  • It lasted 5 years.
It lasted five years. I am disappointed it had such a short service life for the price. I expected more, especially for the price.

  • Great switch but not required
Unifi equipment is top notch. Nothing more needs to be said. Easy adopt and simply works. That all said they are not required to have if you have other unifi equipment. And over kill if you don’t have a unifi ap or cloud key.

  • Loud Fan
Works well, runs fairly cool. With only 30W of POE power being drawn total, the fan duty cycle is about 50%. But when the fan is on, it is loud. Way louder than a desktop tower PC. I have it up high in a broom closet behind a slatted door, and you can hear it down the hallway. Not objectionable at that distance, but it is quite noticeable. Unfortunately, there aren't many options to get a fanless POE switch. If quiet operation is important, the best other one I've found is this 16 port switch, 8 port are POE and 80W total power output, unmanaged. As you can see, quite a different bundle of specs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GECC11O Nov 2019 update: Ubiquiti just started selling a 120W, 24 port POE switch (16 ports POE powered), fanless. It is a nice upgrade from the 16 port, 150W switch that I had bought. POE power isn’t as high but these days, equipment uses less and less power so 120W should be OK for many use cases. As I write this, it is only available for purchase from Ubiquit website, but maybe will show up on Amazon at some point. ... show more

  • As fantastic as all other Ubiquiti Unifi products
Someone introduced me to UniFi access points a few months ago and I went nuts and ended up buying two UniFi PRO APs, the UniFi Security Gateway, and two UniFi POE switches (including this 16-port model that I am reviewing). It was found, automatically updated, and adopted into my network without me doing a thing except connecting the wires. I run the UniFi controller software on a Raspberry Pi (try it!) instead of using a cloud key. Everything just works so wonderfully and I never have any issues with any of the hardware from Ubiquiti. BIG FAN! This switch doesn't get as warm as I was expecting it to, but I still have it in a cabinet with fans, of course. It is quiet and the POE+ gives me the flexibility of connecting POE devices when needed, like the UniFi APs and another 8-port switch. It's well-built and comes with mounting hardware. Love it. ... show more

  • PoE drops out - see other negative reviews - this switch has a serious and unresolved design defect
I've had this switch for almost two years. Several times each week several of the ports cause the attached devices to lose their connection to the switch. For me this occurs on most (but not all) of the PoE ports and on some of the non-PoE ports. Weird. This is especially a problem with the Unifi APs, since they continue to emit an RF signal and don't indicate they've lost connectivity with the network. So devices attach to the non-functioning APs and thus lose network connectivity altogether even if a signal is available from a still-functioning nearby AP. (Bizarrely, one of my three Unifi APs doesn't have this issue. The other two do, as does an Apple Airport Express that's attached to a non-PoE port.) It also doesn't seem to affect ethernet-only devices (non-AP devices connected to Ethernet). I spent almost $1000 to set up a solid home network to replace my old network, powered by a generic switch and 6 Apple Airport Express units. I've been holding on, re-setting each of the APs several times a week, hoping Unifi would come out with a fix. No dice. Obviously, this company doesn't care. There's another issue if you have residential Verizon FiOS service: in order to manage the network using the Unifi security gateway and cloud key you must double NAT from the Verizon network termination. Apparently some people have done this successfully, but I spent two full days trying to make this work without success. Verizon was responsive enough to get tier 2 support on the line with me twice for more than an hour each time, but even then, and after reading through all the forum threads, we couldn't make it work. So - after almost $1000k spent, and many hours, I have none of the network setup/management functionality I was upgrading to get. And I have to walk around the house 2-3 times a week and reboot three different APs. I can't evaluate the other Unifi products I bought because I can't use the security gateway or cloud key. And I can't evaluate whether the APs have their own issues independent of the problem with the switch, because the switch is so defective. Highly recommend almost any other switch. I've never had any sort of problem with any switch, as they are simple, dumb devices. Please read the other negative reviews and the forums (other negative reviews link to the forums). This issue is real, and a real headache. A terrible waste of time and money. ... show more

  • If you are willing to manage through Unifi, this is a good switch to get
Great device to implement when you need a mix of active and passive PoE. If you are considering this no doubt you are already familiar with configuration via Unifi. In my case I am using it for several of the devices offered by Ubiquiti which include a few cameras, an access point, and the unifi cloud key. Once configured, all work as expected without issue. The Active PoE is configured by default and any at/af devices will simply request an appropriate configuration and off you go. The passive PoE does have to be manually configured for the ports you intend to use it on. I failed to realize that this is not intelligently delivered power and long story short put 24V on my tongue while working on one of the camera installations. This unit does have fans in it, they appear to always kick on at 70C. Not overly loud, especially with the door closed. I expect with proper ventilation (mine is in a large closet) you may not ever hear them. I intend to finish pairing this with a regular 24 port Unifi switch to handle other non PoE connections since this is way more expensive per port. ... show more
