This device has lots of excellent features. This smart deadbolt REQUIRES access to the internet to function. That is how most of the smart features work. The built in keyless entry and password options and others use your home network and the internet to provide you the services. Especially access to Siri, Alexa, and Google. This smart deadbolt is built right into the Apple Home App. Add a Homepod, Apple TV or an Ipad as a home hub and this enables you to access the automation and remote control with Siri. You can lock, unlock, share your ekey or access code with your family, guests or service people to grant them access to your home. You can control their access by time period, and you can have up to 50 codes/ekeys under this system's management. That's pretty powerful access control. You can view lock history, receive real time notifications when paired to the U-Home app and connected to a 2.4G WiFi network. Connect to your existing home WiFi and you need no extra hub, saving money. This device can work with Alexa, Apple Home, voice control with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. You can automate your home by pairing with multiple home automation products, gaining impressive power over your home environment. You can use process automation to have lights turned on automatically turn on lights, making it safer for you to enter your home. As an example, this lock can automatically lock your door if the door closes (and has a door sensor), then unlock automatically when you arrive home with a smartphone in your pocket. Pretty slick, eh? 8 double A batteries power the lock for up to one year. The exterior portions of the system are protected to IP65 weatherproofing to protect the lock from environmental hassles like rain, heat and cold. If you're an Apple household, this is the lock to get. Being able to unlock the deadbolt via your Apple Watch or iPhone is wonderful. Also nice: The lock connects to your WiFi network without the need to install a separate hub. You'll have almost too many options to unlock the door: Summon Siri, press your fingerprint, punch in a code number, use an Apple device, or (gasp) go old school and just use a physical key (which you might need if the locks 8 AA batteries die). Even nicer: The lock can sense your phone or watch and automatically unlock itself. Just think: Thieves no longer will have to sever your finger to get access using your fingerprint. They can just take your watch. Ah, true progress indeed. Meanwhile, the door can auto lock once you're inside. You'll also get notifications to your phone and watch so you know when the door opens and closes, even when it's been left ajar. One thing to note: Many homes have two locks on exterior entry doors, one as the doorknob and one as the deadbolt, and home owners probably have the locks keyed so the same key opens both locks. This smart lock is just for the deadbolt. So if you like to use physical keys, you'll now have a separate one for the deadbolt. And no matter how smart the deadbolt lock is, you'll still need your physical key for the main doorknob lock. Notice how the photos for this product cleverly show doors with only a smart deadbolt. No doorknob locks! If you hunt online to see what others are doing to address this, many are simply removing their doorknob locks and replacing with a standard unlockable "passage" knob, which is what you see in the photos for this smart lock. For now, I'm leaving my keyed doorknob and seeing how much of an annoyance it is. Seems more secure to have it, or at least, it offers the illusion of security. I got this ULTRALOQ smart lock to replace a different one that would need new batteries after only 3 or 4 lock/unlock cycles. So far so good. Installation was easy, taking only 30 minutes including removing the old lock and programming the new one. The instructions were very well written, and the only inconsistency found was with the screws and plate going into the door frame where things didn't match up. I just kept the existing plate since it has extra long security screws. I also ended up reusing the screws for attaching the bolt to the door since the old screws were longer and stronger. Other than that, this lock feels solid and well made. The single green LED on the inside could be improved if it changed color to indicate a low battery level, which is only visible on the keypad outside. I'm using this smart lock in standalone mode since I don't need all the functionality the smart phone app provides, or the inherent security risks. The fingerprint reader is very convenient to use, and it's nice knowing you have a key pad and physical key as backups when a print can't be read. We programmed both left and right thumbprints in case one hand isn't free. Unfortunately, to remove a user in standalone mode the smart lock has to be reset, which removes all codes and fingerprints. Reprogramming the codes isn't too bad, but getting everyone else's fingerprints programmed back in can be a hassle. Overall this is a very nice smart lock. Highly recommended! ... show more
