Description

The Crusades were over. The perils of the dark ages were barely passing. It was the best of times and the worst of times. The Middle Ages spanned 1066 to 1485AD and spawned legends of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and many others. The life of all the classes was dominated by the feudal system. Romanticism, greed, magic, dominance and gut survival blended amidst feudal battles from one castle to another. The Feudal System was introduced to England following the invasion and conquest of the country by William The Conqueror. The Normans from the time they first settled there around 900AD had used the system in France. It was a simple, but effective system, where all land was owned by the King. The largest portion was kept by the King as his personal property, some was given to the church and the rest was leased out under strict controls. The King allowed those he could trust to lease land. These became Barons. They were wealthy, powerful and had complete control of the land they leased. You're a Baron. The Stronghold Collection brings together five games from the critically acclaimed real-time strategy (RTS) series that allows players to conquer the Middle Ages. The Stronghold series has become one of the most popular dynamic castle building sim games in the world, combining the finest aspects from the city builder and RTS genres. Prepare yourself for a back-in- time visit to the Middle Ages and see how your expertise, wile, and guile help you survive or fail. The Stronghold Collection combines historically accurate castle construction, management, and authentic medieval combat. Players journey to lands of brave warriors, epic legends and fearsome weaponry, where they will build and fortify fortresses; lay siege to intrepid enemies; and conquer harsh terrains. The Stronghold Collection includes the following games

  • Love this game. Hours go by and it feels like minutes.
Platform For Display: PC
This game is a classic. It's one of those games you won't play for months but then when you get back into it you can't stay away. It's really though out with good graphics, good user control and all in all just a lot of fun. It doesn't cost much, don't need an internet connection to play and really one of the best games out there if you like this time period. No matter how many times you play the same level it's something different. It's def worth a try and if you don't like it, it's only a few bucks and you can probably recoup it on ebay. ... show more

  • Good Set Of Games
Platform For Display: PC
Ordered this as it contains a full set of the Stronghold games and a good chance to play them as I never have. First off. I'm running Win 8.1 and even though there are concerns playing some games on 8.1, I was able to install and play each one of these games without a problem at all. The thing I liked most is that they play without having to have the DVD inserted in the drive. It means you can play simply by clicking the shortcut and off you go. All played very well and I didn't need to adjust the resolution on any of them even though I have a 1366x768 set up default. I found the games to be entertaining and easy to get into. A really good buy for me. ... show more

  • A good buy.

I already have SH Crusader and SH1, so I bought this for SH Crusader Extreme, SH2, and Legends. SHC Extreme was alot of fun, new AI, the 'extreme' options at the top right can come in handy if you go 6vs1(you). SH2/Legends was fun; nice graphics and new units, but the AI was kinda lame compared to SH Crusader. I had to make my own boards w/ pre-set invasions to really enjoy repelling borders and making my own sieges. Even if you make an enemy super rich, they attack w/ like 6 spear-men and 2 catapults, ad nauseum. If AI in crusader had the resources the AI in SH2/Legends did, they'd have an army as long as the board, on your doorstep in about 5 min to own you. Summary: SH2/Legends: New units, nice graphics, fun, but AI is very lacking. I loved the map editor in SH2. ... show more

  • I love these games and DRM free to boot
Platform For Display: PC Download
Sure they are older, but these are some of the greatest economy games I have ever played. I originally purchased these from Direct to Drive, but when they got bought by GameFly, the titles got yanked. They said that they may be available again, but couldn't give me a release date. I came over to amazon and they had the whole collection DRM free. This is the first game I bought from Amazon that is digital download, and I am hooked. The games in this collection are great if you like economy games. They are older so the system requirements are less, in fact play these on my little 11z laptop that has a hard time playing minecraft. If you like economy games or tactical war games, you will like these. If you don't like setting up an economy and doing things like hanging or stoning peasants, sending hundreds of archers and knights to defeat the Noble who happens to live next to you, or setting up shop in a rocky valley to ambush an incoming invasion .. you probably don't want these. ... show more

  • Download OK but no guidance to game play?
Platform For Display: PC Download
I really love sim and strategy games so I had high hopes going into this one. I read all the reviews and figured for $6.78 for the whole collection, even if I didn't like it, I wasn't losing much. So...it took 2.5 hours to download and install the first 3 games. I didn't even bother with the last one since it was getting late and I just wanted to play the original to start with. There is a chance during install to view the Readme file. DO IT. Print it if you can. You will need it for reference. As the game loads into full screen, I was not able to click Windows and go back to the Readme file during game play. As my printer was not working at the time, it made learning the controls and game play very difficult. I do not like the controls but after an hour I had more or less figured them out in Free Play mode. I restarted my mission several times trying different building strategies to increase popularity and mood but it kept falling. This could be my game playing so don't hold that against the game. I've never had much trouble in the past with games of this nature but this one had me stumped. If I built too many hunting shacks/wood cutters/hovels, the game would say I didn't have enough workers. If I didn't build enough of those items, my workers would sit lazily about the fire. Very frustrating but I'm going to give it another shot tonight. So I'll leave it at a 3-star for now. The game LOOKS interesting and there are modes of game play I haven't even attempted yet so it has potential. I don't like the controls and the inability to view the Readme inside the game but I can get it printed and fix that. However I was very disappointed to see this collection for $4.99 on Amazon today as I went to write my review. Really? Under 24 hours and the price drops? Oh well, such is life. ... show more

  • I read many of the previous reviews and this is what I found.

In my opinion, it was lacking in ability for the player to navigate his people on the screen and if you watch closely, the figures that are on the screen do not follow clear paths to where they are going (as in you have farms in place and the workers on newly installed farms cannot tell the difference in that there is already a "new farm in place" and just cross over it) to get to their previous location. When the community go into the castle, you the player cannot get then out easily. When dogs, bears, or other's got out and kill your workers -you cannot call in all of your people to gather within the castle. If a person were to have played any of the "AGE OF EMPIRES COLLECTION" -- you would trully see a game that is entertaining and would keep you for hours at play and on the pc. SORRY -- STRONGHOLD COLLECTION--you just don't cut it in my book ... show more
