I bought the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L III, and before it arrived, I had already decided that I had enough lenses for my new hobby and fully planned to return it. However, once it was in my hands, I couldn't resist the temptation to attach it to my Canon 90D and snap a few photos and videos. That turned out to be a big mistake. This lens is definitely worth considering, as it produces some of the highest quality images I have taken, & I’m comparing to my prime lenses, the 50mm and 85mm. The aperture is fantastic, allowing me to capture my fast-moving dogs while maintaining a lower ISO setting. The autofocus performance on this lens is a beast. The lens's ability to capture sharpness and intricate details is remarkable. The image stabilization system is essential for me, as it minimizes hand shake and preserves sharpness, as seen in one of my photos of my dog leaping into the air to catch a ball. I was juggling the camera while throwing a ball and quickly lifting the camera to shoot, all within a few seconds. I am always on the go, and while I do own a tripod, it isn't a practical option for me. With all the features this lens offers, it allows me to take excellent photos despite my limited knowledge. I am eager to see what I can achieve as I learn more. This lens quickly became one of my favorites after just an hour of shooting with my dogs. It's safe to say that I will be keeping this lens and am looking forward to my next outdoor photography session. ... show more

Love love love this lens. I bought it to take pictures at my kids events. It is sharp and get me close to the action. Because it is a 2.8 I can get pretty good images wven if the lighting isn't great. I recommend this lens.

  • Nice lens
I’m sure it was a good lens but I decided I didn’t need it. It was a want and not a need.

  • Subtly better than my old Mark II
I've had the Mark II for 8 years and admittedly, the improvements here are subtle. I tried a one-to-one comparison in my living room and couldn't swear I'd seen a difference. Used it tonight to shoot a rock band in a local venue--a fairly tough test--and I loved it. The photos came out looking great, sharp and crisp, despite shooting at ISO 3200 to 6400 (on a Canon 5D Mk IV). The autofocus was dead-on. . .EXCEPT when I bumped the Auto-Manual switch and turned it off. Did it a couple of times through the night. Is that a flaw of the lens or just my copy? Never had the problem with the Mk II, though I definitely have with my 24-70 and ended up taping the switch in place. I mention it only so others might watch out for it; for now I'm considering it Operator Error and not blaming the lens. One of the reported improvements over the Mark II was the handling lens flare. Canon was probably thinking of sun glare but for me, it's stage backlighting aimed right into my lens--and it handled it great. I don't think I got a single lens flare the whole night; nothing obtrusive, anyway. What else. . .it feels just like the Mark II. Same weight, balance, controls. Image stabilization is reportedly the same and I didn't notice a difference. You could certainly make the argument that it's not worth the money to upgrade. . . but overall, I'm impressed with the new lens and am glad I replaced my aging and battleworn old one. ... show more
