  • Solid quality, minor issues, break-in update Solid quality, minor issues, break-in update
Size: 9 Color: Black
I wear a US Men's 9 in all shoes and when I tried these Thorogood black moc toes on, they were the right size, no issues. The 9 1/2 was way too long in the toe, so I ordered the black 9's. They arrived VERY stiff, so I rubbed 3 coats of Bick 4 Leather Conditioner into the boots and wore them around the house. The conditioner can be rubbed in with a finger, wait till dry, then buff off with a soft cloth, but it absorbed quite a bit to help soften the leather. Build quality is incredible, as these are my first USA-made work boots, but I did notice some minor sole burrs left by the sanding that I had to pick off by hand, but no big deal. Break-in is going well in day 2, but I am noticing, like other reviewers, that the stitch between the bottom two eyelets, and the bottom eyelet, is pretty harsh on the top of my foot, but seems to be slowly relaxing with wear. Overall, I'm really impressed with the quality and I'll update again after break-in. My break-in period will be two weeks, particularly focusing on that bottom eyelet and heavy stitching in that area. Around the house wear using two pairs of thick trail socks and more conditioner and I’ll give an update. Break-in Update after Two Weeks: Two weeks of wearing the boots around the house over two thick pairs of trail socks and 5 coats of Bick 4 leather conditioner and I can say that the initial toe knuckle-crushing pain of the bottom eyelets and stitches has subsided into a minor annoyance over a single pair of thick trail socks now. I'm confident I can wear them out to the grocery store or mall and not constantly be focusing on foot pain. The bottom eyelet area pressure is still there, but the rest of the boot is fitting like a glove and I'll probably start wearing them outside now. I'd say that if you're in the same boat as I am with the initial crushing pressure of that bottom eyelet and thick-stitched area, you may want to consider the wide version of the boot, or dedicate yourself to the break-in period with plenty of leather conditioner and mega-heavy socks. Break-in Update after Three Weeks: Wearing the boots out this past week over one pair of thick boot socks has been great with the bottom eyelet/stitching pressure almost completely gone. I could wear these all day out around town now with no discomfort. They fit my feet like a leather foot glove now. Really very nice. Two-year Update: Bought in December 2021 and now it's December 2023 (almost) and the boots are holding up very well. Still look great, especially after scrubbing the white side soles and scraping off the suds with a spoon. Clean again. Boots are easy to clean and condition with the Bick 4 conditioner. I wear them casually with jeans, so can't speak to how they hold up to physical work. Laces fraying a bit at this point, but the leather and stitching still holding up really well and still wearing them over thick LL Bean boot socks is nice and comfy. ... show more

  • Excellent quality!
Size: 11 Wide Color: Tobacco
I worked in construction for 47 years as a sheet metal worker, in the field and also in the office. I know the value and importance of a good pair of work boots. If your feet are uncomfortable, you won’t perform at your best. Now that I’m retired, I find the need for good work boots while working outside on my property. These boots are well built, true to size and very comfortable. Good looking too! They are not light weight. My size 11 wide weigh two pounds each. I figure that is added benefit as I get a nice workout as I walk around, don’t need ankle weights! Haha! I wasn’t sure if the wedge soles were a better choice than waffle soles. Waffles do provide better traction until they get packed with mud. Then they can be a chore to clean out. The wedge soles on mine so far have provided adequate traction and are much easier to clean. If you’re looking for a great pair of work boots, these are well worth a try. ... show more

  • Very Good Boots Very Good Boots
Size: 11 Wide Color: Tobacco
First, I am an 11W, and I ordered my actual size. The fit is good, but was a little tight in the toe box. At one week the leather had molded to my feet and this is no longer an issue. The leather itself is ball glove soft, and without any noticeable cuts. The stitching is tight and consistent. The tongue is very thin and more of a gusset than a tongue, but the boot easily laces without bunching up. The insole is soft and the wedge sole makes for a comfortable step. I received what looks like a return, based on dirt on one of the soles and undone laces, but otherwise they look new. Initially one looked tobacco and the other looked like it is Apache brown. If not, they were at least different enough for other people to notice (first thing my wife said). I treated the leather and they are identical now. I have a couple other comparable brands, and these are my favorites. Very comfortable now, and probably already my favorite boot. I did take out the gel insoles and put leather insoles from Nicks, which I bought here on Amazon. I added kilties and they are even more comfortable. ... show more

