  • Protect your family with this product
Style: Wired
Use this to protect grandpa from solicitors. He has lots of salesman come to his door and it's impossible for him to say no. It's a shame that solar, window, pest control and roof salesman use elderly people as a means to sell products they know they don't need or should be getting into. We have called our grandpa and asked him who was at his door and he doesn't even remember but he knows that they are coming back tomorrow. Not on our watch we call the company and cancel for him. This is a great product for security and elderly protection. ... show more

Picture quality is top notch but also depends on your internet strength. App quality is great, we actually have a backyard camera and baby camera we love it so much. Battery life is surpringly long we got the door bell in November/December and we've only had to charge it twice. Motion detection we had to turn down slightly but even still there is maybe a 1 second delay in notifying us that motion has been detected. Well worth the cost and we feel safer with it installed! ... show more

  • A great camera, and a pretty good doorbell.
Style: Wired
As an existing user of several Tapo and Kasa smart home devices, the appeal of a doorbell that integrates seamlessly into my current ecosystem was strong. Avoiding the need for yet another app was a key factor in my decision. TP-Link's ecosystem is a significant strength, particularly the inclusion of free AI detection with their cameras. This is the primary reason I've invested in their products. Without AI, camera notifications can be overwhelming or ineffective, and the subscription fees charged by other manufacturers for this feature are a definite drawback. The camera on this doorbell meets all my essential requirements. As mentioned, the free AI detection accurately identifies people, vehicles, and pets. Users have granular control over notifications, allowing you to choose between all motion events (which can be excessive) or specific categories. Living near a busy road, I appreciate the ability to limit notifications to people and pets, and avoid motion and car notifications that would create needless notifications. The customizable 'detection zones' further enhance this by allowing you to monitor specific areas within the camera's view. Additionally, the 'package detection' and 'line cross' features offer valuable and unique monitoring capabilities. The doorbell's fish-eye lens is a practical choice, providing a wide view that captures packages placed directly below – something a standard lens would miss. However, this wide angle does introduce distortion at a distance, making it less ideal for detailed security monitoring. While close-up visibility of individuals is good, distant details like license plates aren't as clear as with my other TP-Link cameras. The doorbell requires a Tapo Hub, which thankfully I already owned due to my other TP-Link cameras. Pairing the doorbell with my existing hub was effortless, and it can even utilize the hub's SD card for event-based recording. For continuous 24/7 recording, however, a separate SD card needs to be installed directly in the doorbell unit. A convenient remote chime is included, and its setup was incredibly simple – just plug it in. The instructions also detail how to wire the doorbell to an existing mechanical chime, though I opted for a different installation method. Since my door lacked prior doorbell wiring, I purchased a separate doorbell power supply, plugged it into an indoor socket, and ran the wire outside to the doorbell unit. In terms of performance, the doorbell's person and pet detection is excellent, on par with or even better than my other Tapo cameras. It reliably detects my presence when I approach the door and promptly sends a notification to my phone. The doorbell features a proximity light, which illuminates as someone approaches. Sharing access with other household members via the app is straightforward; my wife also has access. When the doorbell is rung, it initiates what appears as a video call on our phones, allowing us to answer or decline. We can also access the live feed and two-way talk through the Tapo app at any time. However, we've encountered an inconsistency with the ringing notification. Sometimes my phone receives the call, and other times only hers does. Since we have identical phones and use the same app, the cause of this issue is unclear. This inconsistency in doorbell notifications is the primary reason I'm rating this doorbell a 4 out of 5 stars. That being said, it was a great choice and a great value for my purposes. ... show more

  • My favorite doorbell/camera system so far
Style: Wired
Amazing doorbell for the price. Excellent clarity. Motion detection is a little bit delayed. You miss the first few seconds, but still better than my old ring doorbell. It was very easy to setup and worked great with my existing wiring. The clarity of the video is insane even at night. The alerts are extremely helpful and able to customized to your liking. Can't say enough good things about this ecosystem. If you're looking for an affordable camera system, definitely check tp-link out. The app isn't perfect, but the cameras and price can't be beat. ... show more

  • Bought Tapo D130 video doorbell to use for Blue Iris but didn't work out.
Style: Wired
I got Tapo D130 doorbell to use for Blue Iris since it can do RTSP. Did it work, yes and no. Setting it up for Blue Iris was fine. The auto setting (can be changed) on the camera display made the picture go down from 2k to 960p if the camera was struggling to stream the video. This is where my doorbell failed. Despite having a -55 to -65 RSSI connection to my network, the doorbell could not keep up. The camera kept going down to 960p. That, however, wasn't the biggest problem. Working with Tapo support, they noted that the WiFi on the D130 doorbell kept "rebooting" when an event detection happened. Basically, this meant that Blue Iris did not get the footage needed when something happened. I tried to like this video doorbell and if it worked like it was supposed to, I would have loved it for the low price of the product. The extra star was given due to Tapo support trying hard to work with me to see what was wrong. They pushed custom firmware to debug. After a couple of weeks of back and forth, they determined that a warranty claim was the next step. Unfortunately for them, I decided to try a Reolink (which works great) so my Tapo D130 is being returned as defective. ... show more

  • Great value.
Style: Wired
I have had few different cheaper doorbell cameras and this one is definitely the best for the price. It uses RTSP so I can connect it to my Home Assistant. I have never liked the idea of an expensive doorbell camera because they get stolen all the time. It has a nice fish eye view which makes it easy to see my packages on the porch. I also have an SD card in it for video backup. I do also like the small size, it seems most other ones are big and bulky. Also the chime is nice, I have it about 35 ft away and it works fine. ... show more
