  • Secret Install Tip w/photo
Rack is awesome. It's very easy to install on the car and very easy to load bikes onto. I put my 29'er mountain bike on it and it fits fine. Now here's my secret tip that I can not believe Thule doesn't incorporate this into the rack (Maybe the T2 PRO XT 3, if they ever come out w/one): I always wondered why everyone drove around w/their rack attached to their car, w/o a bike. That's because the rack is heavy and cumbersome to move on and off the car (or they have the "look at me" syndrome). I had to get a receiver added to my car so I took it to my local hitch place and they made it happen. On the way, I stopped at a hardware store and picked up a $6 castor wheel. I gave it to the hitch place and they welded it to the rack. Now, when I take it off or put it on, I don't have to carry this unwieldy 65lb hunk of metal from my garage to the car. I just wheel it over and put it on. It makes the whole experience much easier. ... show more

  • not worth the $600
Color: Black Style: Xt 2" Receiver
I was sitting in my vehicle waiting to go riding with friends my bike was stolen off the bike in 2 seconds. the bike had a padlock on the strap and the cable was locked into the provided locking mechanism. it took a thief only seconds to cut and remove the bicycle. I only felt the thief struggling to remove the arm arm to get off the bike when i was then able to see what was happening. I called Thule. THEY SAID " Not are problem" we use inferior cabling and straps to give the buyer a sense of security. I RECOMMEND YOU BY A $40 BIKE RACK FROM HARBOR FREIGHT AND USE A CHAIN THAT CANNOT BE CUT IN 2 SECONDS WITH YOU IN YOUR VEHICLE. IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY THEY CHARGE TOU. GIVES YOU A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY AND NOT THE SECURITY DESCRIBED IN THE BROCHURE. THEY WANT $300 TO REPAIRED THE DAMAGED PARTS THAT WAS CAUSED BY A$5 CABLE CUTTER IN 2 SECONDS. ... show more

  • Very well made rack. My solution for the weight...
This rack is really robust and has all the details that count: extremely easy, no-tool install, external handle to lower the rack for trunk access, total stability even at speed. The whole thing seems to be built very well and gives confidence that it will last, so far so good. The only negative is the weight, as others already noticed. I guess it comes with robustness, but it's a pain to move it around. I liked the solution of the other user that welded a caster wheel underneath, but I also wanted a way to store the rack, so I came up with another solution. I made a rectangular steel base to which I welded a 2in square with the right inclination, see photos. (I wanted to put four casters on the base but then I found a ready-to-use square dolly at a lover price than the wheels only, so I used it instead). The whole thing is perfectly balanced, occupies the least space possible and I can move it around without effort. I go to and from the car very easily, not the handling is much improved... ... show more

  • Cable locks are worthless
Color: Black Style: Xt 2" Receiver
At first glance seem to be well-designed. That is until I tried to pull the cable lock out to discover that it is barely held on with a flimsy plastic Tab and at the first pull the entire thing broke off. More importantly the cable itself is not truly connected to anything substantial. Total cosmetic and a waste for security sake we will not be using it. ... show more

  • ... until I decided on this one and I am glad I did
Color: Black Style: Xt 2" Receiver
I spent months researching bike racks until I decided on this one and I am glad I did. This bike rack is awesome!! I use it on the back of my Mercedes GL450. It is easy to get on and off and it holds my Cerevelo triathlon bike as well as my husbands Trek bike without issue. Once we have them on they really do not more at all. It take a little over 5 minutes for us to put the rack in the hitch, lock it in, load both bikes and lock them up. Yes the first two or three times took longer but now we can do it pretty quickly. Once the rack is on it can be pulled down out of the way of the back door if you need to open the back without taking the rack or bikes off. It has a lock for the rack to the hitch part and also for each bike. I have had bike on it for 6 plus hour drives with no issue whatsoever - once on they just don't move!! It looks great on the back of the car and it has been a great purchase. I am glad I took the time to research it before spending the money. This was a great choice. You will not regret buying this bike rack. ... show more

  • worked for 1 month
Color: Black Style: Xt 2" Receiver
its a pricey rack and i was hesitant to buy, but since it was so highly rated i thought why not. so the product holds bikes well but unfortunately the mechanism to tilt the rack has broken after only a handful of uses. i had the bikes on the back of the car, got to the trail took them off and it wouldn't fold up. when you pull the handle you can feel it clicking and see something in the housing move, but clearly something else isn't connecting or is jammed as it wont budge. so now i have an overpriced platform rack that wont fold up. i cant leave it extended in the lot where we have to park so now the last two weekends of summer, i cant bring the kids to ride bikes on the trail or boardwalk. oh and thule support isn't around on the weekends, so another 2 days of waiting until i can even start to get this resolved. extremely disappointed. ... show more
