The media could not be loaded. Make sure you fill the water to at the least the minimum water level but not above the maximum level. I didn’t realize there was a min/max level until it started spitting out foam and making noise, nearly fried the motor. Also, there’s not much space for any more media material inside the filter cave. If you add anything it won’t work properly; the water doesn’t filter through fast enough and has the potential to fry the motor. I have an exterior canister filter to make up for it, but it’s worth mentioning. Simple set up. Comes with case filter, basking platform, a few plants, turtle food, heat lamp and UV lamp, mesh cover. Wonderful starter turtle kit! It has everything you need. I have 2 baby yellow sliders in it. They love it! I also added another filter in the tank so it will keep the water clear and that helps as well

The lid that comes with the tank fits great, but has one major flaw- there are NO holes to allow the filter cord to come out to plug in. We ended up cutting a hole in the wire mesh to feed it through. The other issue we had was the lamps are a little top heavy and unstable just setting on top of the mesh. Also- our heater bulb lasted for 15 minutes then popped and went out. The tank and filter are great. Overall this is a convenient little kit, but does have some major flaws. ... show more

This was a thoughtfully prepared kit that has everything you need for young aquatic turtles. People in colder climates will also need a water heater. Apparently, we will have to upgrade to an even larger tank as our red-earred slider outgrows it, but this should be good for a couple years. The UV bulb burned out after 1 day, but the customer service rep responded promptly to email and sent a replacement bulb. ... show more

I came across a 6"x4" painted turtle on a bike ride, brought him home and purchased this tank along with some other things. It's a good tank with a silent water-filtration system (the only sound comes from the little waterfall it creates, which is a pleasing sound in my office).
