  • Such a Cool Birthday Gift for a Kid Interested in Space
Color: White
I got this telescope for my nephew's birthday, and I absolutely love the idea. I haven't unboxed or assembled it because I want him to open everything on his birthday, so I can't review the actual viewing quality yet. I spent quite a bit of time looking through everything included before choosing this one, and it seems like a really nice starter set for a child or beginner. One of the main reasons I chose it was the 70mm aperture and the range of magnification options. It comes with three different eyepieces plus a 3X Barlow lens, with the listed magnification ranging from 15X to 150X. I like that he won't be limited to one viewing option as he learns how to use it. It also includes a moon filter, which I thought was a great addition since I imagine the moon will be one of the first things we'll try to find. The adjustable tripod was another feature that stood out to me. According to the product information, it adjusts from about 14.7 inches to 49.2 inches, so it can be positioned for a child or an adult. The telescope can also be moved horizontally and vertically to help with positioning and tracking what you're trying to see. I'm especially excited about the smartphone adapter. Being able to attach a phone to the telescope and attempt to take pictures of what we're seeing makes this much more fun, especially for a kid. It also comes with a finder scope, diagonal mirror, and the different lenses, so this feels more like a complete beginner's kit rather than something where I'll immediately have to purchase a bunch of additional pieces. The telescope itself also looks really nice in the photos. I chose the white version, and I think the black-and-white design makes it look much more like a real astronomy telescope than a toy. I wanted something that would be exciting for him now but that he could continue learning to use as he gets older. I'm really looking forward to getting this set up with my nephew on a dark, clear, starry night and seeing what we can find together. I think experiences like that make great memories, and I love giving him something fun while also encouraging him to learn about astronomy and explore something new. I'll have a much better idea of the actual optics and ease of setup once his birthday comes and we can finally open it together, but based on everything included, I'm very excited to give this to him. It feels like a thoughtful gift that gives us something we can actually experience together rather than another toy he'll play with for a few days and forget about. ... show more

  • Easy to use for beginners (with a bit of effort). Definitely on the budget-end, but still good.
Color: White
This is a pretty cool telescope that has all you need for beginners! It comes with multiple lenses, is easy to put together (for the most part), and a nice phone holder for taking pictures! My only issue with installation is that the picture for #5 is both low-resolution and clearly incorrect (the piece is being put in backwards in the picture). However, the video on the product page (you have to scroll to the middle to see it) correctly shows how to install all the parts, so it's not a huge deal. The tripod works, but it is pretty cheap, so don't expect the strongest metal. You may have to get used to using the viewfinder, since it's inverted, but I just imagine I'm dragging the "image" rather than the crosshairs, and it becomes a lot easier to use. Everything looks really clear in the telescope so far. With the current weather and time of month, I cannot currently see the moon, but when I can, I will come back and add a photo of it! Overall, for a beginner like me, this is a pretty solid choice! I can't wait to take it to a darker area to look at more! ... show more
