems plenty capable and has consistently picked up things for me. Overall, I have been really pleased with it. I cannot really compare it to professional metal detectors since I do not have that experience, but as someone who just wanted something decent and fun to use, this has absolutely delivered. Now I just need to find something worth bragging about!

I picked up this upgraded metal detector to get into the hobby without spending a fortune, and it has been a lot more fun and capable than I expected. Right away, the setup was straightforward, and the adjustable stem made it easy to get a comfortable height for longer sessions. The 6 mode system is genuinely useful. I can switch between all metal, discrimination, and pinpoint modes depending on whether I am at the beach, in the backyard, or hunting for small targets. The LCD display is clear and easy to read, even in bright sunlight, which helps me keep track of settings and battery level. I like that it is rechargeable instead of relying on disposable batteries. I have been able to get several hours of use on a charge, which is plenty for a day trip. The IP68 waterproof rating on the coil and lower stem gives me confidence using it in wet sand, shallow water, and damp grass without worrying about damage. Accuracy feels solid for this price range. I have found coins, small jewelry pieces, and a few old relics with consistent signals and minimal false alerts once I adjusted the sensitivity. It is also lightweight enough that my arm does not get tired quickly. Overall, this is a well designed, beginner friendly detector that still feels capable enough for regular use. This is my first metal detector, so I don't have much experience to compare it to, but I've been having a lot of fun with it so far. It was pretty easy to figure out, and I like being able to adjust the settings depending on what I'm looking for. The display is easy to read, and having the rechargeable battery means I don't have to worry about keeping a bunch of batteries around. I've mostly been using it for some casual searching, and it's been a fun excuse to get outside and explore. It's lightweight enough that I don't get tired carrying it around, and the adjustable stem makes it easy to get comfortable with. I’m still learning how to tell the different signals apart, so I’m sure there’s a learning curve that comes with getting better at using it. For a first metal detector, though, I’m happy with it and excited to see what I eventually find.
