Works great for kindling, far safer than wildly swinging a hatchet. We attached to a piece of 2x8 so is easy to transport to campsites. One slight design flaw is that the base is small such that it was difficult to position a screwdriver vertically. The "spreader" wings on top get in the way so that you either need a very long screwdriver shaft or have to install the screws at an angle. I purchased this item because I have some small wood to cut. I'm giving the review I'm giving because I purchased a new product and received a broken used product. I shared photos to verify. You can even see pieces of wood left on the blade from the first owner. You can see where this item was used as there are dirt streaks across it. Also, the covering was cracked. It was packaged to appear new. I had to go through the trouble and inconvenience of returning the product and driving to a return location just to amend the issue. I make purchases online for the purpose of avoiding the need to physically go somewhere. So, check your product when it arrives to ensure it's really new. I did receive a replacement and it was in new condition, but that never should have happened to begin with. ... show more

Tried several logs. Some were already split just to see if I could get this thing to split anything at all. Another splitter usually splits these logs after a couple of whacks, but the opening was too small for larger logs. I set up guides so I could position the log right on top of the "Speed Force" . Hitting the log with and axe and sledgehammer - the axe split it, but the Speed Force barley made a mark on the other side. Tried small and large pieces, this thing split nothing.
