This is the best multi-use lens I have ever purchased. As long as it is in my bag, I know I can adapt to practically any photography situation and that my pictures will shine. Autofocus is sharp and fast, and the lens stabilization is fantastic. The lens adds a bit of front-end weight and feels a bit larger than expected, but when paired with a mirrorless camera it is negligible. The control rings are tight when you first open the box, but loosen up nicely until they are smooth but not too loose. They provide amazing control over focus and length, with a third ring that can be programmed to control just about any part of the camera (I have mind set to adjust the aperture). The lens is very good all the way stopped down to 2.8, but becomes incredibly sharp at 4.0-5.6. ISO and noise is handled well at even extreme settings of 8,000+ (and can easily be cleaned up with modern photo editing denoising). There is slight vignetting wide open and pulled all the way out, but that is also easily corrected with software. The large glass surface means filters run a premium with this lens, but it is an investment that will be well worth it. I expect to be pulling this lens out of my bag for the next 10 years. ... show more

Whether I’m shooting dramatic Ozark mountain landscapes or casual portraits of friends and family, this lens just nails it. I’ve taken it on hikes, trips, and even quick neighborhood strolls, and the results consistently blow me away. Here’s what stands out after hundreds of real-world shots: Ultra-Sharp Landscapes The clarity across the frame is phenomenal. Even at 24mm, I’m pulling crisp detail from edge to edge. It handles dynamic lighting really well—sunrise glows and harsh mid-day light both come through clean without needing much correction in post. Fantastic for People Photography The f/2.8 aperture might seem modest, but the image stabilization and Canon’s AF system more than make up for it. I’ve shot countless portraits wide open, and the results have a lovely natural depth. The bokeh is smooth and unobtrusive—great for environmental portraits where you want that balance between subject and background. Lightweight and Travel-Ready This lens is deceptively light for the quality it delivers. It’s been my go-to for all-day carry when I don’t want to haul a full prime or heavier zoom. Balances perfectly on the R6 without feeling front-heavy. Rock-Solid Build It’s L-series and the construction feels premium. The zoom and focus rings have a nice resistance, and nothing wobbles or feels cheap. I’ve had it out in light rain, dusty trails, and cold mornings—never skipped a beat. Seamless Integration with Canon Mirrorless Autofocus is fast and quiet, perfect for both stills and video. Face tracking stays locked even when shooting movement. Also love how the image stabilization pairs with the R6’s IBIS, handheld shots at 1/10 sec are completely usable. I wanted this Canon RF 24-70 f2.8 lens for a long time and finally bit the bullet when lens was discounted for 2023 Cyber Monday. While the cost of the lens was still a bit high ($1,999.00 USD), it was still less than the sale price on Canon's website at the time, which was $2,399.00. This lens is perfect for me for my landscape and portrait photography and I do not need to carry multiple lenses with me to photo shoots. I do have the Canon RF Macro 85mm f2.0 that I use for nature and portraits, but auto focus is slower than the auto focus feature on the 24-70. While this lens is not as fast as my RF Macro 85mm 2.0, at its widest aperture, 2.8, I noticed a fairly decent bokeh. Of course, I could have purchased the more expensive Canon RF 28-70 f2.0, but the cost of that lens was out of my budget. I like the Lock feature on this lens which prevents lens from opening when carrying camera. Also, I am glad that a lens hood is included with the lens; however, the large lens diameter (82 mm) makes it a bit expensive to purchase certain filters for shooting in black and white. BTW, a nice lens pouch is included with lens. I love that I can zoom from 24-70 and every focal length in between. Certainly, at 24mm focal length, I am able to capture group shots of individuals without stepping too far back as when I use my 50mm lens. Also, if need be, I can still shoot at the 50mm focal length for portraits or head shots. The downsize to this lens is that it is a bit weighty, much more than either my RF 50mm 1.8 or the aforementioned RF 85mm 2.0, but the RF 28-70mm f2.0 is heavier than the RF 24-70 lens, which does make a difference when out all day on photoshoots. I was shooting off the Canon 90D with the Sigma 18-35mm lens. I used it for paid professional work. I almost feel like I should call all of my customers and pay them their money back. The photos and videos I’ve taken with this lens, paired with Canon’s R6 Mark iii, you will capture the best images you have ever captured in your life. I don’t care if you have anything else.
