So far I am very happy with the TV. I bought it mainly for gaming. 2016 is when I got serious into premium TV just to have a good picture quality for games. my first TV back then was the samsung KS8000. I was really surprised with the picture quality but down the road I noticed a flaw: game mode downgrade the picture quality. the input lag out of game mode in the ks8000 isnt good so eventually I put my eyes on the lg oled c8. excellent picture quality in game mode. barely any input lag but then another thing started to bother me. the high peak brightness wasnt high enough. the ks8000 has awesome peak brightness so I was used to it. I loved the perfect black and contrast on the oled c8 but I felt it needed that peak brightness to make it perfect. Eventually my household were living on one income so Istopped looking at TV until last year. Then I discovered the Samsung s95b and discovered that it has all the benefits pack in one, high peak brightness, excellent contrast and perfect blacks but I couldnt afford it until recently I discovered the TCL QM8. Started reading reviews and heard about the high peak brightness and that the blacks levels were very close to Oled and excellent contrast for just $1000. I couldnt believe it and was very skeptical. kept reading reviews, noticed that amazon has a monthly payment plan with no interest and decide it to give it a go and... it is the gamers dream comes true for just $1000 instead of paying $1,700 for the samsung s90C. As soon as I installed it, started playing Alan Wake 2 which is a dark game and was really surprised at the black levels. I swear the black levels looks like my lg oled c8 but now with high peak brightness (higher than ks8000) and the best of all, very low input lag!. granted I havent seen the samsung s90c in person but I can say my TCL qm8 has shown almost a match or improvement in every category I care about. Higher peak brightness than the ks8000 and the lg oled c8, and the black levels and contrast are very close to my oled for just $1000. After gaming for years on my oled c8, I started craving for that peak brightness so went back to my ks8000 and was playing through that horrible input lag. not anymore! I previously had a TCL Roku 75 inch TV and was very happy with it. I was interested in going bigger and did a lot of research on the new TCL QM8 85 inch and when Amazon’s price went down, decided to go for it. Sometimes bigger is better- this TV is awesome! The picture detail, brightness and black levels are as good as TVs that cost thousands more. I spent $4.99 for a video on You Tube that very specific advice on detailed settings for the QM8 and within 10 minutes the picture looked outstanding- using the Dolby Vision Bright or Dark or the Movie setting (the Dolby Vision IQ uses some motion smoothing that I don’t like). The point is that if you spend some time on the settings to get the TV to look the way you like you’ll be very happy. Although out of the box the picture is impressive. One of of the big surprises for me was how my Atmos set up sounds so much better since my TV is connected to my receiver. I also love the Google smart TV voice control. No more clicking the remote and speaking into the remote- you’re able to speak to the TV and give commands about playing a specific movie or finding a streaming service (you can even ask, “what’s the weather in NYC?”). And the hundreds of free Google TV channels was a a very nice plus. So the TV is beyond my expectations for amazing picture, great interface and the extras I mentioned. And I recommend to pay the $30 service fee to have Amazon bring the TV to the space you want and set it up. They did a great job and within 20 minutes I was able to fire up the TCL and enjoy. ... show more

    • Excellent mid-upper range 65" TV for movies and gaming

I have this setup in my living room as a media consumption TV with an HDMI hookup to a PC. Overview: The picture quality is excellent, with no visible blooming from the front despite incredible brightness of highlights. Color gamut is also excellent. The apps are ok, they're Google TV apps. You're almost always better off just casting from a mobile device. VA Panel downsides: Being a VA panel with no wide-angle filters, the color washout is obvious once your head moves more than 15-20 degrees out of perpendicular. For 8' viewing distance don't expect more than 50" of seating area without washout or contrast getting worse. Further the viewing distance, the more seating area you can get but 12' is the upper limit for a great cinematic experience. Since t's a VA panel, some pixel transitions are slower than others and you can get some weird ghosting on black to grey to dark grey to white pixel changes. PC usage: For PC usage, the one downside is lack of 4:4:4 chroma support. When viewing certain webpages it is obvious that the TV is displaying 4:2:2 despite the GPU claiming it is pushing 4:4:4. On Nvidia GPU, I also get occasional loss of signal if the desktop is spanning a 144Hz DSC Gsync monitor and the QM8 at 120Hz 4K. I'm pretty sure this is an Nvidia issue though. If you enable Game Mode, you can get 144Hz and VRR but the LCD panel overdrive seems best tuned for 120Hz static refresh. Videos on PC with RTX HDR: While I would not use this TV as a primary PC monitor, it is capable of watching YouTube and other videos with no downsides as the videos are always 4:2:0 chroma sampling. By using the Nvidia GPU, I can upsample YouTube and other videos using RTX HDR and VSR to 4K HDR for a result that looks much better than the native SDR. Other nitpicks: The TV picture settings are per-input. My PC input wants to use 100% brightness since the HDR10 input is mastered to 1600nits/700 nits in Windows. Some apps are better off with lower brightness but it varies from app to app. Having to adjust brightness in apps is a bummer. P.S. The TV uses around 300W at 100% brightness setting and gets quite warm ... show more

