  • Best TV bang for the buck!
Size: 50-Inch
It's amazing how much TVs have improved across the board over the past 5 years. This is especially true of budget TVs because many of the features that were only found in upper level, premium units such as Dolby vision, HDR and dts sound have migrated down to their cheaper siblings. After a ton of research, I purchased the 50 inch Hisense R6 and mounted it to my bedroom wall. When it comes to performance, I have zero regrets. Sure, it's not as vibrant as my 65 inch OLED that I have in my family room, or loaded with features such as Filmmaker mode and Bluetooth, but it's a huge improvement over the 43 inch plasma TV it replaced. With a bit of tweaking, I was able to get the color adjusted to my preference. Now I understand that everyone is different, but the following adjustments is what I found to be the best for me: TV brightness: Brighter Picture mode: Standard Under "Customized picture" Backlight: 100 Brightness: 55 Contrast: 100 Sharpness: 10 Color: 40 Tint: -5 Under "Expert settings: Dynamic contrast: off Noise reduction: Low Color temperature: Normal Auto setting: Standard Gamma correction: 2.2 Under sound mode: Theater Be aware that HDR content has to be separately adjusted... Again, keep in mind these are the adjustments that work best for me. I would encourage you to experiment with tweaking the TV because you will most likely not be satisfied with the default settings that come out of the box... You'll notice that I have not taken the time to comment on the specs of the TV because that type of information can easily be found online and YouTube. Suffice to say that a better TV for the money just doesn't exist - at least for the time being. The Hisense R6 is well built, the baked in Roku operating system is fantastic and the asking price is remarkable. Can you get a better TV if you're willing to pay a lot more? Of course, but I think that vast majority who buy the Hisense R6 are going to be perfectly satisfied with the video quality of this TV. One last thing as a side note, if your TV (or anything else you buy on Amazon for that matter) is delivered damaged, get in touch with Amazon who will most likely replace it - Nothing is more annoying than to see somebody post a 1 star review for a delivery/shipment situation that has absolutely NOTHING directly to do with a product or its performance. Just saying! ... show more

  • Best TV for the money
Size: 50-Inch
I needed another TV for the guest room. This 50 inch TV has all the bells and whistles on it (4K TV, SMART with Roku, google, Alexa, full array LED backlight LCD display, Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 sound). The only weak point is the 60Hz (60 frames per second) refresh rate vs 120Hz. The picture quality, to my eyes, is clear, sharp, and bright colors. The sound quality is not stereo quality because it is difficult to build good base speakers into a <22 pound TV. An external sound bar or speakers could fix that but it sounds pretty good to me. I placed this TV next to my, much more expensive, ~48 inch, 4K, 120Hz refresh, LG TV and do not see any visual difference. This TV costs <1/2 the price as well so is a deal. The question I can't answer is how reliable is it or how long will it last? At this price, if it fails, I can buy another new one and still have saved money. ... show more

  • Great TV, but the Remote is Less Than it Should Be.
I love the TV, but the remote is pretty wimpy. It’s the same remote (or similar to) the remote we use in the bedroom for the Roku connected to a Panasonic Plasma screen that’s over fifteen years old. Television is perfect. The remote, not so much. It’ll pass, but we’ll probably add a universal remote to replace it and add it to our arsenal. That cost will be added to the overall cost of this television and it’s less than par remote. We’ll remember this and will know better when we begin looking for televisions to replace the older one in the bedroom. We’re also disappointed that there’s no other way to introduce audio to our home theatre system without purchasing a third party piece of equipment that will change the digital audio output to RCA inputs. I know it seems like older technology, but the television doesn’t even provide any Bluetooth capabilities to use a third party device we already have. We will absolutely do more research when it’s time to upgrade the plasma screen in the bedroom. We'll have a similar issue there. Update: We chose to purchase a Roku Voice Remote that works great with our new television. We’d prefer using a keypad, but this works. We’ll probably still go a different route when we replace the plasma screen in the bedroom. Update: We woke up one morning and the televise wouldn’t display a picture. We contacted the vendor and they said someone local would come to my house to see what the problem was. Nine days later, a local television repair company showed up. He and his “helper” proceeded to take the mother board off my television then scratch up the front screen stating the board was bad and the television was no longer operable. I asked what I was supposed to do with the non-working television and he said I’d have to dispose of it myself. I asked about the $469 I had paid for the television six months ago and he said that Hisense would be reaching out to me within 24 hours. Three days later, Hisense called and said they’d be sending me a refund and I should expect a check in the mail in 10-14 days. I asked about them just sending me a replacement set and they told me that this would not be an option. I even offered to upgrade from a 55” screen to a 65” screen. Nope. Wasn’t going to happen. Four weeks later, the check arrived. Would I ever purchase another Hisense television? Probably not. I think I’m going to take my money and purchase TCL 65” screen from a local big box store. Hisense and their “customer service” sucks. ... show more
