I'm not sure if they updated the unit or not, but I'm 5 days in and no issues with mine yet. The assembly fits snugly on the top edge of the chair. The contours of the plastic body seem custom fit for the chair, so I didn't experience having to force it into place, or any unsightly gaps and general incorrect fit. It looks good and seems OEM quality frankly (thus far), and even the material matched my chairs pattern and color exactly. You have to have an extremely good eye to catch the difference (unless you ordered your chair(s) with another pattern or color). The adjustability of the headrest, after it's been installed, is very easy, using one lever to enable the upward and downard tilt of the headrest, while forward and backward adjustment is done manually (using your hands); I've read that you can adjust the level of force required to move the headrest forward and backward, but personally I haven't needed to do that. As for some other reviews saying the unit gets loose after a week or that they have had to finagle the unit onto the chair with McGiver solutions, I can happily say I have not needed to do anything like that yet. I really can't complain about anything other than the price, but really if you've ever sat in an Aeron (one that you paid for yourself), you quickly realize that for the money spent on it, a critical piece is missing, and this is that piece. It completes the chair and frankly should have come with one from the factory, so if you work for Herman Miller and are reading this, tell your cheap bosses to include this in the box.

I want to start this review off with a quote from another review that won me over: "I wish I would have bought it sooner". The design, materials, and color are a perfect match for my Aeron charcoal chair. I'll get to this later, but customer support was excellent. This review is for the H4 version. I'm a programmer and a while back I purchased a Herman Miller Aeron chair. However, during some intense programming sessions, my neck muscles would start to bunch up. This headrest is exactly what I needed to handle it. Now that I can lean back to support my neck, and it actually helps me with my posture. I was seriously considering purchasing another chair with a headrest when I saw this add on. The price was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it really is a perfect match and works very well. Considering I've had the chair for about 10 years, I expect it is worth it. Fit: In regards to fit, I'm 5'9. When the chair is in the upward position, I use the top downward slope as support. When reclining I tilt the rest up and use the front part. It fits quite well. Adjustment is pretty quick with the clamping lever which is easy to reach, but for the most part I just tilt the upper pivot. Support: The first one that I ordered had a slight manufacturing defect where one side wasn't fully pushed in. It worked fine, it just looked wonky. I contacted support and they got back to me immediately and sent out a new one. Adjustments: (This is not as big of a deal as I probably make it sound, but thought I would mention it.) There are two pivot points on this headrest (which in the pictures, you can tell from the two circles). The first is the bottom part which is controlled by the clamp. The second one is higher up behind the headrest, which is controlled by the tension of two screws. If I'm repositioning the upper head rest a lot, I eventually need to retention the screws. Its really not a big deal, but thought I would mention it. The plastic caps that cover the screws have kind of a fine edge. To keep from marring them, I used a credit cart to work around the cap and pull it up. As a side note, they include spare caps in the package if you do mangle it :) I just keep the caps off for now, but I'll probably just put them back in and not fully seat them to make removal easier. I'm quite happy with the product and considering I use it every day, well worth it.

Finally, I can comfortably slouch in my Aeron chair. Seriously, that's the only thing I hated about this chair. Now it's fixed. Positives - easy install, good color and fabric match for my chair, very adjustable. Negatives - Really expensive (even when considering the chair it's going on it's hard to justify). The fastener plugs are a nightmare to get off so you can tighten up all the fasteners so the head rest stays in position (it is mandatory since everything is loose from the factory). They say use a screwdriver, but that's impossible without damaging the finish. The only thing that I found that works without damaging the finish is a really sharp knife edge. Deducting a star for this since it could have easily been designed with a relief for a tool.

I am a tall guy at 6'6" so I have a type C Aeron chair but wanted a headrest got it because I use the chair almost 9+ hours a day 6 days a week. So I did research for head rests for taller people and stumbled on this one. Pros - Adjustable in several different ways that will hit you right where you need it no after how you are sitting. -Really comfortable and mesh so it breathes and doesn't stick to your skin. Cons -The fabric is a different one than what my chair is made of and I'd a little darker Conclusion You will notice I didn't say price was a con, that is because if you buy a 800$ chair a 200$ headrest isn't a stretch. It is a slightly different color than my chair but that doesn't bother me at all. It is such high quality that it more than offsets the color issue. And it fits me perfectly and I am 6'6".

This fits the aesthetic of the chair very well. Attaching it was easy and I have no worries that it will come off without someone intentionally removing it. The adjustments however are all loose. If any pressure is applied to the headrest it will move out of position. As long as it's only your head resting gently against it it's fine, but if you push your head back too hard bump into it etc it will be out of position and you'll have to readjust it. I have not been able to tighten any of the adjustment points down to prevent this.

Two years ago I and to undergo two level fusion in my neck, ACDF. A disc in my neck had collapsed and the two vertebra were pinching the root nerve that went to my left arm. The surgeon told me it is common in people who work at computers a lot due to looking downward all the time. The surgeon gave me two choices, have the surgery or save up for a wheelchair. On a scale of 1 to 10 my pain level was 30,000. Now it's two years later, and I still live with daily pain, and worse if I do anything normal like pick up a bag of potting soil and throw it over my shoulder. I have certainly changed my work environment with elevated monitors, ergonomic keyboards, and a very nice Herman Miller chair that makes life bearable. At the end of most days I was exhausted and just wanted to rest my neck. Holding your head up all day is harder than you think when you have had this kind of surgery. I finally broke down and bought a head rest, and I should have bought it a long time ago. This thing is an absolute gift from God above. It took a little adjusting and it takes a little while to get used to the look, but being able to lean back and rest my neck is beyond fantastic. The head rest if very well built and looks like it belongs to the chair. Even the fabric matches. Now I just need to save up so I can buy another one for my chair at home. The headrest is certainly worth the price or more, it is just after medical bills and time off from work and making all the other needed adjustments, the wallet gets a bit thin. :) Thank you for making such a awesome product.

The H4 Carbon fits a pre-2017 Aeron chair correctly (no "gap") and is well-matched in color, finish and design aesthetic ( $100 words for "appearance.") There's easy adjust for different seating position and it's comfortable for sitting upright and typing, or feet up reclined watching a video or reading. I'm a bit over six feet tall and there's ample height adjust for people a little shorter or considerably taller. Shipment was on time and packaging was "no frills" brown box and bubble wrap -- sufficient without landfill excesses of many products these days. Overall 10/10 with only a small itch at the price of $170 being "I could buy a whole chair with a similar headrest for that" but it makes the Aeron a lot more comfortable chair when reclined, reading, etc.
