  • Perfect for chopping bbq wood chunks
Bought this to chop 8” bbq wood chunks into smaller sizes for grilling. Works as advertised.

  • Exceeded my expectations
I bought this kindling splitter for camping and really wasn't sure what to expect. Much to my surprise, it works better than expected. I didn't use the included screws to mount it to anything. Just put it on the ground and let gravity (and a small sledge hammer, or blunt side of a hatchet do all of the work. Spliting a 6 - 8 inch wide log into 1"x1" (approximately) kindling pieces is very quick. My wife commented that this seems to be safer than my old method (using the blunt side of a hatchet and small wedge, hitting from the top) which wasn't nearly as fast as using this. I bought this when it was on sale ($25.99, I think) which was well worth it for that price. The full price of $79.99 seems a bit steep. But it on sale and you won't be disappointed (I wasn't anyway). ... show more

  • Works nicely as a kindling splitter!
You'll need to mount this onto something else to make it useable. I used 4 x 4 scraps and fabricated a base for it. As other reviews mention, yes, it's a bit tricky to get to the screw holes, but if you use a longer driver attachment, it will work. It arrives quite sharp. I've probably made 1/4 of a face cord of kindling with it so far, and it's held up fairly well. There are a few chips in the blade at this point, but that's to be expected with oak and maple. I think I can just give it a quick filing or sharpening with a rotary tool at some point. You'll need some sort of hammer with this. I just got a cheapy one pound hammer at Harbor Freight, and I should have gotten something just a bit heftier. Something like a blacksmith 2lb hammer would probably be ideal. Watch your shins using this, though! Sometimes the kindling pieces will go flying, so at least wear long pants if not some additional shin/foot protection. ... show more

  • Works extremely well and easy to sharpen.
Makes quick work of medium large firewood and makes splitting kindling a breeze. Because it's iron it does dull or chip but a few minutes work with a file puts it back into working order. I wanted mine portable so I made a little rig out of scrap 2x4's I had and works great.

  • Simple effective and built well
Very useful tool. You can split logs with it but it will be work, this is best for turning firewood that has already been split into kindling. Take it camping and you’ll be glad you did, the only tricky part is finding a log to screw it to. You want a log that is wide enough and has a flat bottom so it won’t fall over. Be careful screwing it in place because you’ll be working towards a very sharp edge, pre drill the holes and use a ratchet with a screw driver bit so you’ll be off to the side of the edge. It’ll take a little longer but it’s easier than a screw driver and you won’t have to worry about cutting yourself. ... show more

... show more

  • BROKEN CUTTING EDGE
Edge broke on first use. Picture shows edge after one 6 inch diameter by 8 inch pine log was split four times. No nails or metal in wood or branch knolls just clean pine log. I'm not going to try to re-sharpen it as it is obvious the steel is no good. I'll try to return it but the window has passsed. This splitter is totally useless and I thought I was purchasing an upper end tool. It's probably destined for the scrap yard. What a waste of money ... show more
