Finally, a sensor toaster!! The only other one I could find is a vintage Sunbeam. I told my wife I'm going to order another as a backup. You get custom settings for several users and the ability to toast both slices to the same level or independently. Don't try to re-toast to a new darkness, you'll burn it or otherwise miss the mark. Just try another setting for next time and lock it in when you find your favorite, consistent so far for us using our fav settings from untoasted breads, etc.

Worked for a few uses and then stopped working, just outside Amazon’s return window. Will see if the seller will replace it. It was used maybe a dozen times. If this is typical, don’t waste your money.

If you're looking to buy a new toaster for yourself, or to gift one to someone else, you need to ask yourself what type of buyer you are. If all you want is a toaster that makes basic toast, then you should keep your investment in such an appliance to a minimum. But if you like to wow visitors to your home, to really impress them, this is undeniably the toaster you want to buy today. The moment your guests even see this toaster on your kitchen counter or island, they'll be impressed. It really does make a statement in your kitchen. There's nothing like it that they've seen before, not in anyone else's house or business. Of course, it's great that you have certain types of functions and features that you will never find in more commonplace toasters. Such as the ability to toast each slice of bread differently. So I can enjoy my toast a very light golden brown on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Our Daughter gets to enjoy hers borderline "burnt," and very crispy. Now we can actually make both at the same time. is it giftable? Absolutely. A few times I've ordered small kitchen appliances on Amazon, only to be underwhelmed by the packaging. Plain brown cardboard, nothing that looks as though it was plucked straight from a store shelf. This toaster comes in a very attractive store-display type box, still sealed and ready to gift at a moment's notice. Perfect for housewarming parties, wedding presents, someone moving into their first dorm room. Best of all, they'll think about you every time they use it. And it's a toaster, so you know they'll actually use it often. That can't hurt, right? Being remembered for giving someone a super-thoughtful gift. So whether you're ordering this for yourself, or as a present for someone else, you should definitely give it a tryout.

Sure, does a toaster have to be perfect? Well, no, but for $200 it should be pretty darn close. It's likely this particular model on this particular page is through a reseller but still. Hands down this is maybe the best looking toaster I've ever seen - the housing looks like it was made for a storm trooper and the touch screen reminds me of the display on some mid-to-late 2000s cell phones from well known brands - and thus it embodies the futuristic and the nostalgic. Doesn't get painfully hot to touch, and of course helps you out by lifting and lowering for you - thank you verrry much. The market is thick for smart toasters, but a true touchscreen? The Toasty is in a league of it's own. The on screen options are super easy to follow. I'm glad they didn't include a clock or calendar or anything silly like that. But, I'm not sure I see a visible difference between the smart and manual toasting in how it cooks. With that said, the reason for 4, instead of 5 stars is this thing is rather inconsistent with toasting results. It surely seems like each side (R and L) toasts differently even if set at the same level. Other than that, it just doesn't quite match the color you set it for. I could set it at about 1/4 of the scale and have to end up toasting twice, but set it at 1/2 and it's almost or is burnt. An oddity, though not completely, is that the box it came in smelled terrible. Kind of like mildew or something? Though I saw no obvious damage or concerning areas. Maybe mine is defective?

So, this isn't a cheap toaster, and there are lots of cheap toasters that work just fine. If you're happy with your cheap toaster, that's cool, so was I. I got this assuming that I would be underwhelmed, and I was surprised at how well it actually works. You just set the color you want the toast to come out and it automatically toasts it to that point using some sort of sensor (not entirely sure how it works, but you can see a little red light pointing through each slot that I assume has something to do with it.) Another small feature that shouldn't be great but is nice: The crumb tray pops out of the front of the toaster and comes all the way out, so it's super easy to just remove the tray to clean compared to every other toaster I've ever had. I'm not sure that I would have bought it for what it retails for, but it quickly replaced the perfectly good toaster I was using before, because it simply makes better toast. My only concern is that I hope that the components that raise and lower the toast last a long time, since it has no manual lever to bypass the motorized trays, but it's simple enough that hopefully that won't be a problem for years.