    • 75” QM8 TV arrived with defective backlight

There were alot of misses here. So the Tv was ordered on June 25 and originally scheduled for delivery on 6/30. I received a call an hour before delivery and they informed me the tv arrived late to the warehouse and all delivery trucks already went out that morning and I had to reschedule delivery for 7/1. On 7/1 Amazon delivered and setup the 75” QM8 tv. Once they left I moved the tv gently against the wall on my tv stand and the tv’s backlight started to flicker on and off which each slight movement as if something was loose in the tv. When the back of the tv’ plastic cover (above rear subwoofer) was slightly tapped the backlight will go off and on. We ensured the tvs firmware was updated. The whole day of testing the tv regardless of what’s on the screen the tv would randomly flicker off for a half second and then back on with nothing but the power cable plugged into the tv. Later that same evening the flickering got worst until the backlight went completely out. We tried typical troubleshooting like power cycling and removing all hdmi cables and still nothing. As the backlight was out we could still see the faint text on the tv while it was powered on. (See my picture) Although the tv had phenomenal picture quality like inky OLED blacks and ultra bright whites which was expected from all the review sites I follow (Digital Trends, FOMO), I am disappointed as this is my first TCL tv. I hope this not an expected experience of TCL. Not sure the cause but the ball was dropped from manufacturing to delivery. That evening I called Amazon to request an exchange as I love the tv however they could only process it as a return and they couldn’t refund the money back to my credit card. They would only refund my purchase as an Amazon credit. On 7/5 The tv was picked up per Amazon and still awaiting my return status to update. I haven’t heard any reports from anyone regarding QM8 with a bad backlight and random flickering. I will give TCL one more shot as this TV was everything I was looking for coming from a 1080p Samsung that was a solid workhorse for over 12 years. Hope the second time is a charm. ... show more

Very good picture quality and high brightness than some branded TVs. Yes its TCL, but picture looked really good compared to even some of the branded TVs(in a TV showroom with a very good customer rep who played both general content and once in a while watched HQ TV demos). Artificial image flavors can be observed some times. Long remote suited to my hand well. OS is slowwwwww and avg response is 3-5 seconds, worst can go up to 8 seconds. Up to 5 seconds avg response time in 2024, thank you. Speaker is good. Never got a singe 4K 120 Hz 10 feet cable maintain signal, tried 4 brands under 20 bucks not premium ones. But a 3ft zeskit worked flawless on 4K 120 Hz if it helps some one. Not sure if there is some issue with TV as well apart from cables, as 10 ft cables worked for many on 4K 120 Hz per reviews. Bought te 65 inch just under 900 but with C3 65s started hitting 1100 during clearances, 900 for this doesn't appeal any more. It is what it is!! Wishing it doesn't fail any time soon, an earlier 500 bucks TCL is still working after 6 years hope QM8 makes it too. Almost forgot, primary usage is Gaming and while it isnt C3, G3 still a great gaming TV mostly made that impression out of its brightness than picture quality. Overall a great TV but not outstanding. For 600-650, I would not think twice to grab a 2nd one. ... show more

