This is a great looking wedge. I have not used it yet, but I have no issues with any Estwing product. My only concern would be with the "wings" that seem meant to add splitting leverage. I can see where they may just bury themselves instead of helping to split the rounds. We shall see...

I've tried all kinds of splitters, and this is the best one I've ever used. The last one I bought was an attachment for your drill and was like a big screw that was supposed to split wood. All it did was burrow the screw into the wood and lock up my drill. But this thing is very heavy and durable. If you have a good sledgehammer, you can split just about any kind of wood, I don't care how hard the wood is. I highly recommend this. It is tough enough to split big logs and sharp and fine enough to split kindling for your fireplace or smoker. I hit this thing with the sledgehammer, even off-center sometimes, and it didn't even make a dent. This thing is tough! ... show more

As a frequent camper in National parks, this came in very handy to split fallen logs. Be sure to wear eye protection of course, as the paint chips fly out everywhere. I use mine with a 3 lbs hammer.
