This desk lamp is awesome! Got it to replace an old clip light with an incandescent bulb that hurt my eyes. This lamp is so great, doesn't take up much desk space and the gooseneck makes it infinitely adjustable. It easily dims or brightens, depending on the conditions needed, and it has three settings of different tones of light- comes in really handy for daytime versus night time. I'm fairly analog, so it feels so futuristic because I can control everything with a swipe of my finger! If you turn it off at a certain brightness when you turn it on it'll stay at the same brightness. I highly recommend giving a quick read to the instructions that came with it , if I didn't I wouldn't have known about these cool features. This lamp is a real game-changer for me. I saved a boatload of money by buying this instead of installing a pendant lamp over my dining room table on my high, slanted ceiling. My decorative lamps are great for dining, but not for reading, writing or crafting. This little lamp is elegantly unobtrusive & doesn't clash with my decor, but is highly functional when I need extra light, day or night. I've had a number of these switch-less, knob-less single-color puzzlers that, surprise, actually work and are practical enough to do stuff. Most, at least in my experience, have been battery-powered novelties, good enough to entertain for a couple of weeks after which I move to something more commong\, plain and practical. When I didn't see the power adapter coming out of the multi-package big box, I thought "Uh-O, another battery-operated gizmo, or ultimately unsatisfying non-keeper! But this one does have a power adapter. Just don't be too hasty about operating it before learning and locating its 2 types of settings. The first is "temperature"--consisting of 3 settings which require you to press and hold down the little red light that's farthest to the left in the recessed "tray" toward the fron ot the base. Do that 3 times, each time bringing up a different setting. My hunch is that most people would do fine with one--the "coolest" and brightest setting--rather than the two warmer settings with slightly less illumination. The next step is to locate and try out the 7 brightness settings. They're in the same recessed tray--7 illuminated red dots (supplementing the temperature red dot for a total of 8 settings. Most people, I suspect, will simply place an index finger in the tray and slide it all the way to the right. That gesture is really no more nor less effort than pushing a brightness switch to its highest level. That's all there is to it! The lamp is lean and mean--sleek yet heavy in the right places with a tough goose neck without any chinks. I don't think the light is as bright and dependable as the Verilux that is my usual first choice. But it was a quarter of the price, and it offers more portability for carrying it to different beds and tables. The instruction (called a "Welcome Guide") really don't say much except for a lot of "Don't's," which can largely be disregarded. But one is noteworthy: it says, simply: "DO NOT DISSEMBLE OR TAMPER WITH THE LAMP OR ATTEMPT TO REPLACE ANY OF THE PARTS!" Frankly, I wish my last garbage disposal had included those directions. After working on it for 2 days, then trying to install 2 different, heavy Insinkerators (just lie down on your back, pinned down by your water pipes while holding in one hand the obscenely heavy disposal and a light in the other as you're praying it doesn't slip and crush your skull). (It slipped, and I dodged "just in time" (a Jule Styne tune). After working on that for 6 days I said "let there be light," and then this lamp appeared like a miracle (two days after I'd placed the order but earnly enough to save me from self-Insinkeration.) ... show more