Received this tv today. This is the first time I have gone all in on a TV, I usually buy a lower end or mid range, even if this is not a Samsung, Sony or LG I would consider this TV high end based on what you are getting. This tv picture looks amazing. Movies, tv, xbox, it all looks great. I moved from a 65 inch Sony to the 85 inch TCL QM8 and I could not be happier. I put it together and moved it to the tv stand by myself but let me tell you this sucker is heavy, recommend having atleast one other person to help you. I didnt notice there were two different sizes of hardware for the base which set me back as i put the long screws where the short screws went, not a biggie if you pay attention to what you are doing but i did not. You have to turn on "Game Master" from system settings in order to be able to set a input's picture to game mode. The setup was fairly quick, you tell it what apps you have and it does the rest, some had my account info and some didnt (uses google) but its pretty easy. I read some people say the user interface was laggy but that has not been my experience. I had a HD Roku connected to my Sony but I dont plan on connecting that since I like the remote and the tv user interface. I live on a military base and was a little concerned about the delivery but it was actually pretty nice, delivered by XPO. Same day and time slot they said they would deliver it. So far I am very happy with this tv, the extra 20 inches over the tv it replaced makes a big difference for me and I am loving it. I havent had to play with the picture much other than taking it out of low power mode and adjusting the picture to cool which is my preference. I think the default brightness is set at 10 which is bright but it goes to 100 which can make your eyes bleed but can also be enjoyable. If you enjoy streaming and gaming you cant go wrong with this tv. The sound is also pretty good for a big tv, has a built in sub which is nice. Does not beat a sound bar but is good enough if you dont want to do a sound bar. I will update if anything else comes up. (Loving the google user interface, cant see going back to Roku). ... show more

I went to my local Best Buy to look at all the current models since I hadn't seen the newest technology for a while. I honestly thought I was going to find that the Sony or Samsung was the best, but I went around the store several times looking at all of them to find what looked the best to my own eyes. I honestly never even considered that TCL would be in the running, but I saw they had an 85 inch Q7 and the blacks were deep and the contrast and color was great. The TCL (Q7, a model below this one) was hanging beside a $2700 Sony mini LED and the TCL TV looked best to me. I came home and read reviews and found that this model had even better specs (brighter 2000 nits and more dimming zones) than the model I saw in store so I trusted what my eyes saw and ordered this. It arrived yesterday through Prime delivery, which was great. They were very careful moving the TV in and were within the scheduled delivery timeframe. We mounted it on the wall and it looks amazing. You should note that the VESA mount is 600x600 which is an odd size so make sure you buy a mount that will work. I bought the ProMounts Tilting TV Mount for Most 60-110 Inch TV on Amazon and it worked great. I really don't understand the negative reviews that say this TV lacks detail. There are so many settings to adjust the picture to your liking. It is so sharp. The depth of the blacks with the local dimming zones looks like OLED blacks to my eyes. This TV rivals other TVs that are twice its price. I really, really recommend you take a trip to a local electronics store and judge these TVs against each other yourself. I would have never thought a TCL is what I would end up purchasing, but I'm extremely happy with it. It is a big purchase, so I purchased the four year protection plan through Amazon for $183, which is a great price. Just for comparison, Best Buy's five year protection plan is $430 for this TV. ... show more

*UPDATE* had the TV a few months now. A firmware update was pushed out 3 weeks ago and since then my sound bar hasn’t worked right. The troubleshooting team advised me to turn off crc which allows the bar to go in to standby, wake, and control volume. Then they told me to turn off earc. The issue happens with 2 soundbars of different manufacturers. The issue is that when turning off the tv the tv screen will go dark but the tv is still on as indicated by the four green lights on the tv, the screen will not come on till power cycled. Randomly the tv will turn the volume all the way to max with no button presses. Sometimes when turning the volume down on the remote the volume actually goes up. I went away from eARC to Bluetooth but the tv doesn’t like this as it will not use the Bluetooth by default and has to be selected every time the tv is turned back on. I have tried optical, it works the best but no volume control and when the tv is off with soundbars being used keeps turning on and off. As a note, you can’t use optical and have a cable connected to eARC, even if you manually select optical in settings each tv restart sets it back to eARC. This sound thing is really annoying. Does it compare to oled, no it doesn’t, but the price of this is much better than oled. It is nice and bright and has a wonderful picture. When dark grey is shown on the screen I do have some light white splotches but that grey rarely shows. The sound from this thing was much better than I expected and it can get pretty loud. I didn’t need a sound bar but did get the Klipsch sound bar. I like how turning on the Xbox turns on the tv, before attaching a sound bar it used to change to that input automatically but stopped that part once the soundbar was connected.
