Easy install
I love that this model does not need batteries and is still an electronic device even without a C wire. Using Alexa, while sitting in my chair to bump up the temperature a degree is really nice. The app is very nice on the phone also if I wanted to use that to change the thermostat. Google has an online feature that lets you check the compatibility of the device with your thermostat before you buy it. It’s just three steps and it works good. The nest E Learning thermostat which also doesn’t require a C wire has better display, but I guess you have to change the batteries in it frequently and that would be a hassle, so I like this model. We used to have a problem with the old Honeywell thermometer after a while where it would blast the furnace way too long each time it was triggered, that problem was fixed when we purchased this one. It’s much more accurate. Though I don’t use The feature you can program it to decrease in temperature for example at night or while you’re at work. You do this in the app and it’s fairly simple though somewhat time-consuming. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Will set temp to tenths of a degree
We bought this mostly for the classic, awesome design and the low price. I used one of the original classic round Honeywell units in the early 70s, lol. We’ve had it several years, it’s worked great for us and we don’t plan to replace it even when we replace the rest of the heating and AC equipment next week. One awesome-but-not so awesome (because it’s hidden) feature is that internally the unit tracks the temperature within a tenth of a degree F, and you can set your desired temp in tenths of degrees, however there is very little evidence you’re setting anything other than whole degrees because the numeric display always rounds to the nearest degree. You can’t even see or set the tenths in the Google Home app, nor does the Google Nest Mini speaker report the tenths. You can, however tell the speaker the temp you want including the tenths and it will set that. Or if you turn the ring slowly and you watch the display dial indicator closely it moves ever so slightly in between whole degrees, and the ‘time to temp’ prompt will change to intermediate values as well. I’ve tested that these are real and distinct set points by turning the dial down one small step at a time and waiting a few seconds for the AC to switch on. When I get to a certain step which can be in between whole numbers the unit will switch on immediately. Also if you go into Settings->Technical Info->Sensors on the unit you can see both the indoor temp and your set point down to the tenth of a degree. The biggest problem with this feature is that it gaslights you, for lack of a better term, and ironically it’s a little too much like the 1970 analog type. Each time you change it, then set it back to 78 for example using the dial, you never know exactly where you’ve set it unless you go all the way into the settings menu to display it. It could be anywhere from 77.5 to 78.4, so you’ll wonder if it’s you who is feeling extra hot or cold, lol. If you like repeatability you should probably use the app, which will reliably set it to 78.0, 79.0, etc. Or use a Google Home or Google Nest Mini speaker, which can set it to tenths. Note that like most smart thermostats there is no setting for the ‘swing’ in temps around your set point where the unit will cycle on and off. These units try to figure that out dynamically. Another reason for keeping this is that we have it integrated into home automations through Google Home, which is clunky and may be the worst home automation system but we’ve gotten it to do what we want for the most part. It does seem to have a hard time tracking our iPhones to tell if we’re home or not, maybe due to sketchy T-Mobile service in our neighborhood. Since we installed solar with battery storage we now disable all of the ‘Energy Saving’ features because of course it tries to save energy, even by changing our set point, when we most need heating or cooling!

Away from home control
Love the fact that I can control my heating/cooling system away from home. Also like that I can program it on my phone, which makes it very easy to change the programs when I want to
