  • Switched from Netgear
I bought this router to replace my Netgear Nighthawk R7000 (AC1900) router which I had just bought in the first quarter of this year (2022). My house is 3400+ sq. ft. and I also bought the Netgear AX8 extender to reach all parts of my house. Even with all of this, the Netgear would drop connection constantly. Buffering was horrible. Constant router restarts and bouncing back and forth between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz just to get a solid connection. Many times, the 5Ghz was unusable. You would connect and just freeze. I read several reviews online regarding these issues (and the notoriously bad Netgear TS, which I experienced first hand) and decided that it was time to try another router to see if this was going to be the fix. BOY WAS IT!!!!! The TP Link router works like a dream. No disconnects. No resets. No jumping from one band to another. No changing channels, just plain and simple WiFi with no user intervention. Now I'll let you know, I have 7 Ring cameras, 3 Apple TV devices, 1 Amazon Fire stick, 3 Cell phones, 1 iPad, 8 laptops (2 Macbooks), 1 Server running Windows Server 2022 with Hyper-V hosting 3 Windows Servers, 3 Windows 10 clients and 1 CentOS client, 1 Server running Ubuntu Server 20.04, 1 NAS hosting movies and music for streaming (SMB, DLNA), 1 WiFi attached Washer and Dryer, 1 HP Printer, 1 Wifi attached double oven, 2 SONOS speakers, 2 WiFi thermostats, and 1 WiFi garage door opener. The TP Link handles all of this with no issues. I have a fiber ISP which is giving me 1 Gbps service. Netgear speed tests on this same service was never higher than 400Mbps in either direction. TP Link router is doing 900 Down and 720 up. I could not be happier with the difference in these two products. I did not re-attach the extender and TP Link is still servicing everything I have. I have tried to be in Netgear's corner, but these results do not lie. Not to mention there are 8 1Gbps ethernet ports on the back of this device which makes connecting devices directly to it no problem. I have not tried the USB port as of yet but if it performs like the rest of this router has then I'm sure that I'll have no problems. ... show more

  • High-performance gaming router with antivirus software
Had this router for a few years. We used to have multiple google routers to cover the entire house, but this thing pretty much covers everything, so we got rid of the other routers. Pros: -Very fast. The 5GHz networks are great for gaming. -Long range. This router uses a technology called beam forming, which extends the range by listening for signals in a particular direction using its multiple antennas. It covers almost my entire house, which used to require 2 or 3 routers in a mesh network. -Multiple bands. It has two 5Ghz bands and one 2.4Ghz band. Choose 2.4Ghz band for longer range, or 5Ghz band for higher speed. -Very reliable. I've used this for 5+ years and had very few issues with it. I think I've had to restart it two or three times maybe over the years. -It has an easy-to-use mobile app that gives you detailed info about the devices on your network and the wifi connection performance of each device. If you have an active internet connection, you can also control your router remotely and run an internet connection test. -It detects and blocks malicious activity on the network. If a device on your network is infected with a virus, the router will prevent it from infecting other devices. You also get a notification in the mobile app when this happens, so you can remove or clean the infected device. The antivirus service on the router gets free periodic updates. Cons: -The 2.4Ghz band can be disrupted by other appliances in your house, like microwaves and cordless phones. This is true of all routers that have a 2.4Ghz band. You can avoid this by using the 5Ghz bands. -It doesn't have a lot of slots for wired ethernet connections. If that's something you need, this might not be a good pick for your setup. ... show more

