I got this metal detector to have an alternate when we go on our treasure hunts. I did not expect it to be good, and halfway thought it was going to be a waste. Boy was I wrong! This is actually a really nice detector and I'll be using quite a bit. The charging is easy and I love that ability. I do kinda wish that I could swap out batteries, though, because once the charge is done then so are you. However, because it is USB-C I can also bring along a power pack like I use for my phone to charge it up in the wild. They say a charge will last 40 hours, I haven't hit that yet while using it so it might not even be an issue. Assembly is easy. Instructions are included, but honestly the videos in the listing are all you need. The length is adjustable and the arm rest works well. I also appreciate the other videos that show how to operate. Operation is very easy and streamlined for simplicity. This isn't a super-powered Minelab metal detector or anything, but it does do a decent job finding things. I love the built-in pinpoint mode and the ability to set it to look for specific things. For the price this is a very good detector. It also comes with a nice digger tool, headphones, and bag. Looking for change has become a hobby for the family. My kids love to see if they can find money and what better way to try than taking your chances metal detecting at the local park. We took the Detect Trek to the local park and found over $3 in change. The metal detector is easy to use. Assembling the metal detector was easy as well. Following the directions, before we went to the park, I practiced to make sure I knew how to use all the features on the detector. Once familiar, we loaded up into the car and started our treasure hunt at the local park. Most of the coins detected were found between the blades of grass, but I found a few quarters and dimes that were under the soil. One battery lasted all afternoon without issue. Even though we only found change, it was a fun family outing that we will be doing again. The metal detector is easy to use and fun to work. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in this hobby. ... show more

I was impressed with the amount of features and adjustments on this device. It is mostly plastic with a multipart adjustable aluminum "stem" to allow for lots of adjustment. The plastic feels like a sturdy high-quality construction. I'm sure much more expensive pro models are mostly metal. But, this is a very reasonably priced model that will allow you to learn and actually find things with. It includes headphones, a backpack, a digger/knife with a belt attachment, a nicely detailed manual, and is rechargeable through a USB-C connector. It definitely detects different types of metals. But, it's going to take some practice to better interpret the beeps and displays. ... show more

Several issues. The construction probably is not going to lead to a very long lifespan and second, it just does not work all that well, certainly not for the value. While searching the backyard, the detector will alert to something being found, yet when going over the same spot again, nothing is found. One moment it alerts to a specific area, and then the next alert is to the area beside the original area, then the next moment it alerts to nothing at all. It seems very unreliable and leads you on wild goose chases. I was able to find a single penny, so I give it 2 stars for that, but generally it's not up to snuff and probably not even good enough for the kids. ... show more

    • Struggling to get this to find anything

The unit is easy to set up and seemingly easy to use, but my son and I tried using this around our property for an hour and kept coming up with false hits. We tested it on various coins tossed on the driveway and it worked perfectly. But out in the yard it kept triggering, then we'd use the Pinpoint mode and the target kept moving. I'd dig, find nothing, he'd use pinpoint again and it was 4 inches away, I'd dig, find nothing, he'd use pinpoint again and it was 4 inches away, wash, rinse, repeat. Very strange. We had it on Jewelry Mode to exclude iron and junk, and it kept finding screws and nails on the surface. We'll keep playing with it and I'll update the review if anything changes but this has been frustrating and disappointing so far. ... show more

I really like this metal detector. We found all sorts of stuff to test it the first day. It's a smidge bulky, I wish it was thinner profile, but it works great. It's easy to use and tunable to many metals. It's fairly comfortable to carry, but could be lighter. Audio is loud enough but also has headphones in case. I recommend this and will be using mine a lot. ... show more

I've always been fascinated when I see folks on the beach with these metal detectors in search of treasure. I always wanted one but felt they were out of reach. So, when I saw this, the kid in me had to have it. Even right out of the box it is pretty impressive. It is pretty high tech but low learning curve. I like that. It does a lot but you only need to learn 5 or 6 buttons. It's a breeze. I can't wait to start treasure hunting. If I find a treasure chest full of gold, I'll let you know. This detector is an impressive TOOL, and not a toy like so many other ones on the market. Features I love are the removable rechargeable electronics unit, a real manual to guide optimizing the electronics for what you are searching for, a solid yet easily adjustable handle to enable both 6' 3" me and my 5' 4" wife to change users, large detection head, and included headphones and backpack.
