I like that this part is available to buy. However it would be nice to buy any piece of the mechanism or housing separately. The only thing wrong with my sprinkler was a crack from it freezing last winter. All I really needed was the bottom of the housing.

The orginal (old) gearboxes were tanks, if they got stuck the wheels would dig trenches in your lawn. These new gearboxes the gears are not nylon but look to be plastic. Any sort of snag and the teeth break right off. You would be better off going to garage sales and buy a 20 year old one that you can clean up and have it run forever. ... show more

This got my sprinkler working again. However, it was extremely difficult to take off the old "hub cap" and to hammer on the new one. I pried the old ones off with a lot of work, some frustrated language, and a large flat screwdriver. It caused a little damage to the wheels, but nothing fatal. To put on the new ones, I finally used a socket that just fit over the hubcap, and really wailed on the socket extension with a 20 oz. hammer. ... show more

Normally, something this simple shouldn't need instructions, however, the old wheels are to be used on the new transmission. Getting the axle caps off of the old transmission was extremely difficult. At first I threw them away, because all I needed was the old wheels. The new axle caps seemed identical to the original ones. When I tried to press them on, they both shattered like they were made of glass. I had to dig the old ones out of the trash and use them. Fortunately they weren't damaged in removal. Now I think instructions would have been nice. See the attached pic. I still don't know how long the plastic gears will last. ... show more