  • Works like a charm
Upgraded to this once my netgear R7000 died. Setup manually then added to the Tether app by tplink. I recommend doing the setup via browser for these small corrections. MAKE SURE to not run the speed test within the router settings, it does not work correctly and will hinder speeds. ALSO if you have WiFi or lan issues with speeds make sure to go into advanced-home care-QOS and manually set the bandwidth to your ISP speed that you are supposed to be getting. This will ensure the bandwidth is correctly set and you get full experience. Now to the Good - after doing all these small things. R7000 was firmware up to date and was barely getting 130mbps down and signal was shorty as best with disconnects, this router im getting over 500mbps on a 400mbps service plan. WiFi range was horrible with the R7000 even with a EX7300v2 extender and just with this router signal on all frequencies extend completely around the house and then some. Ping is always sub 30ms now vs anywhere from 40 to 120ms from the R7000 I had. I really didn’t need to but I also put in a RE700X extender and created the onemesh network. All in all took with me both units not even 10 minutes to setup and replace and sync. If you need antivirus and anti malware protection this has a lifetime subscription for the life of the hardware built into the router and does amazing. Also, the R7000 I had to reset multiple times a day to get it to use and pick up devices and I have yet to reset this router. If you are worried about resets you can schedule weekly, daily resets on its own which is awesome. The tether app has much more flexibility and use compared to the nighthawk app and I can in real time see what’s going on and fix vs the R7000. It’s definitely worth the money and if you do the small corrections I mentioned at the beginning you will solve the speed issues most people see. I love the fact I don’t have to setup via an app if I don’t want to and can setup via browser which I would recommend doing vs app. You can add to the app like I did after the fact. I can’t recommend this router enough. I’ll update once I have fiber installed with a 1GB connection which should be here soon. If you need a extender do the RE700X it’s working like a charm and no issues whatsoever and still use from the same tether app. ... show more

  • High End Router But Has Serious Issue
Recently purchased the TP-Link Archer AX11000 router for around $280 off Amazon (retail is $399). I just upgraded my internet service to Spectrum 1GB and after having issues with Spectrum's own router interfacing with my solar panels and car charger, I went all-out and bought this router. I really don't care whether it's a so-called "Gaming Router" or the goofy appearance, it's what it's supposed to deliver is what counts. Getting the router ready to go is easy - just pop on the 8 rather silly looking antennas, plug it in the wall, hook up whatever ethernet cables from the internet provider's modem to the router and from the router to devices like your desktop or anything else you want physically connected to the router and you're ready to set-up your network. It's an easy set-up and configure for my house, ethernet wired to my desktop, wireless connected to about a dozen wifi devices including tablets, Roku, solar and outside car charger all a piece of cake. I used primarily the web browser-based app to do the network set-up. I set up using the tri-band wifi option so I could better manage what devices are on what band (2.4G, 5G#1, 5G#2) versus the router's "smart connect" manager which allows the router to balance network/device demand and assign devices to the optimum band on it's own. The mobile tether app is a bit more of a simplified version of the browser app but there's a few curious things you can't do on the browser app that you can do on the Tether app such as change your networked device icons (you can rename devices on both apps). The overall wifi speed and coverage is excellent. I'm in a 3 bedroom house, single story and detached garage and get good coverage everywhere. Now I will address a significant drawback or flaw with this router. When I tested my internet service with the (Spectrum) modem directly plugged into my desktop via ethernet, I was getting at least 900-980 mps down/40mps up. When going through this router via ethernet connection to my desktop, I was getting 450-550 mps down/40 mps up... WTF? It turns out this router throttles speed based on what the app-based speed test shows for results. The problem is that the app-based speed test gives consistently vastly lower results then what your service provider is giving you. There is a partial fix for this issue which I'll relate here: You need to do a firmware check and upgrade if needed first. Then you must factory reset/reboot which clears all previous settings (if you've already installed this router on your network). Make sure there are NO saved speed test results in the Internet Speed Tes "History" tab - delete them if there are. Once you have the router up and running again after rebooting and it's hopefully connected via ethernet to a desktop or laptop, DO NOT do a speedtest from the TP-Link app. Instead, go to the "Advanced" tab on the top right of the web-based app, select "Homecare" from the menu on the right side of the page and click on "QOS." Where it says "Total Bandwidth" click on the icon to the right of the Download/Upload numbers and change the values to the max possible which would be 60.0 Mbps up / 2500.0 Mbps Down. And make sure you have "Set Manually" checked on the left of that box. Save your settings and continue setting up your network as needed. It goes without saying, use a good Cat. 6 or 7 ethernet cable between the modem and the router. You should see a significant uptick in speeds, especially if you have 1GB+ internet. However, the speed will STILL only average up to a couple hundred GBs (in my case about 780-820+MPs versus high 900s) with ethernet wired then what you'd get if your ISP's modem was plugged directly into your desktop/laptop. I can't impress enough - NEVER use the TP-Link's app speedtest. It is completely inaccurate. TP-Links online/phone customer service is useless and they ARE aware of this problem thanks to many complaints. For the price of this router, I expected a lot more. I'm going to spend some more time trying to get accurate speeds from my modem to my network but I am leaning towards returning this router. ... show more

