  • Excellent budget metal detector with pro features, big detector coil
The Hazlewolke TX-850 PRO is considered a budget-grade metal detector, but mimics many professional-grade features. It delivers stable, accurate performance and works well for both serious hobbyists and new prospectors looking for something capable and easy to use. Ground balance is one of its best features. Both manual and automatic modes do a great job filtering out false signals from mineralized soil. I live in an area with very rocky terrain, so false signals are frequent and often. This detector does a fantastic job at providing options and adjustments that help reduce false positives. The 13-inch waterproof double-D coil offers excellent coverage and depth, and it performs well. It is an actual all-terrain setup that stays consistent in varying ground conditions. The TX-850 PRO operates at 19.23 kHz, which makes it particularly good at picking up small, low-conductivity targets like gold, coins, and relics. The three detection modes, All Metal, Discrimination, and Pinpoint, make it easy to switch between wide searching, selective filtering, or precise target location. Sensitivity is high without being unstable, and target responses are quick. At 3.5 pounds, it is light enough for long hunts without fatigue. The adjustable shaft and armrest make it easy to get a comfortable fit, and the detector collapses to a compact size for travel or storage. The simple knob controls are intuitive and make it approachable for beginners, but the performance is strong enough to satisfy experienced users as well. Also, it comes with a shovel and 3.5mm jack headphones, which is an added plus. I also have the Hazelwolke Jungler1031 detector, which is a much cheaper version that is oriented for absolute beginners, and I have to say that the difference between this one and the Jungler is like night and day. The only difference is that the Jungler has many options that help guide beginners; however, it has less fidelity and fewer adjustments. So spending the extra money makes it worth it for the TX-850. My only complaint about this one is that you have to collapse and remove the screen control to store it in the provided bag. The provided bag is cheaply made and barely closes, even with the detector disassembled. It’s a minor complaint; however, if you find yourself using it a lot, you’d probably want to invest in a better bag. Overall, the TX-850 PRO offers excellent value for its build quality and performance. It is sensitive, accurate, and well-balanced in the hand. ... show more

  • Good entry level detector!
This is my first metal detector, and I'm just a beginner hobbyist. This seems like a good entry level metal detector. I like that it has settings for different terrains. It seems to accurately detect metals of different kinds too. Pretty cool! The metal detector is easy to assemble. It has a large coil that can cover a good amount of area. It's lightweight, and it doesn't take a lot of strength to hold for a few periods. This makes the hobby more accessible to people of all types. It's height adjustable too. It would be good for older children, but I would say it's too tall for small children. It is also good at keeping people active. Before long, you've taken a walk. This detector can find even small pieces of gold or other metals. You never know what you might find. Did they really bury that money under the old oak tree? Well, now you can see if the legends are true without having to dig up the whole tree. This metal detector seems like it's good quality. I like the display and all the different features. You can really hone in your preferences. There are a few accessories included too. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fairly priced and fairly featured metal detector. I can go out looking for that screw I dropped in the grass. I'll find it one day! ... show more

  • Looking for the lost Dutchman mine
My wife and I thoroughly enjoy going out and using our metal detector in a variety of terrains. Lately we have had our nephew who is in his early teens go out with us so we decided to look for a good metal detector that wasn't super expensive but was well made and that could do the job when we came across this Hazlewolke TX-850 Pro Metal Detector and we thought it would be an ideal beginner metal detector for him to learn on. This is far from just a beginner metal detector. I would classify it more as a mid-range detector that will do the job quite nicely. The sensitivity is excellent on it and one thing that I noticed on it was that you don't get a lot of false positives from it which is a huge plus. It was easy to assemble and somewhat disassemble when done using. It comes with a storage bag that is okay but could be better as you do have to disassemble the screen when putting away. My nephew is somewhat tall for his age so it's nice that this detector can be adjusted for the size of the person. It is pretty light in weight so carrying it around for hours on end is not stressful. It does a very good job of disseminating the different metals that you run across. We were surprised that on our first outing we came across a woman's gold wedding band. It wasn't anything expensive, but it was gold and the system identified it accordingly. If you're looking to get into metal detecting this is an outstanding unit and by the way, my nephew loved it and can't wait to come back over and use it again. ... show more
