Purchased one of these lanterns several years ago and it works flawlessly to this day. So I purchased 3 more, one for myself and two for a friend. Noticed something was different with the supplied candles as they were squared off on two sides. Thought perhaps a change had been made in manufacturing or third party supplier. Assembled lantern as per instructions the same way I have with my older model dozens of times. Everything seemed to function normally, springs working fine. Unfortunately once the candles were lit the flaw in the candle design resulted in catastrophic failure. The flattened sides on the candles allowed melted wax to pour down into the spring chamber causing the springs to seize. As the candle melted down inside the spring chamber it created even more heat accelerating the melting process compounding the problem. Within minutes all three candles had melted down half way and filled the base with wax. It took a good hour of work to get the remaining candle stubs out and mess cleaned up. I have a stockpile of original replacement candles (no squared sides) and I will try them in the new lantern. Hopefully this solves the problem. If not the lantern will have been a complete waste of time and money. At least I have the original unit from years ago which has never failed me. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to resupply with original candles as I have noticed in the reviews for the refills that they are the same misshapen candles as I got with this order. Too bad that a great product gets ruined by unnecessary cost cutting and poor quality control. ... show more

Quick and easy review and I dont do many. If company responds I will change depending on outcome. Very, very unsafe. Candles dont feed properly and leaks wax everywhere. And photos for it to include a finger now covered in silvadene. I'm an idiot, so I've been testing all 3 UCO 3 candle chandeliers and 2 singles. Singles are fine for now. But waiting on adding a new candle before review. Chandeliers are 0 for 3. At least one candle doesn't burn properly and oozes wax everywhere. Failure........ look at what dripped on the sink. Yes testing over a sink if that tells you anything.... ... show more

    • It's a high maintenance candle lantern.

I bought this for power outages and maybe camping use. I am an experienced camper not so much with candles. You can't beat candle light for warm light and relaxing glow. LED head lamp can easily beat it for convince and maintenance. I burned through the first 3 included candles to see how long and well it works. The candles are rated at 9 hours and I got over 11 out of them. That was before they self destructed and melted into the bottom of the lantern. I then realized you are supposed to change the candle about the time it disappears above the site window. If you don't..... you will regret it. If the candle gets hot enough to melt or the candle jams in the holder it will melt and drip all over the place. This will jam the tube if it hardens and make disassembly difficult (near impossible). The mess can be remedied by dropping the parts into boiling water. Don't use your good pan for this or do it anywhere you don't want wax on (hint- do it outside). The melted wax will spray everywhere from the boiling water. Surfaces with hardened wax film can be cleaned with Lamp Oil or Liquid Paraffin on a paper towel. You will also need to wipe the remaining wax film off the parts after removing from the boiling water. Do this while it is still warm enough to keep the wax liquid. It is a thorough pain to clean after a meltdown. If you try to recover the wet wax make sure you desiccate it thoroughly. I was using the candles inside at 77F. The candles softened significantly. The single lantern I got at the same time burned 12.5 hours and didn't meltdown. Two of the three candles in the candelier melted down on me after about 12 hours. One jammed and burned into the holder; the other turned to liquid when it got near the top. I find this missing important maintenance information very distressing. The Made in China logo is disappointing. The specialty sized candles are a bit expensive; especially the beeswax ones. The three candles will heat water to around 150F in a small pot. I was able melt wax from a different candle holder easily. I am guessing the candles are best to limit use to 4 hours or less at a time. Overall, I'm not impressed and not disappointed enough to send it back. The candelier will do as I intended as light for common areas in the house for a power outage. It is still useful now that I understand its limitations. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Impressive candle lantern, puts out a lot of heat I was able to boil 1 cup of water in about 30 min, and when coupled with a Seebeck Effect fan, this makes a great tent heating option for the winter I wasn't sure a Seebeck Effect fan would work, but this lantern has no problem running the fan at full speed, you can even hear the wind noise from the fan in the video ... show more

This lantern is amazing at heating up a van or vehicle when car camping. It won't keep you warm if the temps are below 40 degrees F, but it definitely takes the chill out of the air on cool nights. The top gets hot enough to boil water for tea, so yeah - it puts out some heat. The candles are expensive, but there are YouTube hacks for making your own. Easier and cheaper to buy them unless you use it daily tho. No odor, no smoke, just light, and heat. Highly recommend. ... show more
