  • On Sony A7CII - Sharp and light weight
This lens works great for the price. Good build quality, very sharp, autofocus is very good for my needs (primarily landscapes with some portrait photography, nothing professional), it is quite small and very light. Great lens to take around, I am really enjoying taking pictures with this thing ;)

  • Perfect for what I wanted.
I purchased this to live on my family camera. It’s tack sharp and renders colors beautifully. It is not parfocal so you will need to refocus when zooming in or out. This is not a big deal for me but something to be aware of if you plan on using this for video work. I am also a wedding photographer however I purchased this to use for only personal and family shooting. Although the image quality is good enough to turn in to clients. It is very compact and can be easily used on a gimbal since the lens does not zoom out that much. I am very satisfied with this purchase. ... show more

  • Super light lens thats perfect for walkaround and travel
I'm mixed on this lens but it is a very solid, inexpensive zoom. As a travel/walkaround lens, it's pretty perfect for me. It's got a great range of focal lengths and I usually shoot between 24-40mm anyways. But I also like shooting portraits and often, when you shoot wider than 24mm, you start to get odd looking perspective distortion, and I found myself missing the extra 10mm at the long end more than I thought, even though I could just crop. Realistically, this is more of a mental block on my end, but it did affect how I personally shot with it. Other than that, it's a really solid example of a second generation Tamron lens. Optical quality is quite good, with the long end being a bit weaker, but with solid sharpness, bokeh, and rendering. It does have an odd quirk with flare; it handles flare quite well but also has a weird issue of having a flare ball appear in the middle and most inconvenient spot of the image, which was a bit annoying for some portrait shots. The AF is super fast and quiet due to the newer linear motor and the lens has a USB C port that lets you customize a lot of the handling, which is a great feature addition for this generation of lenses. Some people hate the plastic feel/handling of Tamron lenses but I'm honestly pretty fond of it. They're light and very durable and I don't have to worry about the denting/scratching/chipping issues of my metal lenses and basically all modern Tamron lenses are extensively weather sealed, including this, so I can bring it out with confidence. The only real competitor to this is the Sony 24-50 f/2.8, which has a focal length range that I prefer for portraits, but less so for travel, while this is significantly lighter and half the price, so it's mostly a no brainer. My current travel kit is this on an a7R V, and a Sigma 24mm f/2 prime for night time. Well done Tamron. ... show more

  • Great Small Lens
I love this lens with my Sony a7cii because its small, has a great focal range and is super lightweight so with the smaller camera body it makes such a good travel or hiking kit.

  • Great Lens
This is a good, well-priced lens. I have moved to these Tamron lenses with the uniform front diameter on all my lenses except for one and it was really a genius move by Tamron. Image quality is very good. I wanted something a little wider for walking around city streets.

  • Great replacement for my Sony 20mm 1.8
I love my Sony 20mm 1.8, but it’s been a 1 trick pony. The Sony is awesome for wide angle full frame shooting at 20mm and Super 35/APSC at 30mm, but nothing in between. The Tamron 20-40 F2.8 has the best of what the more expensive Sony lens offers plus more due to the 20-40mm range. It’s simply fantastic. Great photos, great video, great in low light, great bokeh and smooth bokeh balls. Everything I shoot looks cinematic with this lens. Worth much more than the retail price in my opinion. Easily replaces several of my primes (20mm, 28mm, 35mm, 45mm) and maybe even my 16-35. This lens is a must have. ... show more

  • I pay full price and receive a used one.
I pay full price. Obviously, the box is opened. And there still dust within wrapping bag. Lol, I prefer a negative review.
