    • Excellent doorbell with a few minor issues

I installed this by hardwiring it. The setup was easy for both the doorbell and its chime. It is working great. The video image is an ultra wide angle fisheye view. This means that people that are within say 10' are very clear but those that are further away appear quite small and when magnified lack clarity. This is fine for viewing people at your door but if you want to use this doorbell camera as a security camera for your yard it may not be the best choice. I have set up the doorbell for person and package detection and it works excellent for person and package detection. The one issue that I am having is that when I select "Doorbell Mode" in the Night Mode settings, which turns on the doorbell spotlight when the doorbell is pressed so that you can see a colored video of the person at your door, doesn't turn off automatically like it is supposed to when there isn't any motion detected. My D225 leaves doorbell spotlight on which disables the infrared LEDs. This compromises night motion detection. I have to go into the TP-Link app to turn it off by changing the night mode setting to "infrared Mode". I would like this to work without me having to manually turn it off. I am hoping that this is a software issue that can be fixed via an update. The doorbell on my house was installed several feet to the side of my door and there are 5 stairs leading up to the door. In order to get the camera to point in the right direction I had to use both of the included wedges. Unfortunately they weren't designed to be stackable. I got around this by gluing the two wedges together using Testors plastic cement. Overall I would recommend this doorbell camera. I would rate it at 4.5* because of the night mode issue mentioned above but gave it 5* because of its value and easy install. ... show more

    • A Reliable and Feature-Packed Video Doorbell

I own many TP-Link smart devices like Smart Cameras, Smart Plugs, etc. Like all other TP-Link Devices, this video doorbell exceeded my expectations. Connected the doorbell and the chime to the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M Wireless Access Point. Also configured Tapo H100 Smart Hub with Chime to use with Tapo D225. Used the video doorbell in battery-only mode for a few days, till the battery level reached 65%. When hardwired with a compatible transformer, the battery started charging again until the battery level reached 81%. That means, in always-on mode, the device would stop charging the battery at 80-81% to preserve the battery's health. When operated in battery-only mode, it takes a few seconds to wake up till it detects motion and so, we may miss some sequence of events. In Always On mode, TP-Link D225 shows instant notifications from the moment someone enters the gate to pressing the doorbell and leaving the place. If subscribed to optional cloud storage, it even notifies you with images of the person/events, ie., through the "Rich Notification" feature. The doorbell must be wired to enable continuous recording. You can enable continuous recording by going to 'Storage & Recording' and editing the recording schedule. Nonetheless, I didn't enable 24x7 recording in Always On mode and only opted for the default detection recording. I found no events missing with detection recording in Always On mode. Though TP-Link D225 does not support 5Ghz wifi, the Tapo app is smooth and quickly loads live and recorded videos. The phone rings instantly when the doorbell button is pressed. Its notifications are impeccably fast and instantaneous. The Tapo app has many advanced features like privacy mode, schedule notifications, set detection zones, and specify the type of alerts to receive, etc. I received a few false motion/person detection alerts. To resolve this issue, I scrolled through the Playback & Download, selected falsely notified videos one by one and corrected the event type as no events, motion detection, person detection, etc. Now, the alerts for people, vehicles, etc., are accurate. ... show more
