  • I bought two Units and they have Worked Perfectly and were easy to install.
Style: Thermostat
Update 14 May 2024 Both Units are still Working Perfectly after 3 Years! I am so happy with this purchase that I just bought a third one as a spare! The model might change and I at least know that this one works perfectly and still looks very modern. So now I will have a Spare in case one should die. The only issue I have ever seen is that occasionally it sends me an email that the one of the Thermostats does not have it's time set correctly. I open the App and every time the time is correct, so I just delete the Log entry and the Alert Notification is gone. I think that the Thermostat tries to get the time and maybe once every two months it just cannot reach their servers. ORIGINAL 2021 REVIEW: Great looking unit with a lot of control. The programming is a bit confusing at first because there are just so many features that it can be a bit overwhelming. The effort involved in learning it is well worth it as you will wonder how you ever lived without these features. If your into energy savings this unit is a must have thermostat as you can schedule the temperature so that it is comfortable when needed but not cooling or heating as much when your not home. Holiday scheduling etc are built in features as well as a very nice AI system that gets the temperature to where you want it at the time you want it. For instance I set the office Temp to be 73 Deg at 9AM. These thermostats calculate based on learning the temperature curve for your systems. It knows exactly when to turn on the AC so that at 9AM it is 73 Deg. In my case it learned within a day and adjust depending on the temperature in the morning. Right now the AC units come on at 7:45AM and it cools down so that when we open the office door it is perfect 73 deg inside. Heating works the same way. When closing time comes it shuts off the AC compressor but runs the AC Fan for an hour or two to dry out any moisture in the coils and ducts, this is a great feature as it eliminates the chance of mildew growing in the system. All of this is configurable in the Menus. Remote access has been great for me so far. I have not had any issues with their servers being down. I can pull up the APP on my phone and change certain things or I can do it from a PC using a web browser. I was a little disappointment that not all parameters can be changed remotely. You can change the temperature settings also change the scheduling and do manual shutdowns or turn On but the rest must be done from the head unit. I installed two of these in our offices. One controls a 10 Ton Carrier AC unit and the other a 7 Ton AC Unit. The installation was easy. The "C" terminal and "RC" terminal hookup to the 24VAC transformer and the "C" and "Y" terminal hook up to the 24VAC compressor contactor. The "G" terminal is for the Fan relay board on the AC. Pretty much a one on one wiring from any older manual thermostat it may be replacing. Overall I am super impressed with this thermostat. It keeps the time using internet servers and does not loose any settings after a power outage. If the WiFi is down for any reason it keeps on working based on the schedule and their remote servers email you to let you know the connection has been lost. It has several email alerts including the temperature going out of set parameters which might happen if someone left a window open or you HVAC system broke down. Once setup it's pretty much a mini AI system that is keeping your house or office at the temperatures that you want and alerting you if something is wrong. ... show more

  • Very Nice Product But Requires a C Wire That May Not Be Present in Older Homes
Style: Thermostat
Very nice product with a couple of "gotcha's" not made clear in the product info readily available on Amazon (other reviewers and questioners have brought these issues up, though). This product only works with 24-volt setups (the most common type). Because this product consumes a modest amount of electricity broadcasting and receiving Wi-Fi and having a lit display, it needs a return wire for "used" electricity, commonly called a C wire (which seems to correspond to the neutral wire in 110 V circuits). Older thermostats in older houses may consume so little electricity that a return path was not needed and no C wire may be provided in the thermostat wiring to the air handler/furnace.. We were lucky. Although our house was built in 1989, very conveniently there was an unused C wire (blue) in the cabling that we could hook up to the air handler/furnace. If you have no C wire or spare unused wire, you can buy a jumper unit from Honeywell that allows you to make a C wire connection to return used electricity through the C wire connector on the 9000 or employ an alternative wiring scheme that prevents your fan from running by itself. The other potential gotcha is that the box announces very clearly on both sides "PRO install/5-year warranty" but nothing in the warranty language itself states that the warranty is only valid if installed by a pro. When I called Honeywell support about something else, the tech seemed to imply, though, that I'd bought the wrong version for DYI installation, that I should have bought the RTH model and the TH models were supposed to be professionally installed.... I told him if it broke anytime soon, warranty or no warranty, I wouldn't be buying Honeywell again. And professional installation would probably cost me a fair chunk of the Amazon price of the thermostat, anyway. A final, minor quibbling point if that the display never turns off. Especially for a product designed to save you energy and help keep the planet green, there ought to be an option, if the customer desires, to have the screen go blank and only wake up when touched. The display does dim considerably though from the brightness it has when actively used. Judging by the info on the box and the firmware display when the product first boots, the Honeywell 9000 was originally designed and built at least as far back as 2013, so while it's a very nice product, it's clearly not the latest and greatest technology but hopefully that also means it's been around long enough to get all the bugs out. It would be nice if the thermostat differentiated Saturday and Sunday rather than just having a weekday and a weekend schedule with up to 4 different heating/cooling periods allowed in each type of day. The schedule in our house on Saturday and Sunday is pretty different and our old Trane XT 300 thermostats were able to accommodate that. So very nice product but do take your old thermostat cover off (unplug the furnace first) and see if your existing thermostat uses a C wire or has an unused wire in the cabling. If you have to use an unused wire to employ as a C wire, you'll need to open your furnace cover (with electricity off), find where the thermostat wires connect, find the C connector, and connect your intended C wire to that connector. Until you have a complete C wire connection to your air handler/furnace, even if you get all the other wires right, your Honeywell 9000 won't boot and just sits there with a blank display. As long as you have a C wire or can provide a C wire, it's as easy as pie to install. (if the intended C wire is totally unused, you'll need a wire stripper to strip about 3/8 in. off the ends of the wire as well as screw drivers and pliers to straighten any bent wire ends). ... show more
