Would have been easy had we not blown a fuse in our ac handler which we didn't know we had. The tech was great, very knowlegeable and patient and didn't rush us at all.     • Quick and Easy install, even for an old HVAC system...
My house was built in the 60s, the HVAC is about 20 years old... I bought this to help maintain better temperature in the home and better regulate the older system... It works fantastic. It comes with the adapter to hook up an older system... it plugs in just right, super easy... And it maintains the temperature in our home much better... We get 2 total sensors in the package (the thermostat has a built-in one) and the extra one... and we bought 2 more of the Room Sensors (updated) and they link up to the system just fine. I recommend between 3 and 4 total sensors, on each floor, to give the system the best chance of working properly with this system. It is saving me money, nearly paying for the thermostat and sensors... by the end of summer, it will have paid for itself. That is a bonus, because next year, it will save me money.     • Don’t buy if ABCD wires in current thermostat!
It says buried in the manual it is not compatible with ABCD wiring - which are CARRIER air handlers typically. Also, don’t buy from “Holiday hangups” seller - they don’t publicize this well but in their return policy, they charge 20% restocking fee !

    • Easy to use, easy to program, and easy to set up the app on your phone!
I just moved into a house built in the 90s that had a completely ancient thermostat. Honestly, I could not even figure out how to use it, it was just so archaic! I bought this and had a professional install it, so I can't comment on the installation process, but I can say that it didn't take the guy I hired too long to do it, and I didn't hear any groaning or swearing, so I'm guessing it was pretty easy as long as you know what you're doing! :-) The interface is very intuitive and easy to figure out, and setting up the app on my phone was a breeze -- the Ecobee unit basically walks you through it. Features: I can set the temperature I want it to cool my house down to, the temp I want it to heat my house up to, and I can set it to auto (it will heat or cool as necessary) or I can specially just tell it to cool or to heat. There are settings for vacation mode. But really the best for me is the app! If I'm away from the house, I can check on what the temp is and I can turn the heat or A/C on while I'm away -- say, 1 hour before I'm about to arrive home, so my house is at my desired temp when I arrive! Also, if I'm in my back room and feeling too lazy to walk to the center of the house where the thermostat is, I just whip out my phone, open the app, and turn the A/C on or off (whatever I am looking to do) without having to get off the couch! Ah, modern technology is awesome! :-) I did not integrate it with Alexa as I don't have Alexa, and I did not use the remote sensor so I cannot comment on that, though that does seem like a handy little extra! ... show more

Google Nest constantly had connectivity issues. I replaced with is ecobee and so far, no connectivity issues. It also provides more diagnostics and info than Google.

Install documentation appears to be fairly good. There is some documentation that comes with the thermostat and you can find more online. Documentation on how to use the thermostat is very limited. There is next to nothing that comes with it and little more online. Some answers to questions can be found online but many of the answers didn't work on my unit. I have the ecobee 4. At this point I can set a daytime, nighttime and away temperature only. That is better then what I had but would like to set an additional night temperature. If there are any other features I have not found them. Initial setup was not as easy as it should have been. The keypad displayed to enter network password is small and I was not able to enter the password correctly after several tries, finally had to use the eraser end of a pencil. To continue setup I had to call the company as ecobee does not support older Ipads, Windows 7 and I don't have an smart. The thermostat is now setup and performing the minimum basic functions I wanted. I am near completion of a 1100 expansion of a tri-level house. The heat pump that serviced the entire house now heats and cools the main and upper level. The ecobee 4 mentioned above was installed last year to control that heat pump. The basement level, with its own heat pump, is nearing completion and I have another ecobee 4 to control that heat pump. Trying to determine ecobee models can also be a challenge. On the net there is mention of a ecobee 5 but not on the company site or amazon. There are two ecobee 4 with slightly different functions and prices. If they are that different, give them a different number. generally ecobee documentation sucks. They may have a good product but it is hard to know which one you need or how to use all of the features. ... show more

I switched out the standard honeywell thermostat for the ecobee 4 and am very impressed. Very easy to install and the app to control the thermostat is easy to operate. Took 5 mins to install and set up. I can manage my home Temps from anywhere now. I highly recommend this product!
