The product is a great concept and with some time sharpening it, it's gets the job done. It's important to mount it to a solid surface when using or the whole thing is liable to flip over and hurt someone. Because this splitter is cast iron it does take a bit of work to get it sharp. And then some more work to get it to split. It is safer to swing a hammer than a hatchet or axe, but I think the old fashioned way still wins in efficiency and production. This item isn't horrible and is worth giving a shot. It comes with all hardware to assemble, wood carrying bag, and gloves. All you need is some wood.

This thing is so dull it doesn't split anything. I have oak logs that have been drying for literally years and they just bounce. I would return it, but I bought it too long ago.

Unfortunately, when I received this item it was missing the 4 screws that hold it together and the 4 screws to mount it. It also did not have the storage bag that is included on the photos. Luckily, I was able to go to the local hardware store to get the screws I needed. Otherwise, the item itself seems to be made well. It is heavy and once put together, seems very sturdy. Was really disappointed that all items were not in package.

Mounted this to a stump and was using it to cut smaller pieces for starter logs in my fireplace. On my 4th log, swung the hammer and slipped off the corner of the log just a bit and hit the top of the frame. Sheared off one of the bottom assembly bolts, now it wiggles around even though it’s securely mounted to the stump. Broken on day one.
