Okay after reading the 1☆ reviews I figured out most of them were just people not being very bright. First off this is NOT Intended for logs. Period. It is for turning small peices of split wood into kindling, again NOT FOR SPLITTING LOGS. It's well made, it's sharp, it also came with a duel sided sharpening stone. My only complaint is that I wish it were a bit taller and wider. It definitely needs to be screwed down to something heavy and solid, but of course that's a no Brainer. There is a slight learning curve with it, i.e. don't try to split something in half. Split small bits off a little at a time, and use your shorter pieces of wood with it. Again contrary to other reviewers who obviously didn't read the description it is not for splitting logs, and make sure to screw it down to a solid heavy object. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I went with this because it didn’t have a ring that limits the size of wood that can be split. It is great for kindling and the next size up of logs. I have split rather large pieces of wood with it. Very sturdy. The only issues I have had is if the logs are longer than 16 inches they can get stuck on my base log if the wood didn’t already fully split (rare). The fix would be if the wedge was taller or the flare was wider but overall I really like it and it makes quick work of kindling. I use traditional axe for kindling too but this is safer for the kids to use. ... show more

    • Doesn't split easily
I could not split a 'standard' 16" quartered log into smaller kindling with this tool. I think the cutting edge was too dull. Just wouldn't split. Tried a few times with no luck. Seems well-made, but not sharp enough to split easily. I gave up after a few minutes working on the same log.

Works great for kindling, far safer than wildly swinging a hatchet. We attached to a piece of 2x8 so is easy to transport to campsites. One slight design flaw is that the base is small such that it was difficult to position a screwdriver vertically. The "spreader" wings on top get in the way so that you either need a very long screwdriver shaft or have to install the screws at an angle. Also, the cap doesn't fit securely but can be secured with a couple of rubber bands. Otherwise, great product at a nice price. ... show more

One of the WORST purchases of my life. I bought this to split some wood that was too big for my little wood bunting. It is still too big. I figured it was because I wasn’t strong enough. I had my grandson goout and he couldnt split the wood either. We are not talking about whole logs, but wood that was already split but not small enough. ... show more
