I did this potions kit with my six year old and 11-year-old daughters. In my opinion the best thing about this kit is that it comes with plenty! We were easily able to stretch this activity for three people, and we still had plenty left over. The instructions were simple enough for an early reader to understand, although the six year-old needed more assistance, and my 11-year-old was pretty much able to do all of it on her own. Some of the potions only have the special ingredients to do once, but that is the exception, rather than the rule. If you are doing this for the first time, I would like to give a little advice, make sure you always leave plenty of space for adding the cork, if you get too much water, the cork will force it out. Also, the instructions suggest putting down paper to prevent a huge mass, and I want to emphatically second that instruction, and also mention that paper towels are a necessity! There is a bubbling potion included that should be done with parental supervision. It does not include instructions for how much water to use and we just added water until the bubbling and frothing overflowed the test tube. It didn’t seem to be an exact science. ... show more
