  • Slim and efficient
I wanted something simple and affordable to make my morning latte. I did not want the complication of grinding beans but I wanted a more upgraded milk brother. This fit the bill perfectly. I also dont have a lot of counter space so the slim design was a definite winner.

  • Good espresso maker!
I love coffee but never really got into espresso’s mainly because it’s such a small amount of coffee hahaha. However so many people love it so I had to try this out. Let me tell you, now I know why so many people love it. This brews a really nice cup of coffee. You will want to play around with the brew time to find your preference but it’s easy to do. Just press and hold either the one or two cup button for a few seconds. It will start brewing. When it’s reached your desired amount press the button again and it will be saved. It’s easy to use but the instructions are in broken English. This can make it difficult to understand. One important thing though is air in the machine. If you ran it out of water you will need to prime the machine. You need to do it before first use as well. It’s simple just run the hot water for a few seconds from the steam wand. This is important and it really should be in big letters on the manual or the sticker. However it’s not. I love that it’s small and fits on my coffee station without take much space. It looks great and fits well with my appliances. It’s light weight so two hands are required. You will need to hold the machine when inserting the portafilter. The portafilter comes with two baskets. A one cup and a two cup. The tamper however is extremely cheap. You can’t press down really hard. I’m actually afraid it’s going to snap and I’m going to get stabbed by it. So I highly recommend finding a better one. Unfortunately the portafilter is small so my other tamper doesn’t fit. You will want one with a diameter of 2 inches. Otherwise it’s a nice machine. Does as intended and a good price. ... show more

  • Decent budget machine. Poor instructions.
Let me start by saying that I have been using a manual espresso setup (NeoFlex) for over a year, so I understand espresso. Burr grinder settings, roast dates, puck preparation, shot times, water ratios. I have experience with these things. I got this machine because I wanted to try something a bit more automated for quicker afternoon shots, and the ability to pull a double AND create a nice microfoam with an actual milk steamer was tempting. After the recommended water flushing of the system, and then preheating, I ground some fresh beans from my local roaster, and here's where the problems came in. The instructions seem to not know whether it's a regular coffee or an espresso machine. 1) There are NO measurements for dosing or output anywhere in the instruction packet, either in metric or imperial. A sticker on the side of the machine says it recommends "medium ground" coffee for this machine, but that's regular coffee. Espresso requires fine ground. 2) The directions for making coffee say "a spoon ground coffee power (powder?!) can make about a cup". A cup as in a single SHOT? Or a cup like a regular cup of coffee (6-8 oz?) Although it did provide the spoon, it's unclear how many grams of beans should be ground to make a spoonful. I tried a typical 12g and found that did not fit into the single basket no matter how much I compressed the puck. So I put the 12 grams into the larger double-shot basket and pulled a single shot. Luckily, the amount of water that came out was comparable to a single shot of espresso (and not a full mug of regular coffee) so in that it seems to know that it's an espresso machine. Overall functionality: Once I transferred the coffee into the larger basket and prepped the portafilter, the shot pulled nicely. A bit under-extracted, but that might have been due to my letting the system cool while I figured out the dosing and filter stuff above. I will say that it pulled a decent shot with decent crema. Overall, the machine is very nice looking in stainless steel, and low profile enough that it doesn't take up much counterspace at all. I also appreciate the cup warmer at the top. Downsides: The steamer wand is low to the counter, making it hard to get a steamer pitcher under there and move it up and down as needed to make a microfoam, but if you have a small enough pitcher, it does steam well. The plastic tamper (on the other end of the spoon) is absolute crap though. The plastic is too weak to press solidly on, and so static-charged that it pulls hunks out of the puck when you remove it. Anyone who makes espresso knows that bad puck prep makes bad shots. Also, there is no dosing funnel for the portafilter baskets, making it hard to get the ground coffee exactly into the basket without spilling it over. I just put paper below it, leveled the coffee with a couple of taps on the counter, and then funneled the rest of the spilled coffee into the basket at the end. Big picture: It seems to be a machine for people who want to make a (pseudo?) espresso out of regular beans. If that's what you want, this machine is perfect for you. Just scoop your regular coffee, and go. On the other hand, if you want real espresso, this machine DOES have the heating elements and pressure bars to do that, but just know that it's going to require some experimentation with grind settings and dosing, investing in a 51mm dosing funnel and a better puck tamper, and a short milk pitcher. ... show more
