I bought this to keep my 5th grader on track with her work while she does school virtually. It's a great size and the handle is nice to carry it from room to room. She easily sets the timer to keep track of reading and time on other activities. You can turn the sound on if your child needs an extra reminder or off if your child is sound-sensitive. She does sometimes move the timer to give herself more time for preferred activities, but that is not the timer's fault :) Update: Timer stopped working after about 1.5 years of use. I’ve had others for work that I bought before this one that are still going strong. Disappointing. I tried changing the battery several times and it just does not reliably run anymore. I purchased the 60 minute clock face since I'm used to an analog clock. As a senior it helps me stay focused on cooking times, getting dressed and ready to leave ON TIME! I can allot a certain amount of time on a task: reading, time on internet, talking on phone, time left for bedtime, leave for appointments. With the red dial I can tell how much time left without needing my eye glasses and the times-up buzzer can be off or set to varying loudness levels. The handle with built-in stand on this model makes it the perfect size for me to carrying room to room or outdoors, getting ready in bathroom, etc. I've used other versions when I was employed and supporting adults with special needs; it worked so very well for them and now it is helping me in my retired senior years. IT' RUNS ON ONE AA BATTERY and easy to pack for adventures! The black frame and red dial work the best for me and my eyesight. With the expanded product line with new styles Time Timers could be useful to any aged person. I needed a visual timer for activities lasting up to 5 minutes, and this was one of the few options I could find designed specifically for that purpose. Unlike larger visual timers, where one minute is only a tiny section of the timer, this model expands the full 5-minute range, making each minute much more visible and easier for children to understand.     • Not perfect, but worth the price
After getting a cheaper 'visual' timer that quickly broke, I ponied up the cash for this one. Pros: - NIce design. Good size, carrying handle is helpful for kids, timer face is protected by a plastic cover. Cons: - Feels a bit pricey for what it is (but I'll acknowledge their a small company trying to make it with a niche product) - On occasion, the timer does not move once set. A couple times this has happened due to low batteries and other times it has simply been random and just requires some fiddling. It doesn't happen that often, but because it's not easy to tell right away (visibly or audibly) when the timer is counting down, it makes it a little less dependable. Overall, it has been successful in helping our toddler to have a better grasp of time durations and help set expectations, so I consider it a worthwhile purchase. ... show more

It is, to me, a shame to join my voice with the other 1-star reviews, as in theory, this is a great product. However, it is now clear that it is entirely unreliable and the manufacturing likely lacks appropriate quality control. About 1-2 months into my using the Time Time 120 minute (infrequent use!), I began to notice that my tasks were feeling like they were taking a lot longer than the time I had allotted for them. Each time, I would look up, and lo and behold, there would be a reason for it! The timer had wound down, but had failed to alert me with a "Beep beep." I checked the volume knob, thinking I had accidentally turned the volume down. No, it was right where I left it. I began needing to crank the volume knob up higher and higher to get it to beep. 40% and below were completely silent. The required location I needed to crank it up to became higher and higher. Then it worked normally. Then it didn't. Then it did. Then it didn't. Very soon after, the timer began refusing to beep at all at any level of volume. I could feel that I would have to crank the time wheel up to a full 120 minutes, hear some kind of "click" like I was re-zeroing the mechanism, and then manually wind it down to get the beeping to activate again. Then it would work normally. Then it wouldn't. Then it would. Then it wouldn't. I let all this slide as I am a fairly easygoing person and I don't like leaving negative reviews. Until tonight, when I forgot about all this nonsense and had to use the Time Timer for something. Shenanigans again! Now I'm just mad. It is so ironic and to my mind, so totally unacceptable, to sell a device of such inferior quality which was designed with the specific intent of helping people improve their time awareness, punctuality and consistency. You totally missed the mark, Time Timer. I believed in you! Believed in myself... But now, you are just a very pricey and very wasteful investment in my very honest effort to bring order to my disorderly Millenial brain. For shame. ... show more

I was thrilled to have met the original creator of these Time Timer visual clocks this past November at the American Speech and Language Hearing Association convention in L.A. I have used the original 60 minute red timer since graduate school and found it to be extremely helpful when working with students with special needs, especially those on the Autism spectrum. I was able to get a glimpse of the newly designed visual timers in November at the convention and knew right away that the 20 minute timer would be a great addition for my practice. My sessions are often 20-25 minutes and the 60 minute timer tended to be a little overwhelming. I also like the 20 minute timer for quick 5 minute breaks that my students earn. The smaller timer means that it is a bit easier for the students to see time passing and the blue color is a lot more calming to look at then the red. The timer face is now covered with a piece of plastic for protection and my absolutely favorite feature is that there is now a volume control feature for our students who are sensitive to sounds. My only wish, and I did mention to the designer, is that the sound was not a "beep, beep, beep" noise. I wish it were a ding or something softer and less stressful. With all that being said, this is a MUST HAVE for special education classrooms! So versatile and effective! ... show more