  • Narrow toe makes it a tight fit
Size: 10 Color: Trail Crazyhorse
I really wanted to love these boots. I’m about a month in and still trying to break them in, that’s why I give it a 4star. I’ve applied 5 or 6 coats of good quality mink oil and have purposely worn them everyday to get rid of that first eye loop toe pinch that’s making my right foot scream. I’ve come to realize the footbed of these boots are too narrow. I’ve always worn normal width shoes, sneakers, etc., but these are obviously made very narrow. Look, the quality is top notch and the boot will last, so you do get your $ worth, but it’s a crap shoot if these will be comfortable enough for you. My next attempt is to purchase boot stretchers….. **Update: Months later, after purchasing a boot stretcher, and well broken in, these are more comfortable than my sneakers, so comfortable, I’m back to purchase my second pair. ... show more

  • My favorite boots My favorite boots
Size: 11 Wide Color: Tobacco
I have been wearing mine for over 4 years now and they are now my favorite boots. Supremely comfortable and supportive. My boots are still in great shape and expect many more miles and years from them. I rubbed some Kiwi boot conditioner on them and are now butter soft. Highly highly recommended. I would buy another pair without thought if I needed them. I do not remember really any break-in before the boots were comfortable. High quality. American made goodness using the proven Goodyear Welt design. ... show more

  • Literally unwearable and unbearable. Never buying thorogoods ever again
Size: 15 Color: Tobacco
I have a pair thats 3 years old that im currently wearing at work. I bought a brand new pair thinking I'd treat myself. Oh boy, was I wrong. Instead, what I received were a pair that looked almost identical, and yet right out of the box, I could tell someone made a really, REALLY bad decision at thorogood. The quality of the leather in the old pair was (as in when I first bought them and right out of the box) nice and thick, soft enough to be comfortable yet stiff enough to provide good ankle support. The quality of the leather in the new pair was atleast half as thick, which is far too thin, obviously soft comfortable but offered absolutely no ankle support. It was so thin I was actually worried I'd rub a hole into the toes and ankles before I even got to fully break them in. Then you move on to the tongue. In the old pair, the tongue was the perfect size and shape, and made with that same nice, thick leather. Soft enough for comfort, stiff enough that the tongue wouldn't bunch up and create hot spots but instead lay perfectly flat against the top of your foot. The new pair not only is using the garbage quality, super thin leather but also has the added major issue of having an oversized tongue. Just way too much material. With the leather being so thin and soft and there being too much of it, even after multiple attempts of getting it to sit right, I couldnt put the new pair on without creating extremely uncomfortable hotspots everywhere. Literally made the boots unbearable for a few seconds to try on and see how they felt, let alone an entire 10 hour shift at work. Overall, it's safe to say I wont be buying another pair of thorogoods ever again, which is crazy considering I've worn them exclusively for over a decade. Buy yourself some Danner's, or if you can afford it, do what I did. The day I returned these disappointments, I bought 2 pairs of PNW boots. A $400 pair of Drew's 10" loggers as work boots and a pair of Nick's 8" builder pros in shrunken bison black for every day boots. The Nick's were $790 after shipping, and i wont be getting them for another 10-14 weeks, but just like the Drew's and every other pnw boot, those things are apocalypse proof and literally built to last multiple lifetimes. When the soles wear out in 8-10 years, send them back, get them resoled for less than the price of 1 pair of these thorogoods, and you'll get another 8-10 years on them. Then do it all over again. Super expensive, yes, but the greatest example of buy once, cry once. Tl;dr: the thorogood you think you know no longer exists. Youre better off buying 5 pairs of cheap Walmart work boots for the same price as one of these. They'll be more comfortable and each pair will last longer. You heard it here first from a long time thorogood lover who will never buy another pair of thorogoods ever again. ... show more

Comfortable out of the box, stylish, they feel great and I love the color. I had tried them on at a bootbarn before purchasing to make sure I had the right size. I would have bought them there, but I found them here and got a WAY better deal that I couldn't pass up. Hope to get the 8inch boots too. Great boot! ... show more