  • Gamer review - great router. Instant speed boost and strong signal.
Got a big speed boost when switching from my old router wifi. Have noticed that I have a stronger signal in parts of the house I did not before. The setup was easy and the UI looks great. The only thing I have noticed that I don't like is that the power cable has a poor connection to the unit and can be wiggled out easily. A slight concern I have is that the cat may pull it free if she were to get caught on it. The unit works great though and I would strongly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their router. The unit is large and takes up some space but that is to be expected with a more premium router such as this. Side notes - This unit does have a metal backplate to ground ethernet ports. It comes with antivirus protection and VPN but they will slow down your connection and cause lag. The website blocker also blocked the in game store and newswire for some of my game apps. Best to keep them disabled for gaming. Could have great utility for parents. ... show more

  • Great WiFi 6 router. But not plug and play.
Tech background: Networking/IT & Cable industy. I've used multiple different routers and normally go with Netgear. But after doing some research and the price I tried TP-Link AX11000 - I've had this router for 2 months now and it's a great router. I have had no issues with it and haven't even needed to restart it since installing. - I have 18-20 devices connected with no issues. I've run 5-6 video streams simultaneously on different devices and had no buffering. - Across my entire house(1500sqft) I don't see less than 300-315Mbps on any 5ghz devices and 85-90Mbps on 2.4ghz usually. With avg. of 500Mbps on 5ghz and 120Mbps on 2.4ghz. Hardwire I get 933Mbps on my 1gig connection which is perfect due to network overhead. - Configuration settings are decent out of the box. But if you want the most bang for your buck then you will have to change some settings. - Web portal is easy to navigate if you do want to configure settings. - There are a alot of settings that can be tweaked to maximize security and utilization, more than any other resi router I've worked with. Make sure you change the QoS "Total Bandwidth" to get max speed out of the router. As the speed test in the GUI doesnt read right and will limit your bandwidth.(I have 1gig(1000Mbps) speed tier and out of box router was limiting me to 400Mbps) ... show more

  • Stay far far away from this router.
Thus router is not for anyone. Lockups, connections dropping constantly, loss of DHCP function and freezing up to the point you cannot log in to the router. I have had this unit for 3 years. The first year it was fairly reliable and performed normally. From the second year onward it was nothing but problems. For the price, it should last longer. It seems this was built to be a throwaway item, and that is exactly what is going to happen to this incredibly had piece of hardware. Caveat emptor.... you have been warned. ... show more

  • The range and speed are great The range and speed are great
So I have had this router for 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. Before this, I was using the xfinity XFi gateway (combo router and cable modem) and its horrible. Its supposed to be for the multigig 1.2gb speed and a direct connection using the 2.5gb eth port definitely works for that but everything else about it sucks. Poor wifi range and my wifi connections would only get 500mb speed if I was in the same room, much less outside the room. But with this router and just using the XFi in bridgemode (basically turning it into a normal cable modem), I am getting over 900mb wifi throughout my entire house. I even get good signal if I go into the building across the street. I see some people complain about the 2.4GHz band but honestly, I only use my smart light bulbs and wifi security cameras on that band and those don't show any problems. The support for link aggregated ports is a BIG plus. This helps me get my wired connection up to the max 1.2GB/s. And the router runs surprisingly cool, compared to the XFi gateway or even my older Asus router. There are only 2 cons I would give the router. I wish it had at least one 2.5GB/s speed port to go to a PC on my LAN. It only has the 2.5GB/s WAN port that connects to the cable modem, No OpenVPN client support. It does have VPN server support where IT can act like a VPN server but I want OpenVPN client support so I can connect to my NordVPN service. That was a HUGE plus for my old Asus router. We could easily flip the entire home internet to another country and watch France Netflix or Japan Netflix on all our TVs, with no issues. Can't do that with this TP-link router. ... show more
