  • Don't judge a book by its cover
These bars look a little flimsy and the plastic cover that slides over the lock doesn't really ever look like it's fully in place, but if you assemble and install them correctly they are functional and secure. Installation and removal is pretty straightforward. I've used them to haul kayaks numerous times and they work great. Obviously you can't beat the price. The extra hooks included are a nice touch. ... show more

  • Product Failed - caused damage to trailer and destroying carrier
Install was simple and direct. Double checked stability with my own body weight several times. Seemingly solid. Was happy with the directions and setup. Attached a carrier and put blankets and pillows into it. Used setup going back and forth between locations several times without issue or shifting. Later, At freeway speeds, rails detached causing entire setup to fall onto my trailer, colliding with the back ramp bending it, and the carrier and contents spilling onto the side of the freeway. Luckily, no part of the rails, carrier, or contents were on the freeway and traffic was light. Carrier was destroyed. Rails were destroyed. All was discarded at the next safe stop. From a quick visual inspection, it seemed like either a ratchet failed or the entire foot/ratchet assembly separated from the rail itself. Would recommend a model that does not use a ratcheting system but rather uses a bolting clamp system if OEM parts/connections cannot be used. Purchased this one due to the shipping time. Was going to get a different kind due to this design, but now that I no longer have a carrier these are not necessary. Will be looking to get some kind of refund to recoup the cost of damaged trailer and destroyed carrier. ... show more

  • Worked for me
They're great universal rack bars. I bought them for my 1998 Honda crv and I got them on pretty easily. You have to kind of mess with the adjuster a bit to understand it but once you do it's a breeze to put on. Beware of the plastic though. It is a bit sharp. ( Update) I ended up taking the racks off due to rain getting into my car. The clamps that clamp onto the car push the weather strips on the door a bit to where if it's raining water can get in. It can very well depend on the way the weather strip is on the car and maybe can be adjusted to where it can be avoided. Safe side for me was to take them off till the wet season is over. ... show more

  • Nice concept, relatively easy to set up
So it was relatively a pain to set up because the instructions are a little vague. Eventually after playing around with it for a bit I was able to get the fitment correct. 1. Unlock the cover, but leave it in the closed position 2. Insert the metal ratchet shims until its pretty close 3. fully open, then close the cover piece to ratchet and make it right, slowly, and not too tight. I overdid it and it bent the door shims. You want it secure, but not too tight. 4. To release, lift the plastic bar under the cover, and leave it like 70% open. This part was a total freaking pain and wiggling/giggling is required. PROS -Includes two different clip styles -Relatively easy to set up -Rubber inserts for non slip -Fits nearly anything -It feels VERY secure after I got it all tightened down, but the set up was a total pain. CONS -Width is not adjustable. There is a another hole for the screw to fit into if you take it all apart, but then the plastic cover doesn't fit, so never intended to change width. -Whistles, but most racks do, going to rig up a wind guard for that. My take away; It was $60 for a roof rack, nothing else is nearly that cheap, nothing. So we will see how long it functions. I plan to use it for a cargo carrier as well, so we will see what the total apparatus ends up looking like. -UPDATE- I added a roof rack to the bars ($90 w coupon), and I can rock the car back and forth without the cross bars moving, or any hint or wiggling. They are super solid. The roof rack completely removed any noise at all at 60 mph (had a pretty bad howl before), perfect angle, so very satisfied with this purchase. it was $60, find me anything cheaper. Sometimes you can find an old rusty used thule rack that might have the clips for $250+ so do the math. I've had it loaded and no issues so far, I will update if the whole thing flies off or anything. 2006 kia rio5 Manual trans. 210,000MI. Still rolling~ ... show more

  • You get what you pay for 🤷♂️
OK, so let me start off by saying I’m giving it three stars only because it’s a pain in the ass to put together. At least for now. I’ve got a roof cage coming in a few days and I’m going camping in a few weeks. I’ll update this post after that.. With these universal cross bars, you have to assemble the bracket that attaches it to your car, it comes with eight brackets two different styles for a total of four of each style. You have to find the one that works best with your roof and your vehicle and your door. If I use the one in the picture in the instructions, I can’t get it tight enough and it just slips off. The plastic looks shoddy, and it came with some serious rough edges and a face only a mother could love, but I didn’t get them to be pretty, I got them to do a job and only paid $70 for them to do that, so if they work, then that’s a win. Update: 60 days later, the cross bars are holding strong. I have left them on the entire time. They are loud. The cage that I was gonna put on them came, it does cut back on the noise of the cross bars significantly. The cross bars have remained justice tight. They held it up under the weight of all my abnormally, large camping gear, cots, the tent, canopy, etc. Between the crossbar’s weight limit and the cages weight limit I did not exceed what I estimate to be 150 pounds max. And I drove cautiously because it’s not attached to the frame. Be smart not stupid. ... show more

  • Surviced 2000 mile trip !!!
My car didn't come with factory railings and the brand name aftermarket ones are just way too much for me. These work perfectly. Used it on a 2000 mile 1 week road trip. Kept my roof cargo in place. So long as it's mounted correctly, it stays. I'm a bit parranoid about securing things and I shook this to see if i can dislodge from the car and it did not. Also, it has a lock !!! ... show more
