The TC001 Max is the top dog of Topdon's mobile-based thermal lineup. Combining the thermal lens with a regular lens allows for more of an overlaid view of your surroundings vs. 100% thermal. This approach allows for more clarity and easier feature recognition when looking at the screen. Like their other mobile thermal solutions, this one plugs directly into your android or IOS device and just "works" without any connection hassles. It had a sleek, aluminum design that does a good job to protect the internal electronics from damage. If you're looking for a solid thermal solution that will fit in your pocket without breaking the bank, this is one of the better choices out there.

The thermal images are very useful for me. I love that after popping in the device, after confirming its use the app comes up by itself. As someone else also noted, there are clear alignment issues between the visual and thermal cameras - I don't know if that's a hardware/design or a software problem - the outlines are still helpful, but unnecessarily offset. Just like someone else noted, on occasion the app can go blank or freeze (at least on my iPad mini A17 Pro - maybe underpowered for this device..?), and unplugging/replugging the camera will fix that - fortunately that doesn't happen often. There is no native iPad version, which I think is a really strange miss. Portrait mode (holding phone sideways) also doesn't work quite as I would expect (the buttons don't rotate, but at least the temperatures do). Lidar sensors are apparently not supported, which would be helpful so one doesn't have to manually change the distance. I Overall, neat hardware with pretty much much plug and play experience and generally good results, but definitely some room for improvements on the app side.

I have used TopDon IR cameras with iPhone for number of years in my field investigation of structures. They have been very good and reliable. The Dual-Lens Max is exceptional and provide allow my clients to better understand what they "see" because of the ability to "overlay" an outline of the actual object of the IR image. The quality of the "overlay" image FAR exceeds what the discription states for both quality and adjustment. The value is much better than ANY other dual camera IR camera for quality of image and software ease of use. BEST Dual Camera IR camera at LOWEST price.

I picked up the TOPDON TC001 Max Dual-Lens Thermal Camera specifically because it was advertised as being useful for leak detection behind walls and around bathrooms. After testing it pretty extensively, I’d say it’s a good thermal camera for in your face thermal imaging, but there are some major limitations and quirks people should know before buying. One thing I do genuinely like is that it comes with a short USB-C extension cord/adapter that plugs into the female USB-C port on an iPad or iPhone. That actually adds a lot more maneuverability and flexibility when using the camera instead of having the thermal camera rigidly sticking straight out of the device. Small detail, but surprisingly useful when trying to angle the camera into tighter spots. First, there’s a strange issue with the app permissions. In order for the camera to work continuously, the app basically wants full access to your photos. If you don’t allow it, the camera feed stops working after about a minute. The image freezes/disappears and the only fix is to unplug the camera, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in again. That got old pretty fast. There’s also a noticeable alignment issue between the visual overlay image and the thermal image. On mine, there’s roughly a 3–6 inch discrepancy between the two layers. You can clearly see it in the photo with my dogs where the thermal and visible images don’t quite line up. Not a deal breaker, but definitely something to be aware of if you’re trying to pinpoint something accurately. Another thing: this camera does NOT seem to auto-detect ambient temperature. The default ambient setting was 30°C out of the box, and unless you manually adjust it yourself, your readings can be noticeably off. Same goes for object distance. You really need to manually configure how far away the target is for more accurate readings. So there’s more setup involved than the advertising suggests. I personally give it 3 stars mainly because the real time heat signature imaging with the visible image overlay is genuinely useful, even though it’s slightly off. Overall: Good for exposed/open thermal detection Real-time thermal overlay is useful and responsive Requires manual ambient temperature and distance adjustments Overlay alignment could be much better Odd app/photo permission behavior

Works pretty good so far. The whole outer housing is made of aluminum with the black side panel opposite from the dual cameras might be some type of hard plastic, but I can be wrong and it's also aluminum because that side panel is what clips on and holds the unit together and it does feel like aluminum but I have never heard of using aluminum to clip onto aluminum unless it has hard plastic tip pegs that catches onto slots on the other side. There are no outer screws to open up the device. Works as advertised so far. The technology is pretty good with options that are just there. I'm using it on my old Samsung Galaxy S8 and it burns through the battery pretty quick with the battery getting hot, the battery has a hard time holding a full charge to begin with. It works flawless using the extension usb-c adapter with the S8 equipt with the top of the line thick USG phone case of that time. I tried it on my Samsung Galaxy S24+ and it took off 3% of battery during the 15 minutes of playing around with it. It seems that you'll have to use the usb-c extension adapter if your phone has a case because both my phones kept trying to reconnect to the TOPDON without using the extension adapter. Pretty good so far for day one.
