I’ve used multiple Wemos and Amazon nonames and this was the easiest setup BY FAR. Downloaded the app, and it literally took one minute to both discover the plug and add it to my home network. I don’t want to use Alexa or Siri or Google, and I don’t have or want to get a hub. I just want a simple app where I can set a schedule and forget about it. This is it! A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a different brand of this same style smart wi-fi plug. I unpacked them, installed the app on my phone, and then tried to set them up. It took 10 minutes to get one of them to connect to my network and, after nearly 30 minutes, could never get the other one to connect. I gave up, boxed them back up, and returned them. I then ordered this Tapo brand from TP-Link. What a difference! I had all four set up in less than 10 minutes. It was flawless. I swear it could not have been easier. I can't speak for their dependability yet or whether they'll be flaky or not if moved around. However, the set up was an absolute dream. If all technical products were like this and were so easy to use, the world would be a better place. ... show more

I wanted smart plugs for my Christmas tree this year. Normally we have to plug and unplug the three to turn the lights on and off. Sometimes my kids and I forget to unplug the tree at night or we don't think to plug it in at all. I figured smart plugs would be a solution for automating the lights and I was right. The Tapo Smart Plugs come four in a box. I only needed 2 for my tree (lights and star) so I have two left to use for other appliances. They are super easy to set up. You download the Tapo app and it guides you step by step. The plugs connected easily to my wifi and began working immediately. I've had other smart products that took forever to connect to the wifi, and you have to do the setup process a million times before it finally works. These plugs worked from the first time! In the app, you have several options. You can create a schedule for when things turn on and off automatically. You can name each plug. You can alo assign the plug to a room in your home. They are compatible with Google Home and Alexa. By linking them to your Google or Alexa accounts, you can control them from their apps as well. Maybe I should have known this before buying, but I figured TP-link would be compatible with my existing tp-link smart devices. WRONG, a quick internet search shows tapo is a new tp-link platform that uses a 922MHz network, instead of just over Wi-Fi which explains why i could not add it to my TP-Link Kasa app. That said, when I downloaded the app and gave away my 1st born in terms and conditions, it was actually a pretty quick setup. I added my fist tapo plug in about 45 seconds including scanning, connection, naming. It of course updated firmware after that which took about a minute. I was kind of surprised how easy it went and then linking to Alexa skill was a 15 second process as well. I usually set up my devices centrally and then deploy them wherever they go. I had no issues connecting with them after plugging them back in around the house and garage as I plan to use one for outdoor holiday decorations on a GFI outlet. Overall I am satisfied, but still stumped that TPlink cannot make one app that works for both. Probably should be 5 stars, but i ma deducting one for the app incompatibility! While this is a review of a free or reduced price product, it is an honest review of the product, no different than if I purchased the item at full price. ... show more
