  • The good, the bad, and the ugly and an update.
Size: Built-in WiFi + Bluetooth + Door sensor Color: Black with Satin Nickel
I wanted to replace my old deadbolt on my garage door to the house. Being that many times we come in that way from shopping, just using a finger print or a code to open the door seemed like a great idea. I reviewed all the options using Amazon shopping. For me I wanted a strong lock that would hold up to frequent use or attempted forced entry. BE AWARE there is a classification for locks. They are graded from level 1 to 3. A grade of 3 is residential lock that has adequate strength. A grade of 2 is a better choice for residential use and a grade of 1 is the best being of commercial grade. This lock is a grade 1, the main reason I chose it as well as good reviews. Shipped and received within 48 hours in sealed box marked new. All parts were present and so I proceeded to review the videos on installation. IMPORTANT: if you have a steel clad door like I have you will NOT be able to take advantage of one of the listed features of the lock. The lock has a feature where it will automatically lock after 30 seconds. Because my door is steel, the lock will not be able to tell if the door is ajar or in the closed position because it relies on a installed magnetic sensor that cannot be used on a steel door. Not a huge deal but I was not aware of this while shopping. So in replacing my old lock, I used all the new parts supplied with my new keyless lock. Read the instructions and watch the videos. They are worth it. So once installed, I got the app on my phone and started the setup process. All went well until I attempted to setup connection to WiFi. The lock needs a 2.4g network to work using WiFi. Both 2.4g and 5G are used within my network but I could not find a way to be selective. So three attempts to connect failed. Followed troubleshooting to no avail. So I called for service. After waiting 10 minutes, I was forced to leave a message, then went back to the app. Miraculously it had connected, I then setup the final part of the install. All went ok except when I added the app to my iPad. Signing into the app it did not fully recognize me and so what I had done on my phone was not being reflected on my iPad. Aggravated, I gave up. The other issue with the app is that there is no obvious way to add another user. So I have mixed feelings about this lock. The lock works well but THE APP NEEDS WORK! Bottom line……good hardware with weak software. Best of luck. Update 4-2-23. So after a few days with this bad boy I still remain unimpressed. Because of the 2.4 g internet requirement I used my wife’s phone which is not on 5G yet. My fiber internet does not make any distinction between 2.4g and 5g, and yet I have no problems with my home security system and exterior cameras that use only 2.4g. After establishing an internet connection, the very next day it lost it. WiFi Signal is very strong throughout my home so that isn’t the issue. Then the next blow was when I went to open the door with my finger. I tried and tried but ended up using my code. So I then redid my finger print setup, seemed to work well after that. My wife just came home about an hour ago. Her finger print read failed as well. So I tried mine again. It was Finally accepted after the 6th try. This does not inspire confidence. There were a couple firmware updates available. Thought that might help. The updates failed three times before I finally removed the batteries to do a power down reset. But then I had to re-establish the WiFi connection. Finally, the updates went through. I think you can get a sense of my frustration with this lock. Next lock issue it goes back for a refund. I need reliability when it comes to security. Update 4-15-23. The reliability of the finger print recognition is still sketchy. I was really hoping the finger print recognition would improve (does the lock learn). Another issue I find bothersome is the inability to have the my steel door utilize the door ajar feature that would detect and prevent the lock from auto locking. Still on the fence about this lock and returning it. ... show more

  • Just installed, seems solid
Size: Built-in WiFi + Bluetooth + Door sensor Color: Black with Satin Nickel
So it's April 27, 2023 and I just received the lock in the mail today and installed it. Read the instructions all the way through and then go on youtube and search the name of this lock to watch the video installation instructions. Before you buy this lock make sure your door is compatible, watch the youtube video or look at the description to make sure you're not buying something that won't work. My install was a little tougher, I removed my old door knob/strike plate and installed this but the deadbolt wouldn't extend all the way into the door frame. It's critical that there is no friction and everything is smooth for any smart locks you buy. If not, the internal motor will struggle to lock the deadbolt causing failures and poor battery life. So I had to bust out the drill and widen the hole in my door frame to get it to fit perfectly without any obstruction. Once the deadbolt locked and was buttery smooth in closing I finished the install. I downloaded the app onto my Note 9 Android phone and set it up and connected the lock to WiFi. I added everyone in my household that will be using it, fingerprint and code. No issues with the app so far, it added everyone in and all our codes/fingerprints are working. I setup the door sensor as well that came with this, it's like a magnet and you screw/stick it onto the doorframe and it allows the lock to know if the door is opened or closed. That seemed to work fine after testing it and I set it up to lock the door automatically after the door has been closed for 5 minutes. I also bought the special lithium double A batteries that Ultraloq sells for their locks that is suppose to give it longer battery life. So far everything is working and I'm happy with it. My only concerns are some of the people on here that left reviews that mentioned their lock dying after a year or two once it's out of warranty so hopefully nothing happens to mine. Also, the fact that WiFi is built into the lock makes me wonder just how fast it's going to chew through batteries. WiFi can guzzle through battery power, the smart locks I've installed/used in the past did not have WiFi and were just basic electronic code locks that lasted 6 months to 1 year on batteries. If this thing only lasts 3 months or so before the batteries have to be replaced, I'll be disappointed. I did see an option in the app to turn off WiFi if you want and it does say it will double your battery life if you do disable it. I like being able to access the lock remotely on my phone so I'll leave WiFi on for now but we'll see how long the batteries go for. If I have any issues I'll come back to update this review. If the battery life turns out to be terrible I'll update this as well. I'm hoping for at least 4 to 5 months of battery life hopefully. ... show more
